  1. Since Israel is a small country with people from every country imagineable, it is an outie. The only thing we lack here are good Chinese and Thai restaurants.
  2. I am looking forward to this blog. I have a degree in Interior Design and I love Seattle. I can't wait to see the picture from Monsoon. I adore Dim Sum. Unfortunately, the Dim Sum here is pretty dismal. I haven't been to Seattle in about 12 years. I ate dinner at the Painted Table. It was fantastic. I heard that it closed. Blog on Henry....
  3. Bienenstich or Bee Sting. That is my 93-year-old grandmother's favourite dessert. Here is a recipe. Great job on the blog JAZ.
  4. Musee Picasso in Antibes.
  5. I just had an idea. Instead of buying apricot jam, you could make apricot lekvar and add flavour it with kirschwasser or rum. Try and find dried sour apricots instead of the Mediterranean ones. Apricot Lekvar 1lb dried apricots Add 1/2 cup of sugar if you are using sour apricots, otherwise don't add any sugar. Water to cover Place the dried apricots in a saucepan and add enough water to just cover the apricots. Cook until tender, add the sugar and stir until thickened. Remove from the heat and put in a cuisinart or blender and puree.
  6. A Persian friend of mine is coming to dinner on Friday night and I will ask him about it, but in the mean time.... See this link on Nowruz (Persian New Year).
  7. We will definitely go to La Merenda and we will splurge for one really nice dinner. We lucked out. We have enough miles for free tickets, enough points for two nights in a hotel in Avignon and we are staying a friend's villa in Cap d'Antibe. We are very excited. We haven't had a vacation in two years. I have also looked on the Michelin website and found some interesting restaurants that we are going to check out.
  8. Thanks Corinna. I will be taking lots of pictures and I will post them and a review of the trip.
  9. Yes, Menton, that would be most helpful. And, like you, I prefer middle-ground, family-run bistros. We can't afford the high-end restaurants.
  10. Abra, that is gorgeous! Did you make a frangipane with hazelnuts intead of almonds?
  11. I made hamentaschen for Purim. You can see the Hamentaschen thread.
  12. The hamentaschen tasted great. Unfortunately, I couldn't find dried sour apricots, so the apricot was not as pronounced. I put cinnamon and clove in the date paste and it added nicely to the flavour. Pam - What fillings did you put in the chocolate-ginger dough?
  13. I would also suggest having Haggadot that are specifically for children and print out pictures for them to color (depending on their age). This gets them involved in the seder. Ask them questions during the seder; it will encourage them to ask. This is the one I like for children: Children's Haggadah (I couldn't find it in Amazon)
  14. Anyone have any suggestions for Provence? We are flying into Marseilles, staying in Avignon for a couple of days and then going to stay in Cap d'Antibes.
  15. The recipe was perfect. I didn't have to change a thing and it was even better the second day.
  16. Chag Purim Sameach! Here are my homemade apricot and date & walnut hamentaschen: Pre-baked Ready for tasting...
  17. Here is a recipe for Piragi. You have to download the recipe.
  18. Should I be giving prices for what I buy or for what's commonly available? Should I make a trip to a supermarket for this survey? ← My list are things that I buy and have in the house right now. You shouldn't have to make a special trip.
  19. Sorry Bloviatrix about your wrist. You can always make some when your wrist is better. Feel better soon.
  20. Pan, I think that what we call Persian rice here is probably Basmati rice. The Persian varieties are champa, rasmi, anbarbu, mowlai, sadri, khanjari, shekari, doodi, and others. I don't speak Parsi, so I don't know what they are in English and I am not sure if these types are available elsewhere. I will have to ask a Persian friend of mine here. We import our rice from the US, Thailand, Korea and India.
  21. It doesn't come from Iran. I am not sure. I will have to investigate.

  23. I am still trying to finish Purim. I am not ready to think about Passover yet.
  24. I'm game. I get started when I get home. Do you want me to convert in US and Euro?
