Rosie, you do have a mean streak and a good memory.

No

Yes

We have been twice in the last month and were not asked to leave the tip in cash. As I understand it from Rebecca herself it was only a suggestion (which I never agreed with) and you can leave your tip, if you wish to do so, on your cc, as I have always done.

We went to Rebecca's this weekend after not having gone there for years. My memory was that it was pretty good, but this meal was really off the charts bad from start to finish. appetizer of fried yucca, which tasted like it was fried earlier and then reheated (i know my yucca). This was a bad sign and my husband joked that he had an awful feeling about our entrees, but we were optimistic. He had the roast pork, I had the grapefruit glazed salmon. The pork was okay, the salmon was flavorless and the fruit salsa it came with was large chunks of soggy pineapple and papaya. Neither of us finished either dish. The worst part was the side order of coconut mashed yams, which obviously had something off about it, I took a forkful, alerted the waitress and asked to have rice instead. She went to the kitchen and came back and told us there was no rice left (it was towards the end of their night). And then the bill came. It was painful to pay 25-28 dollars each for such bad entrees and 9 dollars for the yucca.

I work in Union City and have some of the most amazing cuban resturants nearby at less than a third of the cost of rebecca's. It is a pretty and very pleasant atmosphere, but it was a very bad meal. Maybe an off night? i won't be going back to find out.

We went years ago..when it was all the rage. We were shocked by the level of the food (typical Cuban..nothing special) and the prices they were asking..also the tip in cash issue. Both my friend and I agreed that the food in any typical Cuban cafeteria on Bergenline Ave. was equatable. The atmosphere certainly isn't, but the food is. I would go to La Isla in Hoboken for Cuban hands down.

I went to La Isla recently and it was good, but you are right, not as good as it used to be. On Bergenline, no where imparticular. We used to get takeout from the cafeteria around the corner kind of thing, and in our opinion, as good as Rebecca's. Perhaps someone else has a favorite as I don't get around there much anymore.

La Gran Via on Bergenline ave b/w 39 & 40th, closer to 39th and on the right hand side as you are walking down bergenline. The sign has a lobster on it. The front of the restaurant has a counter and small tables, the back has a pretty nice dining room. Top picks there are: mofungo, homemade and delcious and garlicky, ropa vieja (shredded beef), picadillo with tasty green olives in it, the shrimp with garlic... Everything I've ever had there is quite good. The dishes come with your choice of rice (white or dirty) and beans (black or red) And yummy hot fresh tostones. and you will love the bill when it comes.
