  1. Damn. You know coffee. I didn't even understand half of what was written. I need to drink more coffee.
  2. Au contraire. There may be a convention or two in town--booksellers? fashionistas?--but still, lotsa bistros will want your biz and probably some high end spots as well. Get cracking. The first few days will be devoted to one of those conventions. Then it's all wine and food.
  3. I agree with the Cedar Creek Eherenfelser. Great summer wine. Pink grapefruit, citrus zest, melon. The sip that refreshes.
  4. I'm a lurker on VC so I know you ain't no rookie Futronic :)
  5. My wife and I will also be in Paris for the first 10 days of Sept. Haven't even tried making reservations. Ooops. Oh well. Rented an apartment so it looks like markets and home cooking for us.
  6. Agreed. Joes has some of the freshest seafood I have had in a while. My father was a commercial fisherman on the West Coast so I ate seafood 6 out of 7 days a week whether I needed to or not so I feel I am a good judge of quality seafood and Joe's is it.
  7. I agree that it is still a bit tight. I openned it on a monday and finished it on a tuesday. Right now this one needs a bit of decanting.
  8. Thanks for the post Coop. I've been meaning to try this place but always get distracted and end up elsewhere. Sounds good though. That Dogojolo, I like it but every few months the liquor board (or agent) raises the price. I think it's a blend of sangiovese and cab/sauv with a touch of cab/franc, can't remember for sure.
  9. Craig: In order for a wine to be Brunello di Montalcino, must it be 100% sangiovese grosso? The same with Vino Nobile Montepulciano, 100% Prugnolo or can other things be added or blended with it?
  10. Whatever they serve ya. The view will make up for everything. Enjoy.
  11. Prugnolo Gentile is the name of the sangiovese clone used in Montepulciano. Similar to Brunello is the clone used in Montalcino.
  12. It's odd, when I drink Chateau Soutard for instance, I know I am drinking mainly merlot, but I don't think of it as merlot but as Soutard. BTW. 65% merlot, 30% cab/franc, 5% cab/sauv.
  13. Someone came in yesterday and asked for a cabernet sauvignon. So I showed her one from Chile, she then said " no, I want a white cabernet sauvignon". What do ya do.

    Corky Streaks

Personally, I feel I have a knack, no let's make that a gift for choosing that oh so special bottle of dull, flat corked wine. I know when presented with a gift we should accept it with grace but this is one gift I could do without thank you very much.
  15. When tommy gets to 666,666 posts the world comes to an end. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't do it man.
  16. Holt shit Tommy. Is that posting number for real? 11,110 posts? I've got some catching up to do.
  17. I just now openned two corked bottles. Give me the screwcap, I'm getting fed up.
  18. Not too late in August though, I'll be out of town. France calls and I always answer the phone.
  19. If the day works I'm in.
  20. Rover: I ate at Aurora last week and had almost the identical meal including the wines. My impressions of the the wine list were same as yours, built around price point and not quality. In fact the cab/franc was a poor example of a fine grape. The food was good but the Chef didn't come to our table either, even though he spoke to the table next to us. I'm not saying that the chef needs to hang out with every table in the room but, as you said, he didn't learn a thing about being a host even though John Bishop is perhaps the best in the city for that. It is early to start critisizing this place barely open one week but they better get their shit together because landlords and suppliers arn't the most patient when it comes to new businesses.

    Canon de Brem 1982

Congrats on the anniversary. Glad the Canon de Brem is holding up. I have some 1999's as well as mags of the same. They drink well now after an hour decanted but most of what I have left I may hold. Afew more mags still available so pehaps I need to go shopping. The wifes away for a few more weeks so she'll never notice. :)
  22. From the website it looks like the old Cyrano's location.
  23. A wine bistro? Where? How dare you tease me like this.

    Red Wine in the Frig

Many wines from Languedoc are fairly complex and full of layers and surprises. The days of being regarded as the "wine lake" are over.
