Mike's in Boston!!! I am getting homesick!!!

On the C & W front there's a tune by Tom T. Hall called Who's Gonna Feed Them Hogs? 'Bout a wife who walks out on her hubby durin' hog feedin' time... Gee wonder why she walked out....

My all time fave childhood cereal never seems to have resurfaced... Does anyone else remember Rice Krinkles? They were kinda like very small Special K but presweetened (natch...) Their icon was a little oriental boy...

Wow, I'm impressed...an answer without a plug to buy his book.... (I'm buying it anyway...hope you will autograph it ...)

...Just a wonderin' what a Las Vegas tribute restaurant is....

Mr. Cutlets, for a man old enough to have advised President McKinley... you look so young...perhaps, like a Luger's steak you are dry aged....
-
Nice articles on Peter Luger's meat purchasing, Mr. Cutlets.... but it still begs the question.... How come no other restaurateur does what they do? You would think someone else would want to seriously compete. Especially in New York.
-
Dear Mr. Cutlets, Thank you for the recommendations. Of those you mentioned I have just been to Peter Luger's so far, and the steak was so good I have trouble ordering it out anymore. I intend on buying your book, sounds great! -Trish

i second this! thanks again for the suggestion trish. Glad you enjoy Carminuccio's as well, River... It is much closer to me than the New Haven places and satisfies the urge for a nice little artisanal pizza fix.

Hi Mr. Cutlets, Please help this occasional NYC tourist become more untrapped... What restaurants do you relish in the big apple? Best regards to Mrs. Cutlets and any lil nuggets. -Trish

Glad you liked it and took a chance to try something new! Enjoy! If you come across anything else worth a stop on that drive let me know. I make it myself going to Massachusetts, and it's a bit boring foodwise. Also, at Carminuccio's their fresh hot pizzas are great (as opposed to a warmed slice.) -
Sometime try Carminuccio's on Rt. 25 in Newtown, CT.... Their pizza is so good I used them to cater a VIP business luncheon and got huge raves... and the account.

1. Apple Walnut Cake, won me a blue ribbon and some nice prizes at a country fair. 2. Peachtree Schnapps Cake. Lost me a ribbon in another fair when a contestant making a rum cake realized she had no rum in the house and substituted the schnapps... Voila a star was born! As consolation, at least I got her recipe. 3. Black Forest Cake from scratch with outstanding cherries and kirsch. 4. The ultra easy Pineapple Cake I submitted in another thread. The easiest from scratch cake you'll ever make.

Savarin just refers to the ring shaped pan the cake is baked in. Carry on...this thread is amusing to us outsiders....

Some nice ideas so far...can anyone recommend a particular riesling or sauterne that would be good for this...?

I was there once, with one other, and the cheese sommelier was wonderful. The last time I was there she was terrible. After getting our cheese plate, we wondered if she heard our request at all. I've always had great help behind the counter, though. Our cheese sommelier was a guy... maybe it matters who's on duty....?

MtDew, with apologies, I copied your heading for my query about dried fruit.... 1. Pears mixed with canned pineapple make very nice preserves. 2. Pears poached and served over ice cream with chocolate sauce. 3. Pear & Apple Crisp.
-
As a get well gift, a friend gave me a 2 lb box of dried fruit, including white nectarines, peaches, Angelino plums, October Sun Plums, Blenheim Apricots and Pears. All are pretty good eaten straight, except the pears which are rather mushy and mealy-like. Other than raisins, dried cherries and cranberries, I don't have much experience with dried fruit... Would love you to share any good recipes and ideas. Thanks in advance! Trish

Dined there a few months ago, had an excellent meal and pleasant service. The cheese sommelier (is that the correct term?) was especially helpful in assisting us with our cheese selections.

My joy in cooking was inspired by Julia. She's simply the best.

I caught the show also, and it was very sweet. I saw Julia make the same burger on her tv special with Jacques Pepin. I laughed so hard when she says she likes a thin burger because otherwise it's too big for her to chew and then she loads hers up like the Empire State Building...gotta love her! As to Julia's comment on fat, I thought she said the low fat people were nutty (not naughty).... (I may have misheard)... Julia looked like she was having fun, and like the hokey pokey...that's what it's all about....

My daughter and I are going to see a friend of ours perform in the American Girl play (at the new American Girl theatre near Saks) in a couple weeks. It's a Thursday, just wondering how necessary reservations are at Chikalicious because not sure what time we will be there. We just gotta try this out, I downloaded the menu, sounds sooo fun!! Thanks! Trish

Urinetown eh...? I went once, and I gotta go again!!! All right...bad puns aside...that show is EXCELLENT.... I had the good fortune of seeing Hunter Foster in it (he created the lead role of Bobby), he has since left and wouldn't you know it...he is the lead in Little Shop, which I just saw.... I am now a Hunter groupie by fate... And of course... because I wouldn't dream of straying off topic... Truly, I have not been to I Trulli. Trish
