  1. If you're going to use o/o as a hair conditioner, be prepared not to go out in public for a few days. It makes hair soft, but really, really flat until it all washes out. Been there, done that, got the greasies.
  2. Say...those are some great points. I (since I use olive oil almost exclusively for myself and my food) would NEVER have thought the obvious. That some people don't automatically buy olive oil, they use other oils, and they may very well consider it purely as medicine. Makes perfect sense, actually. Looking forward to hearing what Eckerd says, too.
  3. That's what I say in post one. Great little racket they have with their snake oil. I mean...olive oil.
  4. Ah groovy! The one in my store was in a clear bottle. And it didn't look half bad! edited my posts to spell Eckerd with a "d."
  5. Yes!! ARRRGGGH. And another for me: "CAR-mull" or "Car-MEL" for CAR-A-MEL. It has three syllables people, let's use them!
  6. But can anyone offer any comments on why Eckerd would package olive oil in this manner, in with the other drug products? If someone has been told by their gramma to use olive oil for an ear ache, would some people actually go to the drug store for it instead of the salad dressing aisle at the market? There's actually a small food section at Eckerd's Drugstore, and olive oil is there...small bottles of it.
  7. Went to Eckerd Drugs today, and lo and behold! What's nestled between the iodine, and the boric acid? A four-ounce bottle of olive oil! In a medicinal looking bottle with the Eckert name on it. For $4.29. So...I picked it up for a look. Ingredients: Olive Oil Directions: For use in salads and cooking. This may be a good little marketing gimic for Eckerd, eh? Doctor says "eat more olive oil, it's healthy!" So they package it like they would mineral oil or ipecac and get people paying about $5.00 for 4 ounces. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I thought I was so interesting/strange/amusing.
  8. Then they should call 'em pealegumes. For this thread...we'll call 'em nuts, OK?
  9. Faking that accent would be VERY hard, I GAR-UNN-TEEEE. Tallulah Bankhead (as herself) to Lucy Ricardo: "And by the way DAHLING...you do a LOUSY impersonation of me!" Lucy: "So do YOU!!"
  10. Hmmm? And while we're at it, what's your least favorite? My favorites are hazlenuts/filberts and almonds. Walnuts run closely behind. Least favorite..Brazil nuts. Greasy tasting. Not crazy about peanuts, but I do get a craving for them once a year or so.
  11. Where do we get this information from? Any source or just an opinion?
  12. He sure does! All those -ie's. I like 'A bit of the old foo', though. I use that one occasionally. Our lad's from Essex but uses a fake Cockney accent and manner known as "Mockney". Deeply offensive because it's just so bizarre and stagey. That's fascinating! I always found his accent to be "odd" and couldn't figure out why. The cheeky little monkey!
  13. Awaiting me at the Library are these videos from the Frug: The Polish Kitchen The Jewish Nosher The Spanish Kitchen Foods From Greece Another Frug-A-Thon tonight! Wheee!
  14. That does take some getting used to, but I think she's a sweetie. Her food often makes me cringe...but I like her as a person. Her wedding show made me a fan if I wasn't fully a fan before.
  15. I posted about his Turkish Coffee Grinder that he used for pepper...is that what you're referring to?
  16. I don't like the word "meal." "I had a meal last night." Sounds weird, and even.. unappetizing as in "prison meal" or something.
  17. Rachel Ray also says "goin' on.." constantly. And the way she says it: "I've got my chicken GOOOOO-EN AWNNNN...and I have this pan GOOOOO-EN AWNNNNN" is very annoying. Also, I hate food personification. They ALL seem to call food items "guys." "You chop these guys up and add them to these guys that are already cooked...."
  18. I'm pretty sure I have to edit all my posts now. I think I've said "garlicky" and "sammich."
  19. Hah...I adore Paula Dean, and at least she looks like she bathes regularly....which is nice when you're dealing with food. Oliver usually looks like he needs a flea dip. Can't stand his tongue thrusts, either.
  20. I agree with all of the above, and most likely what will be below me. I hate "yummy"...so why the hell do I say it all the time? It irks me when Sara Mouton says it because it's so childlike. I also dislike "Za" for "pizza" and...UGH...."Sketti" for "spaghetti." We is all gwown ups isn't we?
  21. I hardly ever ate breatfast before yesterday. But I am on a diet now... ...and I have to. So it's whole grain crackers and cottage cheese or an egg or two. Always have hot water with lemon, or tea with lemon. If it's hot outside, I do iced coffee. Welcome aboard!
  22. EXACTLY. Thanks for posting that fact.
  23. Martin Yan used to say "YUMMMMM!" after all his sentences too, but he seems to have out grown the habit and Puck's picked it up!
  24. He was part of my TV food experience long before TV Food network was born. So he's not my "hero" per se, but he's part of 80's pop culture for me. I watched his show because I liked his teaching methods, even though they were often slighly flawed. I see Jeff Smith as Cheflebrity and not a classically trained chef..but he's enjoyable, and I think that's all I need sometimes. The true teachers like Pepin, Child etc. know who they are and hopefully so do we.
  25. I watched his Colonial Christmas Show last night on video, and it was very enjoyable. He made a lot sweets like candied peels, Indian Pudding, etc. The dishes didn't seem to be coming out very well, but he was enjoying himself, as usual. He had a good rapport with the kids who were the co-hosts of this show.
