Funny this is up. I tried to make it here today on my journey from Allendale PA towards home but it didn't come up on my GPS. It started raining and figured it best to get home. I love traveling and eating in places I haven't before as I have to actually research a area for good food. Lucky I have a business lunch at Gramercy Tavern tomorrow. Really don't miss the restaurant business any longer.

Well folks, now that I'm not in the F&B industry I feel I can offer a opinion that is somewhat unbias. The smoking ban has murdered the independant restaurant and small bar owner. I've been on the road the last 3 weeks and have been forced to eat in chain restaurants and while not to be critical about the food, ( that's a different story), the indie has been murdered by this law. People who dine at upscale indies alone generally smoke. I know. I witnessed this over 12 years. Smokers stay home and mostly dine corperately(sic) and will sneak outside to snag a smoke. Most Indies will be gone soon and the smoking law was the 1st government law to be enacted that is difficult to adapt to for Indies, while Chains will have no trouble with the trans-fat laws and whatever else the government deems healthly for us. P.S. I stopped smoking recently, I'll let you know after I get back from Dallas, Arkansas and Missouri, I have no clue if they have non-smoking laws.

Had a server that I couldn't stand and I wanted her to quit, so I went to Spencer's and bought one of those fake lottery tickets that paid $10,000. I had a different server put it in her checkbook while I waited in the bar. I made sure she got the 1st table and found the ticket. I had also put real ones in the other servers books. She scratched hers off and immediately started screaming. Staff is not allowed to use the house phones and she picked it up to call her husband. After "winning" she told me she quit and was leaving right away. The look on her face and she read the fine print that stated she could collect her prize at The North Pole was the best. I accepted her resignation.

While I didn't have steak here, the restaurant with 4 digits, something like 4710 in Mandalay Bay, the meat looked tp notch. I'd give it a look-see if you don't have a reservation.

Good for you supporting individually owned restaurants. I hope you enjoy both meals. I'll let you know how Per Se is, I'm hoping to dine there............in the near future. 2 for 1 as you're doing seems very sensible.

As of now AAG is still closed on Sundays. I have Giants season tickets, Sec 115. I'll be tailgating in section B4 at the north end of the bubble. Hanger steak fahitas, grilled Alaskian crab legs and Unbloody Mary's to start tomorrow as well as a fair dose of Edna Valey Chardonnay & Arygle Pinot Noir. Will arrive at 1:30. As far as a place you might try a small bar in Mine Hill called Fausto's. I'll try to post the address when I find it. GO BLUE!! With The Giants on Monday's 3 times we welcome all Giants fans to AAG.

How do I get a hip hop name like dbroc? As a restaurant owner, I've won a few awards from NJ Monthly but last year they screwed up through their checkers and awarded Allie's American Grill the best North Jersey restaurant after I had won it 6 years in a row. Allie's is a breakfast/brunch/lunch place. This was obvouisly a mistake and I never posted this as I didn't want to make look as if I was a bad sport. When NJ Monthly called me to see if I wanted to advertise with them, I declined. I had only run ads 3 months out of the year and only at 1/8 or 1/16th space so it's not like I was The Manor or Ram's Head Inn or whetever you would like to plug in. I'm a small guy running a small restaurant. I shouldn't have won this year. While still putting up good food, it's wasn't, due to circumstances, worthy of winning an award. After 12 years, I had hit a level that I need to improve on. I have had a email list that I ask my customers to vote for me in the past. This year I didn't. While my review finally after 12 years was published recently, I was not at the top of my game. I believe the fact that because of my non-promotion, AAG didn't make the list. If my heart was into self-promotion, it would have been easier to make it in. I also had a new salesperson who after I complained to about last year's Allie's victory stated to my concern over Allie's winning when it probably should have been The Grilll never returned my calls. Is it a popularity contest won by self-promotion or PR firms? Perhaps..........

I have no problem leaving food on my plate, even during a tasting menu, and I'd much prefer this option to picking up a shack buger on my way home... I thought about grabbing a Scooby snack as I was crossing the park.

Went Friday. Had the 3 course prix fix. Gnocchi for a starter was good, pig was stickin small. Amuse was a soup which was o.k. and assortment of little bite were very good. After reading here about Chef Humm's menu I couldn't wait to eat here. Had a restaurant week lunch reservation for Thursday but couldn't make it back from the beach in time. Service at the bar was great. I'll give it another shot in the fall when the menu changes.

He also looked like he had slept in his suit jacket. I've heard that before but I was going through a divorce.

Any other suggestions? I don't think I've ever been in LBI during summer. I usually go toward the end of Sept and do my own cooking. I've already reserved Sweet Vidalia for Tues at 9pm. Monday is arrival day and will be probably Engleside. Wednesday is open but I've been barred from Yellowfin . A long ago incident 6 years ago.

True!! This might have been one of the most expensive and unsatisfying meal in the last 5 years.

They were available at The Farmers Market in Morristown yesterday. I bought Jersey Heirloom tomatoes off different sizes and colors.

Maybe we should have had frog's heads after Z Zidane's stupid head butt. I'm exausted but we had rabbit, frog's legs, Heirloom tomato, potato, asparagus & red onion salad. I've finally bought a digital camera annd once I learn how to download I'll post some pics. Forza Azzuri!!!

Got'em at the Asian market. Decided I'll hit the Farmer's Market early and get Artisan bread for.................French Toast in the morning with my orange juice and...............Grey Goose.

You're lucky you yanked that political crap off a fine food board such as this, which never steers off course. David, if you can sneak out I am offering you the chance to join us fine Italian fans in rooting our team on. After we eat The French, we will be eating rabbit, homemade pasta and other stuff that Italians eat while watching soccer. Have to say though, I'll probably drink California wine. Forza Italia!!!

I would have got them through the restaurant but it's already the weekend. A chef-friend of mine is having a party for the game tomorrow and wants to serve frog's legs. Does anyone know where I could obtain 5-10 lbs by 12 noon? He thinks it's good luck for us Italians to eat The French before we beat The French.
