Dee and I stopped in at Krogh's recently. Krogh's is a bar -restaurant located in the community of Lake Mohawk, just south of Sparta off NJ 181.

Pleasant place, good, home brewed beer. We split a small Mexican pizza (lots of queso, cilantro, chopped sausage, a little greasy). I enjoyed it. Dee had their seasonal Pilsner, light and thirst quenching. Reminded me of the old Piels beer. I had their red ale, OK, had an aftertaste which was a little sweet for me, but fine.

Folks around us ordered onion rings, steaks, sandwiches, etc. Super strong smoke-eater, you could actually see the cigarette smoke in the bar drifting up and out. Even though people were smoking ten feet away, you'd never know it.

One negative, the rest rooms were beyond foul. Very dirty, flush unit didn't work on one urinal, etc.

The Bistro on the Plaza (3 stars in the Ledger) is at the other end of the Plaza, and there's a place called Arthur's Bistro in the center. Based on the cars parked on the plaza, and the prices of real estate in the immediate area, it looks like there's money arond the lake.

Apparently it's easier still to dictate the conversation and in effect, kill the conversation.

Been to The Bistro on the Plaza and it was worth a return visit but just haven't gotten there. Zoes By The Lake in Sparta is excellent.

I like Krogh's -- had a mushroom/muenster burger & a couple of oatmeal stouts. I think I had the red ale once too when they were out of stout & I wasn't in love with it either, but I don't know why I keep letting bartenders talk me into the red ale since I've never really liked any of them.

The burger was fantastic. There was almost no seasoning to the patty at all but the meat was so good & fresh that I didn't rush for the salt shaker. The mushrooms were very lightly sauteed, still firm & not greasy at all. All in all, it was a burger that tasted good & didn't leave me feeling gluttonous, even though it was pretty huge. I felt like I'd had brown rice & salad & went for a nice hike.

Krogh's -- the home of the no-guilt burger.

glad you made it up to the northcountry...

yeah, there's money up there since you are sitting almost on Lake Mohawk.

krogh's makes an outrageous bacon and blue cheese burger. john likes their stouts anytime of the year - i like the red or if there is a wheat brewed i'll take that.

arthur's is ok - just don't order a hambuirger on a busy night if someone else in the party orders steak. your order tends to end up under the heat lamp.

plaza bistro has had about half it's regualr menu changed up since the last time rosie ate there. and there is a new place that opened up down toward the clubhouse. about 8 seats - haven't gotten to it yet but when i do will post.

did you get a chance to stroll the boardwalk after you ate?
