Not so distant future eG Q&A guest Gary Regan fills us in on some of the glorious wonders of Rum. :smile:

Rum is an incredibly versatile base for cocktails and mixed drinks, but unfortunately many bartenders simply add three to five different fruit juices to a tot or three of Caribbean comfort, and declare the drink a masterpiece. Worse still is that many of these ill-conceived potions can be quite palatable ­ it's hard to go wrong ­ so they seldom get sent back to the bar. But the rum gets lost in the mix ­ its flavors are masked, its nuances lost. These are happy-go-lucky drinks, and there's a place for them in this world, but there's no place for them at Cocktails in the Country.
