  1. Be sure to try the grits and the biscuits.
  2. I never heard of this restaurant. When were you there? In Hoboken I like The Dining Room at Anthony David's and Amanda's.
  3. Wild Ginger is a good choice. Small restaurant so don't go without a reservation. Expensive. BYO.
  4. newguy--It is just my opinion. Others love this place.
  5. Nouveau Sushi on Bloomfield Ave, Montclair BYO Chef is from Nobu. We ate there once. Food was good but prices are high and portions are small. David Corcoran (NY Times) gave it a very good.

Fascino (Anthony)-- Good to see you here. Don't be a stranger. You are allowed to answer on all postings not just Fascino's!
  7. I love both Andre's and Zoe's. Had dinner at the Inn at Millrace Pond and the place is charming but the food is not the same caliber as you would get at Andre's. Be sure to let us know where you end up and how it was.
  8. Chengdu 46--Clifton Many people like this place. I was there once and didn't find the food to be anything different than the usual Chinese restaurants that cater to American tastes. Cathay 22, Springfield--good reputation but I have never been. Shanghai Jazz--Madison If you like jazz this restaurant would make for a pleasant evening.

  10. m(a)ce--Would you share with us your job in the food industry?
  11. Chefb2057, m(a)ce and Phillip--thanks for your reports and welcome to eGullet. Be sure to give us reports on other NJ restaurants you dine at. As you know two people can go to the same restaurant on the same night and have two very different experiences.
  12. Andre's, Newton Black Forest Inn, Stanhope Zoe's By the Lake, Sparta All of these have been written about on eGullet. I was just at Zoe's this past week. Do a search for more information. Welcome to eGullet. When you dine anyplace be sure to give us a report.
  13. I'll have to drive by on a Sunday when more families eat out and see if it is busy.
  14. Scott Jacobson, chef at Zoe's By The Lake, 112 Tomahawk Trail, Sparta never fails to please. We had an outstanding dinner at this charming restaurant last night. We started with an amuse of crabmeat on a small round of toast. Appetizers were a luscious yellow tomato bisque with seared sea scallops; a mixed baby greens and endive salad with Parmesan and aged red wine vinaigrette; and a "don't miss" special if it is available of French onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese. Chef Jacobson is a whiz with sauces and I wanted to lick the current sauce off the plate that accompanied the melt in your mouth duck breast and leg confit with butternut squash spaetzle. The grouper was also perfectly cooked and came with wilted arugula, asparagus and orange ginger black rice. Lowell had a Black Angus strip steak with bacon risotto (what could be bad?) and string beans and asparagus. It's hard to pass up pastry chef Gregory Farrell's desserts. We were so full that we shared a flaky apple strudel with ice cream. Chocolate lovers should opt for the chocolate sampler or the warm upside down chocolate soufflé. If you haven't been to Zoe's the fall is a beautiful time to take a ride up to Sparta. We noticed that the trees were beginning to turn color. Phone: 973-726-7226.
  15. We didn't like Feng Shui and when I found out that Sanyong had the same chefs and menu we decided not to try this place. The cuisine IMHO was Chinese food for American people. I'm also partial to Hunan Cottage.

    Northern NJ

The Colloseum on Rt 9 in Sayreville The Den in Somerset Milltown also has a few gay bars, but they are predominately lesbian bars.
  24. If you are on the anti-Atkins diet be sure to go to El Prado. I have never had so many carbs in one meal. When seated we were brought fried plantains with a sour cream/garlic dip and a parsley and olive oil dip. For apps Lowell had a beautifully presented beet and potato salad that had been molded in a tall rectangle with a flower perched on the top. The salad was good but I prefer roasted beets that have not been pickled. I had eggplant that was listed as being stuffed with garlic and almonds. The eggplant was fine and I LOVE garlic but the uncooked garlic paste in this dish was overpowering. Entrees were a rice and chicken dish that was accompanied with fried plantains. Yes it was tasty but the tremendous serving of rice and bits of chicken made this dish one that I could not recommend. Lowell had pork chops accompanied with addictive greaseless homemade potato chips, a tremendous amount of rice, a bit of beans and guacamole. It was just ok. Dessert was a very good flan. BYO. With tax and tip the meal was $62.

    Confucius

HUH??? Actually, you are probably right but one assumes that when one is going to a Chinese restaurant in NJ one would get all the items that we didn't get! FWIW--I hear that there is a Japanese restaurant opening in the Harborside Financial Building V. Should we not expect sushi there?
