  1. From my morning BookBub email: (Note: some of these books were on sale before and are on sale again) James Beard's "Theory and Practice of Good Cooking" Kindle Edition $1.99US Paul Hollywood's "Pies and Puds" Kindle Edition $3.82US Paul Hollywood's "How to Bake" Kindle Edition $3.82US "Great British Bake Off - Perfect Cakes & Bakes To Make At Home" Kindle Edition $2.39US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  2. Two to add: Madhur Jaffrey's "World Vegetarian: More Than 650 Meatless Recipes from Around the World" Kindle Edition $2.99US This author has/had a Food TV show: Amy Thielen's "The New Midwestern Table: 200 Heartland Recipes" Kindle Edition $1.99US edited to add the usual disclaimer that I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  3. Isn't that interesting? I get the higher price now, too. When it had the cheaper price, it said it was a savings of 61%...quite a difference than what it is now. If you scroll far down the page, there's a comparison chart between this pan and other similar pans and under "Material Type" for this pan it states "steel", which is obviously incorrect since up higher on the page in the immediate item description it's called "Hard-anodized aluminum construction". Only the handles are made of steel. An Amazon error, obviously. edited to add it was an Amazon Daily Deal. I guess there are time limits to their deals.
  4. My apologies. I didn't realize it made a difference in "regular" items. I know it makes a difference with Kindle cookbooks. My standard caveat: Yes, I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  5. Unless it's a trick of the lighting, it looks like they need someone to teach them how to properly hard boil an egg.
  6. Calphalon on Amazon: "Calphalon 1932442 Classic Nonstick All Purpose Pan with Cover, 12-Inch, Grey" $27.50US See the Q & A down by the reviews...oddly, they say the pan can't be used on induction stoves even though it's supposed to be a steel pan. It's large and deep and non-stick.
  7. The article: "Arby's Is Bringing Back Its Venison Sandwich" And this year they're adding elk. Added emphasis is mine:
  8. "You Won't Believe What McDonald's Is Serving Now" Just looking at the picture accompanying the article gives me the heebie-jeebies. That ain't meat.
  9. Regarding the new flavor contest, a winner has been declared: "Crispy Taco Wins Lay’s 'Do Us a Flavor' Contest"
  10. Your latest video (click) is very nice! It's very succinct and you've made putting together the cake look easy. It's very encouraging. The Torta Mantovana looks delicious. I followed your link to your web site for the recipe. The picture of the finished cake looks tempting...all I would need is a nice cup of coffee! Thanks again for making the video.
  11. Not quite bargain basement prices but price drops nonetheless... Jean-Georges Vongerichten's "Home Cooking with Jean-Georges: My Favorite Simple Recipes" Kindle Edition $4.99US Giada De Laurentiis' "Everyday Italian: 125 Simple and Delicious Recipes" Kindle Edition $4.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  12. Serendipity! Congratulations on finding what you needed! Thanks for posting the pictures of your trip/adventure.
  13. Wow. Now this is what I'm talking about! Dorie Greenspan's "Baking: From My Home to Yours" Kindle Edition $3.99US I am a US Prime member and your price may vary. Edited to add: Unbelievable...I just stumbled across another classic...while not a rock-bottom deal, still it's quite good. Peter Reinhart's "The Bread Baker's Apprentice: Mastering the Art of Extraordinary Bread" Kindle Edition $4.99US
  14. I'm not too thrilled with what I've found so far: This is her sequel cookbook- Joanne Chang's "Flour, Too: Indispensable Recipes for the Cafe's Most Loved Sweets & Savories" Kindle Edition $2.99US From Food TV fame - Anne Burrell's "Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire & Empower" Kindle Edition $1.99US And an offal/meat-centric cookbook from the chef of Portalnd's Le Pigeon - Gabriel Rucker's "Le Pigeon: Cooking at the Dirty Bird" Kindle Edition $2.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  15. In regards to the three new flavors I previously mentioned... I re-tried the flavors. I can't really review the Fried Green Tomatoes Flavored Chips as I have led a deprived life and have never tasted a fried green tomato. Shocking, isn't it? The Everything Bagel Chips still didn't have much flavor, IMHO. I think part of the gimmick here is that some of the chips have poppy seeds on them. Other than that, I can't figure out the draw of this chip flavor. The Crispy Taco flavored chips have the most flavor, I believe. I can definitely taste cumin and chile powder...though It tastes more like enchilada sauce than a crispy taco.
  16. Saw this deal this morning on TechBargains.com: Instant Pot DUO60 6 Qt 7-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Sauté, Yogurt Maker and Warmer $69.99US
  17. A diet book, I guess: Michael Pollan's "Food Rules: An Eater's Manual" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and your price may vary.
  18. At every family holiday get-together my mom uses a thermal bowl to keep her mashed potatoes warm. It looks something like this (click). Except her bowl is quite large. It has the stainless steel interior and the lid has a sort of gasket to it. It does the job.
  19. I stumbled across a new-to-me brand of Worcestershire Sauce made by Colgin. It was hickory smoked flavored. I never added a lot of it to anything, but it did have a nice smokiness to it. In regards to chili, I think Worcestershire Sauce would add a little "umami" to the chili, which is always a good thing in my book.
  20. This came in my BoobBub email this morning: Amy Traverso's "The Apple Lover's Cookbook" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see might vary.

    Pop Tarts

Resurrecting an ancient discussion to say I spotted a new flavor in my local Walmart: Pumpkin. Has anyone tried them? Are they part of the "pumpkin spice" bandwagon? Or are they just pumpkin? They also had Halloween-themed frosted Pop Tarts with orange icing in the shape of a carved pumpkin/scary face. I wasn't sure what the flavor was...chocolate probably. I all but gave up buying them in general because the Pop Tarts I bought at Walmart seemed like they had been tossed around in a football game. They were all broken and once they break, the filling "seeps" out, making the Pop Tart soft and gooey-ish. Meh.
  22. How to Ripen an Avocado (scroll down to just under the "5 Stages") Epicurious says the apple/banana trick in the bag with the avocados didn't work for them. Let us know if you try the bag trick...
  23. Yes. This. My mom made it almost every Sunday. We'd have it over toasted Wonder Bread. She would also sauté the pastrami in oleo and we'd use it to make pastrami sandwiches with mustard and pickles. Yes, it's probably not that good for you to eat, but it was quite cheap and my mom could feed all of us kids for very little money.
  24. Another great video. Two things: 1) I did see the slice of this finished cake on your web site and it looked delicious. I think you needed a close-up of this cake in your video, especially with the browned meringue. It might help "sell" the cake/video better to the public watching the video. 2) Your web site URL is misspelled on the YouTube page for this video. Down below where you post info about yourself and the other recipe videos, there's this line: For the full written recipe and more go to dolcedifranci.com Your web site's actual web address is https://www.dolcidifranci.com/ Note the "e" in the misspelled web address.. In all of your other videos, the hyperlink is fine. It's just this video that's different. Again, thank you for posting the video!
  25. @Shelby Will you be canning a lot of the pumpkins, or do you have food-related plans for them (like pumpkin-filled raviolis, etc)?
