They are just coming into season now but are very expensive. I love them in a beer batter and deep fried. Have had them like that at Blue Sky. Had soft shell crabs this week at Basilico that were nut crusted. Yummmmmmm!
Pete Genovese is very knowledgeable about NJ restaurants and specializes in the lower end eateries in the state. I always enjoy his columns. Has anyone been to any of the places that he has listed?
Bearstew--Read my report on Le Rendezvous and then ask me if I own stock in the restaurant. http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?act=ST...l=le+rendezvous I don't have any connection to Jocelyne's but would happily kidnap the chef to take home so he could cook for me everynight. It is one of the best restaurants in NJ.
I'm not having too much success with Japanese restaurants this week. We walked into Samurai Sushi in Millburn last night. The place was packed and there were people waiting for tables. However, the restaurant had a nauseating fishy smell to me and we left. I've never been to a sushi restuarant that reeked of fish.
Four of us ate at Aozora in Montclair and were disappointed. I had to send the tuna back as it tasted old. The restaurant is beautiful, the service good but no one was impressed with the food. My latest find is Mr Pi's in Metuchen. Excellent.
