Wine bars in Atlanta?

Michael M

Recommended Posts

I'm visiting my brother in February and am looking for places with an interesting wine selection, knowledgable staff and great food. Examples include Tria in Philly, Bin 36 in Chicago or maybe the bar area of Otto in NYC.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Well, since you're willing to come into town I'd probably go to Woodfire Grill. Very nice food using lots of locally sourced produce and meat/dairy, cozy ambience (what with the wood-fired grill and all) and great wines. Sunday night is half price for bottles, a particularly excellent deal. The wine steward (or director or whatever) is Greg Koetting, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Talk to him if you get a chance, as he's very into the subject.

Can you pee in the ocean?

My personal favorite is ENO. It's on Peachtree Street a couple of blocks North of the Fox Theatre. I've always been impressed by their selection, and their night bartender (whose name escapes me at the moment - sorry) is very friendly and really knows his wine. Their food is pretty good also.

Best deal: Monday nights at d'Vine in Dunwoody. $12 for all you can drink in a nice atmosphere with large bar. Appetizers...stick with the cheese.

I really ike Eno...especially when the weather is nice and I can sit outside on Peachtree. Great selection too. Appetizers are solid.

I'm not a Grape fan, but they are all over town and have a decent selection.

Krog Bar...hip.

Vinocity...not bad...a bit small.

Vine...a bit dark, not a great ambiance.

Palette...their selection doesn't do it for me.

Watershed is a restaurant, but I have always enjoyed their wine bar...both selection, ambiance and a prelude to an upscale southern dinner. Woodfire Grill...similar thoughts.

d'Vine is outside perimter, Grape has locations inside and outside perimter and all others are inside.
