  1. As you said, the ingredient list is sesame oil only. I also missed the little part where it says Taiwan.
  2. Yes, they buy food from all over the world in bulk and redistribute it under their brand name. That is why I sometimes question the origins of the food. I buy a lot of it here because sometimes it is the only brand available and I've never really had any reason to question the quality of their food.
  3. I was very glad to get the clarification on Sesame seed and sesame oil. These are the three oils that are available to me in the supermarkets here. Left to right, from Greece, China, and from Roland?. The one from Roland is the only one that is clearly marked pure sesame oil. It does have this Chinese writing on the back. The one from Greece doesn't list ingredients and the one from China is sesame oil and soybean oil. I would be very interested to know more about the Chinese oil and how it would be used. I know that you would probably dump it but here, Beggars can't be choosers.
  4. That's what I thought, too. Much too elegant for hot dogs.
  5. This article about horrible vintage foods attempts to explain some of the ghastly Jello dishes of the 50s 60s and 70s that we have been seeing on another thread.
  6. According to the article, it's to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Flintstones. It's aimed at the old kids that do remember it.
  7. Coming soon to a store near you. https://www.bestproducts.com/lifestyle/a34632604/international-delight-fruity-pebbles-and-cocoa-pebbles-coffee-creamers/ Now you can have your coffee and your cereal together in one cup.
  8. Can you imagine gathering around this beautiful plate of spaghetti o Jell-O? What were they thinking?
  9. I never did figure out where the 'there' that they were talking about was but I have always had the feeling that I was on the outside of the hippie movement looking in and I was certainly glad that I wasn't 'there'.
  10. I thought it was a root, too, but it turned out to be the stem. Whatever it was, it scared the Living Daylights out of me in the middle of the night.
  11. Took some doing to find and I finally had to go to Wikipedia but there was an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in 1967 that involved both cows and pigs.
  12. Does it change color as it Cooks? Why are licorice products black?
  13. I had a hunch that it was probably Danish because I had seen canned a lot of Danish bacon in the supermarkets in the US about that time. If I remember right, didn't the UK have an epidemic of disease about that time that just about wiped out the pigs in Britain.
  14. Got no idea! I didn't eat it. It looked like a triple dose of slime to me.
  15. It got worse than that. I remember a buffet once where someone had one with okra and canned mushrooms.

    Dinner 2021

A favorite of mine but you can make mine without ranch.
  17. I just remembered that when we first moved to Costa Rica, I used to buy either cassia or cinnamon sticks in our Central Market that were about 2 ft long and 2 or 3 in in diameter. It was quite cheap. I don't remember it being very strong flavored but it had a very strong aroma. I used a lot of it for Christmas decorations.
  18. Do they have a similar flavor? I have a little cinnamon tree that will never get big enough to contribute any bark but maybe I can use the leaves.

    Dinner 2021

Great minds think alike. 🤔🤔🤔Exactly what we had for dinner last night but I had to make mine in the oven.
  20. I use dictation exclusively now rather than typing because I do everything on my telephone and I hate the little bitty keyboard. That is the spelling that they used and now that I know that it is wrong I will correct them.
  21. Thank you so much. I am really going to enjoy this. Now I know why the peppercorns that I buy have never had any numbing effect. They're old. But unfortunately they're all I can get. I have never seen the green ones here. Star anise, for some reason or other, has become very popular in Costa Rica and I can buy that just about anywhere. It's very interesting to know that the one that I pop in my green tea every morning might have come from very close to where you live.

Could you elaborate a bit on the difference between green and red Szechuan peppercorns? Have you done a topic on Chinese herbs and spices? Thank you.
  23. You're right. Reading back through it some parts of it almost makes me laugh. The idea of Mayan warriors running through the jungles with tamales in their pockets 7000 years ago is pretty ridiculous. My idea in posting the article was to show that many of our foods of today do have a similarity with Foods of past civilizations and that even then, they were taking care in the preparation of food using spices and aromatics.
  24. Just think what a fantastic food writer he could be in the future should he choose to go that route.
