Well after my thread about £2 lobsters from Lidl last year. Aldi have put their frozen Canadian Lobsters down to £2.99 (from £4.99) in my local store. My wife bought four of them and we shall give them a try over the weekend and report back.

Don't get me wrong I'm not expecting fireworks but for the money they are most certainly a bargain.

Please check your local store for this offer, before making a special journey, as they may not be available in all stores.

Bought a couple of these last year at £5 each. They were fine in a curry or laksa. Not a lot of flavour, but the only lobster I'm going to buy. Not paying the £20+/kg from the fishmonger. For £3 they're an alternative to frozen prawns.

Ok, so the Lobsters. We tried two which were not bad. Not quite as good as the ones from Lidl, from a taste point of view.

We added some flavoursome baby new potatoes, a dollop of mayo, and plenty of garlic butter to what turned out to be a couple of decent homemade plates of food.

A simple salad rounded things off. Oh and some decent bread. (no photo)

Will be making the Lobster Bisque later on.

And now Lidl, while sticking to their £5.99 price point, have made them BOGOF (so just 1/2p each more than Aldi).

Thanks for the heads up. Will see if any are available locally.

I did actually get around to making a Lobster Bisque and by golly it was tasty. I smashed the shells to smithereens to get maximum flavour into it. Great way to extract value from a waste product but an awful lot of work involved really.

Just proves when looking at menus that even dishes using very cheap ingredients have hidden costs once you factor in the chefs time and other overheads

Sorry its not the best of photos, it tasted a whole lot better than it looks.
