  1. Sure, throw me under the bus. In planning the Fascino dinner all we did was follow the thread, suggest a date and the plan it. It was right out there for anyone to see and The Fascino dinner took about 4 days to fill. ANYONE could have joined us. Now I'm planning a egullet dinner at An American Grill for all egulleteers. I will plan this with a wine pairings and a 5 course meal. If someone can move this to the NJ events post I'd appriciate it.
  2. I enjoyed the godzilla roll, sauve was a bit overwelming but had good flavor. We also had The Romantic roll which was Yellow tail & avacado inside with spicy & white tuna with a nori wrap. The other was The Hot Lover's roll with shrimp tempura , spicy tuna & avacado inside wrapped with a soy bean seaweed wrap in a spicy kabayaki sauce. We also had a Three stooges roll, tuna, salmon, yellow tail, fish egg and cucumber wrapped in white seaweed. As far as sushi, we had tuna, spanish mackeral, salmon and eel. Pete brought a Pinot Gries which I didn't see the producer. Tommy brought a German Lossen Reisling. The Rock brought a bottle of sake which Kyoto warmed for us. I brought a bottle of Chalk Hill Chard and a bottle of the affornmentioned Ice wine which was from Oregon called Sokol Blossom. A great lunch, glad we made the switch.
  3. Rosie, I didn't forget Fascino. I just took us 7 months to get this simple sushi lunch together. Can't hurt to start too early
  4. 12 hours, huh. I might have to start drinking.
  5. "OK" Now this is very effin cool. I have to find a way to link like this from my pre-historic website. I'm there. This is the next dinner. We'll either start or end at The Grill but we're here. I'm up for mid-March. Anyone?
  6. OK(No pun intended) Nouveau is closed for lunch so this is how it goes. We'll meet at 1pm tomorrow at Kyoto. At least we know what we're getting. I have to go to work now as it's 5pm. I'll check when I get home at 11 or 12 to see if that good. So........... Kyoto, Florham Park 1pm. See ya
  7. Red Bean, you sold ME at least. Your impassioned explanation of DelFresco's has got me ready to go. Will be in within the month. Beside you have good initials.
  8. 4 goddamn pages and we haven't had a morsel of food. I'm calling Nouveau Sushi in Montclair around lunchtime. Will post shortly after 1 pm. I will inquire about the omakase. This works well for me as you can see this is the place I wanted to go to anyway. "OK"
  9. Called at 7 pm tonight asked to speak to Allan. Response, " OK". On hold approx 5 minutes. Gave up. I suggest we get here sometime in the summer. My belief is we move this to Nouveau Sushi in Montclair. I'll call at lunch and post in the afternoon. Worst case senario, we eat sushi, but I think it might be a better quality. I'll hook us all up for the omasake. Pete, I just got home, you in?
  10. The menu online is basic sushi. I can live with that. I was just hoping for something different...after Morimoto's in December I haven't even had a piece of sushi. I always knew I'd be disappointed.
  11. I'm nervous. Omakase doesn't sound all that promising. My suggestion: Park close by so we can make a quick exit. Have stand-by restaurant juuussst in case.
  12. This is going to be interesting, I hope Allan the owner still monitors egullet. I just called to make a reservation for 4 or 5 and was told they don't take reservations for under 8. Then I inquired about omakase and the reservationist replied "ok". I asked for an idea of what it might be, said reservationist replied "ok". I have to get back to work now but will try again later. It's between lunch & dinner now and maybe someone that supposed to monitor the phones is on break at Monster. "OK"
  13. Spark's rules!!! Great steaks, AFFORDABLE wine list. Old time atmosphere. My favorite steakhouse in the city.
  14. Yup, wine week is where I'll be. Ugly, sure could be.
  15. I just registered. Always looking to catch a good buzz on the cheap. Anyone up for lunch when they have wine week? I wonder what wines they list, can't be that impressive one with The Stag's Leap, etc, etc etc. If that's the case I might rent a cot.
  16. We were there Thursday afternoon and it was excellent again. We sat at the bar at about 2 and left at 4. Assorted meats, soprosatta, proscuitto & new sausage called fanocchio (suprised at the name because in Italian it's a slang word) 3 cheese, parmigiano-reggiano, a double Italian creamy blue cheese and a NY goat cheese. 2 pizzas, rocket arugola & proscuitto & a special with artichokes & mozzarella. White wine, pinot grigio & Soave Red wine, Gattinara. This is my favorite afternoon place, bar is quiet, can read the newspaper and listen to some good Italian opera. Also the bartenders are better informed than in the past and are now able to lead you through the wines and explain the meats & cheeses better than they used to.
  17. Is it a BYOB? If it is perhaps a egullet dinner is in order. After all a free place to drink, we can pour our own, who cares if food is brought out, maybe we could bring picnic baskets and hide them under the table. Seriously, as a restaurant owner in this fine state of ours it boggles my mind that stories like this are constantly conveyed to me but people continue to try places that don't put up the good. This has been a hard winter, the weather is lousy, business is tough, not many people are going out and I have to come home after the only night this week that I was full and listen to ANOTHER poor dining experience. Hellooooooooooo............. Support your local favorite restaurant before they're closed and you shake your head and say what happened to that place, we were just there 5 months ago. No offense andyabramo
  18. I'm good with omakase also. I'll think about a what I'll bring in addition to the bottle of icewine I'm bringing.
  19. Just checked out the web-site. Pretty much staight forward stuff. Has anyone contacted them about a tasting menu? I'm in charge of Facino's menu so I'll step back on this one.
  20. Rosie, how do I get to Monster Sushi from my neck in the woods? ....and I promise to be on time. What's everybody bringing to drink?
  21. If the money's right.... I don't think that would be a problem, there are plenty of chef's that would send their sous-chef's out on their day off with the opportunity to pocket a little tax-free cash. Welcome to the world of egullet
  22. Some of us are stuck inside at work and couldn't listen. Perhaps a little summary?
  23. Tom, if you're going to be in Newton you should stop by Appletree. It'll save you 35 minutes, though you should stop at Corrado's when you have time. Appletree is just off Rt 15 and 10-15 minutes from Newton. If you need directions let me know.
  24. I don't mean to be rude but why in the world would you sit at a table for 45 minutes to be ignored? I would have my ass out of there in 15 minutes even if The Pope came out to serve me and apologized for the lengthly wait.
  25. All this talk has made me procur some to try this evening. I was all set to devour my cookbooks and get ahead of the week planning some specials for the coming weeks. Oh well. Next, a roast beef sandwich with bread from Panera....and two hours staring at egullet.
