  8. Had a lovely dinner at Trattoria Fresco. Munched on a pizza made with oven roasted tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil while we tried to decide what to order. We shared the following appetizers: fritto misto made with calamari, shrimp, scallops, and clams, a Caesar salad, a wild arugula and baby red leaf, wood roasted figs salad accompanied with a goat cheese crisp; and lasagna. Entrees were lemon crumb crusted soft shell crabs served with baby spinach whipped Yukon gold potatoes; wood roasted chicken; short ribs with roasted beet insalata; skirt steak served with tomato insalata, sweet and sour cippolini’s and Tuscan fries; and halibut with rock shrimp farrato and asparagus insalata. Co-chefs Rich Giacalone and Paul Lustbader sent out an ice cream sugar cone for everyone but we also had berry parfaits and a chocolate tasting for dessert comprised of a hot fudge glazed cake, crispy Godiva truffles, and a chocolate gelato. Phone: 973-226-8800. BYO.

  19. We returned to the Jefferson and had a wonderful dinner. When seated olive oil, whipped ricotta cheese with lemon and delicious bread from Sullivan St Bakery was brought to the table. Started off with a light and refreshing arugula salad and baked artichokes topped with garlic and mozzarella. Lowell had the fluke with lemon risotto and I had grilled wild salmon with asparagus and a potato pancake. All of the dishes were scrumptious. For dessert we had cheese. We had an excellent bottle of Italian red wine—Plazzo Della Torre--that was $28. We went to Total Wine to buy it today and it sells for $15.99. Not a bad mark up. Executive Chef Michael Coury is indeed a treasure. Do try this restaurant if you haven’t experienced his cuisine. For reservations call 201-386-9955.

    Zen

I have a 10% off coupon which they returned to us. We were there at 5:30 and it was empty but by the time we left half of the tables were full.
  22. Mother's is a James Beard restaurant. Never been but have heard very good reports.

    Zen

We returned to Zen and vowed to frequent this restaurant more often. Apps were a fabulous “Fat Boy” salad comprised of spicy tuna and seafood; and lightly braised tofu in a miso type of sauce. Then we shared two special rolls –eight pieces each. One was a special of salmon, soft shell crab, tempura chips, scallion, and cucumber topped with spicy salmon and spicy tuna. This was Lowell’s favorite. The other one was the "avalanche roll” made with spicy white tuna, shrimp, spicy tuna, and tempura chip, topped with caviar, avocado and white tuna. Delicious. We were stuffed after all of that fish. Has anyone been here recently?"
  24. Bravo Jonathan. Thanks for the post.
  25. According to Yahoo 11 miles but you should double check that. Trenton--Amici Milano, Marsilio's or John Henry's. Haven't been to any of them in a very long time. Lawrenceville--Acacia--BYO; Enzo’s La Piccola Cucina (cash only); Lawrenceville Inn--BYO. Little further than Trenton. You may also want to drive a bit further and go into Lambertville where I can recommend No 9; Hamilton's Grill; and Manon. All BYO.
