I'm in for sushi on the 2nd. Wherever is good for me as long as it's not Nikko (Which is my regular joint) or Midori ( The last 2 times they didn't put chopsticks or soy sauce in my to go, I'm boycotting). As for lunch at my place, anyday but Thursday, I want to be there. You all give me a idea what you want to eat.

Opps! Maybe their experience wasn't as good as they might have thought it would be. Please feel free to share. I've got a strong backbone. Lou

Ughh!! This is the end of the individually owned restaurant in NJ as we know it. I feel like the guy in the middle of Times Square with the billboard over his chest saying " Repent, the end of the world is near". It's a crazy world and a world that relishes convienence. Hopefully when I move to New York in a couple of years someone here will give me a job.

I'll trade you a Grill for A Melt.

Thanks Paul but it ain't happening. They'll never put me in after I've dissed them over the last two years. How can a restaurant that has been reviewed well by the NY Times, won best New American in NJ Monthly 7 years running, received very good to excellent in The Star-Ledger & Daily Record over a ten year period not be listed as a "Choice in the Mendham-Randolph area? Every person that posts here regularly on egullet and has dined at my place could write-in and the only thing that would get me is another year of disappointment. This time of year always pisses me off. My cusstomers last year or the year before had a write in campaign for me and over 130 votes were ignored. I feel like Gore in Florida during 00'.

You've been trying to get me in that jacuzzi for years now.

Pick a Thursday and I'm there. Close by and I'll bring a few things from my cellar. A chance to spend lunch getting the three of you drunk. Couldn't be better.

The only good they are for is collecting dues. I didn't know about this event....and I pay dues. The only reason there is smoking in restaurants now is they lobby the state on behalf of the casinos.

Sorry Eric, won't be there but I hope you enjoy your meal tonight. I take off Thursdays. Sorry I won't meet and your wife. I'm having a romantic evening at home. As Rosie would say " Make sure you post and give us a report". Best, Lou

I might be in for a lunch or Mon night dinner.

Docsconz, where is the forum you posted in about your visit to San Sebastian? Since my hopefully soon-to-be wife viewed " A Chef's Tour", all we talk about is going there. Thanks, Lou

Hi David, If you'd like a perspective from a owner on how we make wine friendly to customers here goes. In addition to a wine list that is mostly American and ranging from $24 for Canyon Road Cab Sav '02 to Opus One '96 for $195, we offer many wines by the glass. Prices rang from $5.50 to $8.50. If you are unfamiliar with a wine we'll bring the bottle to the table and allow a taste. We'll carry between 12-16 wines by the glass, Sav Blanc from New Zealand, Chianti from Italy, etc, etc. Obviously most of these wines are less expensive than California wines and allows me to sell them at a good price to the customer. This also allows the customer to taste wines they might be afraid to order by the bottle either here or in a liquor store. Hope this is a help.

That's a lovely synopsis of a restaurant. One that you wish were closer than 90 minutes. Also, they're willingness to make something that they no longer serve. I will try to make it out there before the first snow. Excellent.

At least Zagat's has been there.

The name Ann Walters is very familiar. I believe I already donated something here. II'll check my notes when I get to work.

It boggles my mind sometimes why local groups don't contact restaurants for events like this, especially when it's The Kiwanis group.....in my town. Evie, if you could, have them call me and see what I can do to help. I certainly can donate some food. Go Vikings!!! ooops Rams Lou

Napa Valley Grill allows smoking. I was there with Sue and her mother Saturday. Needed a drink and a smoke after walking the mall with two woman for 3 and a half hours.

Glad you enjoyed everything on Monday......ESPECIALLY since I was away. I'm thinking early next year on the Prix Fixe. I'm also thinking about for November, anyone ordering a $50 or more bottle of wine receiving a $20 gift certificate.

I have to go now. There's two blocks to stumble to have some sushi at The Engleside. Have to say the sushi is very good. Sweet Vidlalia was great one night and medicore later on but they were closing for the season and it was their last night. As far as Buckalew's, drinking is the only thing that should be done there. It's gone way downhill over the last 4 years. I had lunch at Plantation today and had a good caesar and a very good Cuban sandwich. Did I say I have to go yet?

If you're looking for company I'd bring the Spin or RS with you. I'm sitting on my deck overlooking the Atlantic on vacation. Getting ready to impliment a new menu for Winter and studying hard If you go make sure you report back. Some have PM'd that because I know who egullet members are they are treated better. Now, I'm not there and haven't been for 10 days. A good time for some to test the place. Anyway, back to the deck, only an hour of sun left.

I wish you a great future.

Now, finally a chance to go to Union Pacific and enjoy the ambiance and not worry whether the Rocco of old might be there. Good luck to the BLT group as Bobby Flay's place on 22nd has ben weak for years.

You were already there. Gotham B& G is great for solo dining.
