What's the deal? The 4-top waits for the next table just as the 2-top waited. No reservatons means 1st come 1st serve. Seating policies like this make for bad business in bad times. You're playing craps in a economy that doesn't allow for bad bets

That's would have been helpful. Yes you are correct. The only way they would be in the right would have been if it was a table of 6 and they broke it down for a duece and then a six walks in. If they don't take reservations and policy is on a 1st come, 1st served basis they should have given you the table immediately. As far as Monday's I was just pulling on the earlier joke that you can break chops on a Monday and switch tables.

Why think twice? wine list sucks.....attitude's worse. Why think a third time?

I'm afraid I'd have to agree with Holly. It's Fri and there is only 1 table open. Also it's seems the hostess(es) might be a little young and possibly confused. Did they seat you within the 15-20 minutes stated? If they did it's possible they save the 4-top for a table that was running late. The weather was pretty shitty tonight. Also take into account, how was dinner? If it's was good, convienent and service was good during dining maybe you let a little error slide by. And maybe go on Monday and switch tables 3 times.

Like your penmanship, taste in wines and politics. Welcome aboard.

Update based on my visit to Blue Smoke Love it!! Welcomed up my arrival and told the host that we had a reservation but would prefer to eat at the bar as The Open was on. He of course welcomed that as it opened a table in the dining room. Place was packed at 1pm, emptied at 2pm. Started with Rouge Dead guy ale, while the Sue stuck with her Amstel but tried the Rouge and liked it. That is why she'll be a Mrs soon. Started with the Rib sampler. Regular ribs, St louis & Texas. The Texas ribs rocked, the crust from the pit added such flavor I wanted more. St Louis were good, not great but had excellent flavor, need the extra BBG sauce, rubbed salt and BBQ tabasco. The regular ribs were also good but paled in comparision. Had the burger, MRare. Cooked perfectly. Haven't had a great burger like thet in years. The Pulled pork sandwich was like butter but flavorless. Even all the other accompinments couldn't add flavor. Just missed but would recommend it to someone trying pulled pork for the 1st time. Bartender was very friendly, great service. effed up and forgot to order the brisket but might try it in two weeks after we hit U.S.G.. Good lord, I must be turning into a Danny Meyer groupie. Lou

OK looks like a burger, rare. Brisket, will look at the options and the Ribs, Combo of St Louis, etc, etc. Root beer to start, Anchor Steam to continue. Macro, thanks for the up on the TV . Must get my golf. Tommy, know you're not a huge sports fan but I think you might have noticed Blind Date on the tube. Offers open for tomorrow if interested. We'll be at the bar most likely.

They tried to sign my up for this. It seems a restaurant gives 2 to 4 gift certificates a week to advertise on the site. It didn't suit what I do and declined. I thinjk this is more suited to place that need business during the week. The certificates were good for the weekend also which is why I declined.

I believe $24, but remember I don't buy it at $4.50 a bottle. That price is give to liquor stores based on a 10-20 case discount. My price on a 1 case deal is likely $7-$8 a bottle.

More than welcome. We made reservations for the dining room but I'm more inclined to eat the bar.

The vineyard is called Taurino. When I get back to work I'll check on the region.

Salice Salentino is a extrodinary good wine for the price. A matter of fact I have to take it off my list because customers found out how inexpensive it was at wine stores and stopped buying it.

Paul, You know I'd be up for that. The response I got from zagat@zagat.com was that I had to send a press kit. I guess their online poll doesn't hold water. They still send me their book for 2003/04. It was BBQ ing this weekend and was tempted to use it on the grill. Unbelievable.

Made reservations tomorrow at Blue Smoke for 1:00. Will report back.

Tommy, have you been? The thread is too long and my bed's calling for me.
-
Is there a TV in the bar? I might go on Thursday but I want to watch The US Open.

Have reservations for 7/3 at 2 pm and at Blue Smoke for 7pm. I saw on Opentable.com I could get in at Craft at 7pm. It's also restaurant week and $30.03 at Craft seems awfully tempting. What does everything think? Should I switch them?

Suzi, It was nice seeing you again. Of course I remembered you, we spent 2 hours eating steak sandwiches together at my 1st egullet gathering. How long did it take you at the DMV. Now for my TV preferences, Blind Date is great!!! With lunches being a little quiet during summer it certainly cheers up my staff watching Blind Date. Glad you liked the double creamy blue cheese. I'm off to Citarella on Thursday to pick up more and catch some US Open golf in the city. By the way, any suggestions from anyone would be appriciated. I need a TV and a decent bar. Food would be helpful also. Lou

I have heard for a couple of years that The Ryland was for sale. Out of my price range.

Lou, this is a very, very busy man. Dogs to meet. Dumpling lessons to give. Iron Chef reruns to review. I think you're expecting a lot from our guy Tommy. Mea culpa, mea culpa

Awe is a strong word but being you've dined with me before I appriciate the complement. I figure after you & Dee meeting me you'd figure I'm a bit intense. Take pride in what I do, and welcome constructive opinions. Go Devils!!!

Don't know. We had so much rain on sat, I didn't bother going on Sun. It was at the Sussex Campgrounds and figured it would be muddy. With 4 kids, it had disaster written all over it. I hope those that ventured had a great assortment of crawfish.
