I was never a big fan of matzoh until I had some of the artisanal stuff at the home of one of Donna's relatives. This matzoh had the same irresistible char that I associate with fine pizza from a coal-burning oven. I never found out where the matzoh came from. Does anyone have a source in NYC?

It sounds like shmurah matzo which can either be machine or hand made. You can find it in kosher food markets or Judaica stores.

Sorry I can't help further, but we get ours through the synagogue.

Joe, I was doing the final leg of my Passover shopping yesterday at the Kosher Marketplace (Broadway btw. 90th & 91st) and they were selling boxes of the Shmura Matzo you're looking for. It's high up on a shelf, so it's easy to miss.

I think the kosher shops likely are open only today and tomorrow (until sundown), and then Sunday and possibly Monday before closing down for the duration of Passover, so your window for getting a fix is kind of brief.

Kosher Marketplace will close tonight at 9:00. Friday they close at either 2 or 3 but the place will be a madhouse!!

They'll be open thursday and friday next week for those are too lazy to cook (but, once again it will be a madhouse).

Great. Thanks Kara.

Ah, so they won't be open on Sunday. OK. I'll swing by tonight and brave the madhouse. Thanks again Blovi.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. They'll be open sunday and monday (although they'll close early on monday). I'm not sure of the hours though. From experience though, your best bet is to go about 8:30 tonight. The store should be reasonable by then.
