  1. kroghs is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! from the food, service, and atmosphere, you just can't beat it!
  2. tommy- thanks for the input...funny you should mention that, we are in the process of changing bread companies for that reason. please, let me know what you think. hope to see you soon!
  3. rosie and tommy- to answer you both in one post: 1. sure, rosie, if you come up with a burger, we will put it on as a special! 2. tommy, i married into the family. gaffer's has been my husband's family's place since 1976. i have also been working there during the day behind the bar and at night helping out.
  4. Double ouch!!! sorry to hear about two unpleasant experiences, but have to say that this is the first time that i have ever heard something like that happening at gaff's...usually the customers tell me how nice the staff is! i would think that those incidents were rare and something that would never happen again. especailly now that it's brought to attention. hope you can try to give it another shot. about the burger club card and its use-its one card per person, and eating as many in one sitting is entirely up to you!!! rosie, could you tell me more about what an "egullet burger" would look like?
  5. just to put the word out there-we're doing a few new things at gaffer's...first of all, i would like to put the word out that we are going to begin offering a "burger club" card, which means, once you obtain the card (from any server), and once you eat 10 burgers, the next one is free! also, just to mention that thursdays have been popular recently due to the "yuengs and wings" promotion...$2 wings and $2 pints of yuengling!!! wednesday is also homemade bass ale battered homemade fish and chips night!!! perhaps, i can talk them into an egullet membership special!?!?!?!?!
  6. at gaffer's, they have what they call, "yuengs and wings" on thursday nights at the bar. it's $2 pints of yuengling lager and $2 dozen wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. tinga's is awesome! they just opened another location in millburn on millburn ave.
  8. thanks for all the suggestions! someone also mentioned bacari grill in washington twsp-any thoughts on this place?
  9. thanks! having just finished my master's exam, i can REALLY look forward the big day! thanks for all the suggestions
  10. oops! failed to mention that it will be on a friday.
  11. looking for suggestions for a place to bring the family for lunch after a graduation cermony. there will be aprox. 12 of us and depending where we travel to, it should be around noon. any suggestions for places between continental arena and montlcair?
  12. can anyone offer directions to this hot dog haven?
  13. epernay is one of my new favorate places! we were first there for new years eve and are planning on returning shortly! it is one of those places that when you first dine there you almost have to ask yourself why you waited so long to go!
  14. went to leone's in montclair for a quick bite and enjoyed both of our pasta dishes. what struck me funny is when we paid for our bill with a credit card, the server said nothing, brought the bill back for us to sign and then informed us that she had xx out where the tip would be written in and said that it is policy there to accept cash tip only if at all possible. (btw, we wrote in the tip anyway). to my husband and i, this was not only strange, but in poor taste to 1) not post a sign somewhere that states this "rule" or 2)have the server tell us this "rule" when she took our card as payment. -is this a known policy that i just have not come into contact elsewhere?
  15. i agree with the problem of people unfamiliar with the dining room making the distinction between the dining room and other "hotel restaurants." however, we recently were there for our anniversary and had one of the best meals ever! top shelf for every aspect of dining. if you are looking to impress not so much with food but with a great view of nyc, go with the highlawn; only problem being that you have no idea if the weather will cooperate with your plans.
  16. i would love to visit the following in 2003: serenade- chatham the ryland inn- whitehouse tim schafer's-morristown jocelyne's-maplewood
  17. our new years eve dinner at epernay could not be any better! enjoyed each and every thing! service was excellent as well. looking forward to returning in the near future.
  18. we're going to epernay for dinner. will give a report on the dinner! it will be our first visit to epernay and we are looking forword to it! happy new years to all!
  19. usually i hit thai chef or tuptim-both places are good except i have always felt that thai chef rushes people in and out. other places i have been wanting to try are sirin and mie thai. any other suggestions?
  20. went to brookside thai for dinner on friday. dinner was okay, not great though. i had the chicken satay for an app, which was good. my entree was shrimp with a garlic cilantro sauce that was listed as spicy on the menu, but as it turned out it was more garlic than anything; very little taste of cilantro and not spicy at all. my husband ordered a dish from the noodles section, which was tasty except for the fact that the noodles were unidentifiable! however, it was very inexpensive, so i really cannot complain. it is just that i would not go out of my way to return to this place when there are other places closer.
  21. enjoyed dinner at 28 on saturday. service was excellent. food was real good, not great, but would definetly return. for an app i had the crabmeat ragout and entree was the skirt steak, which was good although, a tad too much taste of marinade. did not have dessert. overall, a pleasant dining experience.
  22. i have seen various types of valrhona at whole foods in montclair.
  23. funny you should ask about twentyeight, we just made reservations last night for saturday. this will be our first time there and i will be sure to give a report.
  24. tinga's in upper montclair is one of the best mexican places around. they have a california-tex mex twist to their food. they only use healthy cooking methods (grilling and steaming, not frying) which does not not sacrifice the flavor. its byo, take out and delivery. finally, to have good mexican food in town!
