Check the NJ board. We are having lunch on Dec 2 at An American Grill in Randolph. All are welcome. E-mail me if you are interested in attending. And a real plus about dining in NJ is that the parking is free and you don't get an $85 ticket like I did on Weds!

You might be right on that one. Well--OK--you are right on that one. However, NJ has a very large Indian population and since it was never my favorite cuisine I haven't eaten at many Indian restaurants. As of last night NY wins for having the best Indian cuisine.
  3. I forgot to take my name tag home from the eGullet dinner last night in NYC. And it had my avatar on it also.

"Thanks for your sweet posts. I was somewhat nervous about Rosie and you. I was hoping you would each find at least one thing that would make you happy.... Glad it was more than just one." More than just one! I loved everything. It was the best Indian meal I have ever had and so different from the Indian food I have eaten in the past. My only regret is that I was so full by the time the meat came that I could only take small tastes and gave the leftovers for my daughter, the starving artist, to take home!
  5. Not too late. We need a count by Weds. Nov. 27. The lunch is on Mon. Dec. 2. Looking forward to meeting you. Name tag alert---Rachel?????
  6. Anonymous guests are allowed. Invisible ones also. But you need to e-mail me so I have an accurate account for Lou.
  7. For those of you who do not like or want steak sandwiches Lou has told me that you can order lunch off of the menu.

In those narrow terms, yes Rosie, but I would be doing a disservice to my family if I didn't mention that the fruit of my loins made a brief appearance at the Official eGullet drinking session at Zum Schneider, and has attended more than one unofficial eGullet-type dinner. She may never recover from the sight of Nina eating the feet of a guinea pig. Thanks for the information. I am happy to be in # 2 place. You are officially the first person to have their family at an eGullet event.

Not only spouses but spouses and child! Are we the first family that has attended an eGullet dinner?

"Everyone brought an overabundance of drinks and shared them generously, including Tommy, regardless of what Rosie says." Well Tommy didn't offer me any wine and there were too many people at his table to steal it! Steve P--I kissed you good-by??? That was a kiss from the spider woman. A BIG THANK YOU to Suvir for the outstanding job he did last night. The love and care that he put into organizing and presenting this dinner is greatly appreciated. The food was so different than the Indian food I have had in the past. I especially liked the chutneys, the spinach & lentil cake, the cauliflower cooked in Indo-Chinese style, the crispy okra and the beggars purse. What a friendly crowd. It was wonderful meeting everyone. Again--thank you Suvir.
  12. Here are the specifics. $22 with a beverage of choice. Kim's salad will be obviously less. Lou--can you describe the specifics for us? French fries etc?
  13. I don't like beer so I was hoping Lou would let me have a glass of red wine.

  17. I'm going and I'm not collecting social security.
  18. Monday Dec. 2 for steak sandwiches and beer at An American Grill in Randolph. All are welcome. Post here if you are interested in going. Our host Lou Reda needs to give us the price and time. Would 12:30 be ok?
  19. I really enjoyed the steaks at Frankie and Johnnies but we were there on a Sat. night and could hardly hear each other talk. The place was also smokey. I would go there on a Sunday at 5 PM but never on a Sat. night.
  20. Amanda's is excellent and they have a liquor license. I really liked the food at Frankie and Johnnies but the place is VERY noisy and smokey. Not the place for a business dinner.
  21. We would be happy to take up to people. However, I don't know if Lowell is working on Weds. and I don't know what time we will be leaving. We live in West Orange and will be taking the Lincoln Tunnel. If you want to come to my house e-mail me for directions. I assume we will be leavng sometime between 5:30 and 6:30.
  22. The soup smelled like acorn squash to me. It was medium thick. Not a puree but certainly not a thin broth. I liked it. I certainly hope they don't get a liquor license. I would like to add that the staff was wonderful. Lowell and I got there at 7:30 for an 8 PM reservation. It was raining so hard and we got a parking spot so decided to wait at the restaurant. I prefer the main room where the "gourmet" deli is with all of the foods and cheeses. At first they were unable to sit us there and sat us in the "newer" room which is lovely with it's brick walls and pillowed seats but doesn't have the ambiance of the other room. A party of 6 didn't show up and didn't call to cancel (unforgiveable) and the staff offered to move us to the other room. They didn't have to do this as we were already seated with open wine and water. Parking IS horrendous in Hoboken but we were able to park on Frank Sinatra drive which is a few blocks from the restaurant. And--the restaurant has 36 seats. Make a reservation a few weeks in advance.
  23. I think it was inappropriate for them to ask you to leave after 90 minutes and perhaps would have spoken to the manger at that point.
  24. Corso 98 in Montclair We recently ate at Casa di Amici in Denville and liked it alot. Both BYO.
  25. And a good time was had by all. Many thanks to Lou Reda for organizing this feast. The sushi IMHO was a cut above other restaurants. Of course there were more wine, beer and saki bottles on the table than people! I think Suzanne was going to describe our meal and Rachel took pictures. I just want to know if Anthony made his conference call?
