  1. Check your bill. They charged me AGAIN for shipping and handling.

    Montclair

I passed Island Spice and it looked nicer than I expected. White table cloths and candles. Worth a try. I know the other restaurant you are talking about. It is quite snazzy but I was asked not to post the name as they want a quiet opening. Not cheap. I was there for a drink late one Sat. night and the bar was packed. There are some large "bouncers"/doormen outside. On Walnut St. I like Corso 98. BYO.
  3. Sharon Gintzler gave this restauant 3 stars for food in the Star Ledger 11/8/02.
  4. I have a deadline on Thursday but if I am home by 5 PM that is fine.

    Venison?

I think that it is wonderful that the restaurateurs are participating on this board. I think the young man should try venison at a few restaurants so he can compare the different cooking styles and cuisines. In any case please give us a report.

Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange. Buy NJ Bride. They have a list of unique places in the fall/winter issue. Congratulations.
  7. I'm rolling my pennies as I type. Price not an object.
  8. As of now I expect to be there on Monday. I will be wearing clothes and my badge says Food Bytes.

    Venison?

Venison is not a cheap meat. In any case, call Sergeantsville Inn, Sergeantsville and ask if they still have it on the menu. They specialize in game meats. It's a lovely stone restaurant dating from the 1700's and is near the only covered bridge in NJ. It's a lovely drive. Let us know where you end up.
  10. Stephens has closed. New owners will be opening a restaurant soon with a different name. I'll post the information on Table Hopping With Rosie when they open.
  11. Lowell is a maybe. I'll know as we get closer to the date.
  12. Lou--Any new info for us? How many so far? This is an eGullet event. All are invited.
  13. Nockerl--Thanks for following through and posting the information.
  14. Brookside Thai, 378 Broad St, Bloomfield advertises itself as the only Thai restaurant in Bloomfield serving authentic Thai food. I don't know if that is correct or not so if you live in the area let me know. The meal was okay, certainly not as good as the food you get at Wondee in Hackensack. We started with deep fried tofu served with a Thai plum sauce and ground peanuts which was delicious and Thai steamed dumplings filled with marinated shrimp, pork and mushrooms served with a special sauce. We didn't care for the filling in the dumplings and the noodles were too thick. Entrees were a deep fried whole flounder topped with chili sauce and fresh basil which was good but small and if you order this be forewarned that it is full of bones and doesn't have much on it. We also had flat rice noodles topped with a "chef special gravy", Chinese broccoli and chicken which were nothing special. With tax and tip the meal was $30 for two people. BYO. We would probably try this place again and try other items.
  15. Ixora is worth a trip also.

  17. Other restaurants I like in Montclair are Blue Sky Cafe, Corso 98 and Epernay. All BYO.
  18. My apologies to everyone. We have tickets for a show on Sunday and I forgot to write this in on my calendar. I am so sorry but I won't be able to attend.
  19. Joel's Malibu Kitchen received a "Good" from David Corcoran in The New York Times (10/27/02).
  20. Tommy--Wasabi is on the New York Times card which gives you 25% off.
  21. This small BYO does not take reservations and by 6:30 on a Sunday night people were waiting for a table. I had tempura consisting of lightly deep fried shrimp and vegetables which was a treat as I try to stay away from fried foods. Entrees come with soup, salad and rice. Lowell had fried tofu as an appetizer and Udon noodle soup which he loved. Friends had green river rolls consisting of eel, avocado and cucumber; soba noodle soup; and salmon teriyaki. Anyone been here?
  22. Suvir--With you in charge there is no doubt in my mind that it will be an outstanding meal.
  23. My consorts name is Lowell.
  24. I have been saving myself for the eGullet NY Indian dinner! Thanks for your thorough explanations.
  25. Been there a few times and it was excellent. Ditto to Jason's post!
