  1. No, there are some here in Atlanta and, therefore, I presume, elsewhere as well. Agree on the annoyance of registration to read Dallas Morning News site .. as the person who does the SE Forum Digests weekly, I have had to register at some 10-15 sites to have proper access ... And I know it is their property and they can opt for any dress code they choose .. rather, I wanted some input on the wisdom of making "requirements" on potential customers ...
  2. might this be the thread to which you refer? When you say, bleachboy, that " It remains to be seen if the food will stay good" are you inferring that the food supercedes the dress code issues?
  3. Some thoughts/questions having read this thread: (1) are you reluctant to stop your museum enjoyment and to heed the call of nature (not that call!!) and seek out a more formal meal within the museum itself during lunch or dinner? (2) are you willing to settle on eating just a quick bite at a museum snack bar, or the like, so as not to waste precious visiting time? (3) are you so intent on the dining that you will leave the museum and seek out dining within the environs or the immediate neighborhood?
  4. any of these look promising??
  5. recent thread on the same topic: Knoxville dining You might want to start by looking over the many suggestions provided in this thread!
  6. story from the Telegraph UK A related story on honey has appeared only today .. it appears that there are not enough queen bees around nowadays ... This may only partially explain why the cost of honey has been rising ...
  7. With the deadline coming up shortly (August 20), this contest still looks like something well worth entering, you folks who love grilled cheese .. and you know who you are! Would love to see one of us from eGullet be a winner in any of the categories! and then $10,000 ain't half bad either .... the contest rules and information entry form here!!
  8. the article This ought to elicit all manner of opinions, both pro and con ... but probably very few indifferent ... so, how do you feel about what Houston's has done with their new policy? Will others follow suit (poor choice of word, of course!! )? Or will the dining public be so affronted by the temerity, the chutzpah, of this chain, that they will rebel and do the exact opposite, in effect saying, "wear whatever you wish but come to eat here!" ??
  9. And now they are in Chapter 11 .... as the comedian Gilbert Gottfried says in one of his routines, "You happy now??" the guilt, oy! He goes on to tell how his parents loaded a ton of guilt on him with that phrase ... ie. "You happy now that you caused World War II, you happy?" "You, the Titanic sunk, you happy now??" .. well, considerably funnier when it comes out of his mouth .. with that voice ...
  10. nessa, I think I need a cigarette to cool down now! and I don't even smoke! GG (Graphic Gourmet)
  11. Typically all-Southern meal tonight: nothing particularly upscale or even earthshaking ... fried chicken ( a novelty since I rarely attempt this in the heat of Hotlanta summers!) red potato salad with scallions and multicolored pepper julienne strips coleslaw vinaigrette peach pie and parve "vanilla ice cream" downed with a local favorite Coke! Shabbat shalom, ya'll!
  12. from Fine Living Magazine the article
  13. Perhaps you may have missed my initial foray (in public anyway ...) into sensual food writing ... enter only if you are 18 years of age or older .. which comes with the disclaimer that my writing carries a mature readers only warning ... And I have just accepted a position with eGullet, this very day, which I know will require me to use much more discretion in my posting ... although I have been known to sneak in a bit of bawdy humor, albeit sub rosa (whoever she is!)
  14. article from USA Today This article has a number of great Greek restaurants right here in the United States as well as references to our own Paula Wolfert .. do take a look ...
  15. If you need it, then I got it, FG: This is my tried and true carrot cake with maple cream cheese icing straight from Epicurious (as usual): here
  16. Well organized by an anal retentive personality with an OCD ... always prepared for anything .... bring a complete first aid kit to the rendezvous ... waivers to be signed .... micromanage your affair, anyone??
  17. Thanks, FunJohnny .. I just read this and it looks quite lovely: .The view alone must be delightful on a clear day!
  18. this is more interesting by far than McDonald's ... 55 tons of waste refers to food scraps and disposable plates, etc., I am assuming ...
  19. The National Gallery of Art: dining possibilities I have to admit that this looks very lovely and varied for visitors ...
  20. Hey, I never promised you a rosegarden, fella! But for free? Take it and dig into the deepest recesses of your pyche .. told you it was a thrifty ersatz personality quiz ...
  21. Quiz is here .. of course... Why not? You already took: the condiment quiz, which was a big hit! and the carb quiz from CNN, a real disaster everyone hated with a passion! the which Food Network personality are you most like? everyone really went for that one! so now there is the very short, probably not too revealing "Salad Dressing Quiz" ... go for it .. seven short questions and each one will reveal something as you click on an answer ...
  22. a collection of NYC museum food reviews .. some even interesting! Museum of Natural History cafes Anyone confirm these as being worthwhile?
  23. Will do a little research . .. in the meantime, spend time on youthful peppy workouts, probably using wine bottles (full) to tighten those abs .. watch Jamie and try to match his wacky enthusiasm ... yeah, I think this just might work out well for you, Katie!!
  24. and, presumably, have more than just a pretty face and a lot of pep? maybe even some idea about wines? asking too much? A bubbly Rachel Ray of wines?? (not the best choice of adjectives, I suppose...) scroll down to read the second story on this ...
  25. Ah yes, galleygirl, now the truth emerges ... unvarnished and realistic .. thank you for filling in the "holes" in the Boston Herald story ... that is precisely why I posted it here .. from eG, one gets a more "complete" picture ..
