Now October! Listen for this remarkable NPR series!! the link again
-
maybe the nomination was based upon the name of the owner???
-
The choices from Atlanta were less than thrilling as well. I can't understand why some of the new up and coming places were not nominated. The few they chose show that this "competition" is not particularly useful because it omits so many deserving candidates.

We here in Atlanta are awaiting the opening of Oceanaire with, God forgive me, baited breath! It appears that they have a great deal to offer and we are somewhat "landlocked" in the heart of Georgia ... Think they have sold the petrale souls for this great business move?

Cappiello Cheeses are good ... or so I have heard ...
-
Definitely thank you, Rebecca, for this recipe and plan to make it this weekend for guests!
-
Jason, How about that one you had a thread about, King Yum? I missed it on the list but that was just a quick look ...
-
Amen, Hal, and thank you for digging through the lengthy text!
-
A very cursory look at the list of nominees seems to have elicited some unusual choices .. maybe they simply pulled names from phone books? Seattle Chinese Top !00 thread equally baffling!
-
Satiation is the number one problem in these _______of the Month Clubs .. just be happy that you don't receive a Prune of the Month Club .... now that could be quite tedious!
-
the article the nominees Did your old standbys make the list? Waiting to see which ones win? I will bet money on Blue Ginger being in the top 10 ... Think the results will be read onstage by Martin Yan? and come in individual fortune cookies?? Is this going to be a good thing for Jason, who enjoys this genre of cuisine? Stay tuned for results .. Price Waterhouse knows more than we do at this point ...

I want to add my congratulations to the above comments from Varmint and Suzanne! As I compile my weekly SE Forum Digests each week, one of the online sources I read with enthusiasm and great pleasure is The Charlotte Observer! And, of course, it is that publication which features Kathleen Purvis ... If you don't know some of the background on this writer, please look at this link and note with the same pleasure which I do that she believes in a motto quite similar to my own: "If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right." Should you have some time available in your daily schedule, here are several of her most recent columns as well: right here Again, Kathleen, many thanks for your contributions to the world of food journalism!

So, even though it is still only mid-October, it seems that it is never too early to create a wish list in one's mind of some things which would make your life even more enjoyable. The only caveat here would be that it should be food-related! If I might be so bold, I would wish for a set of Wusthof knives for my kitchen, a lifetime subscription to Gastronomica, a "coupon book" for repeated visits to The French Laundry, and a Caviar of the Month Club (see the thread on _____of the Month Clubs). What are your food holiday wishes and dreams? Are any of the actually achievable? When does reality replace fantasy?? Are wish lists only for dreamers? Can they be mailed anonymously/surreptitiously to spouses/family/business associates?

Slam dunk yet again, andiesenji! This is terrific and is precisely what I needed to get the requisite gifts for the upcoming season!
-
and if she wears her traditional chef's toque, will she be the "Cat in the Hat"?
-
With this being a very premature, pre-holiday gift time, I often think about what I will be buying for my friends during this festive season ... which, naturally, leads me to the topic at hand: Food Gift of the Month Club gifts... everyone knows about the Harry & David gifts ... then there are Cheese and Coffee/Tea and other type gifts ... Do you give them because: * it is the gift that "keeps on giving"? * it is so simple to order online? * the choices are so varied? * the quality of the monthly offering is uniformly appealing? And, in terms of being the receiver, do you enjoy getting a monthly food related gift? Is a magazine subscription better? What kind of _______ of the Month Club gift would you optimally love to receive? I would enjoy a champagne and/or caviar of the month gift ...

Heart of the Bible Belt here in Atlanta and no Sunday sales still in effect ... I don't see that situation changing any time soon!

Please, Bob, we are a most appreciative group when tempted by such enticing fare! GG (Groveling Gourmet) just until we get something definitive from Bob ... -
I am delirious with those shellfish closeups and those of you and your wife enjoying them with such pure pleasure! What memories you must have from this trip! Very envious!

Not certain what John Talbott ate but on a visit to O'mei last month, I had some divine items: red oil dumplings with rice-smoked chicken wings, a superbly light and sweet chinese chicken salad, and their apricot almond chicken were all amazingly tasty! I have been going there on my trips for several years and am never disappointed.

are you implying, Bux, that talent sometimes takes a back seat to "exterior" qualities in some chefs? Style over substance? I rather enjoy Batali's rosy and angelic visage .. but then I am of the female persuasion ... those orange clogs are sooooo hot!

What's so good about the Southeast?

When I think about where Greg Wilson started this thread, and how it has grown and blossomed, I have to say that his primary objective has been fulfilled .... the introduction Thanks again, Greg, for putting so much into this topic and making it, as you so correctly note, an opportunity for learning!
