    Dinner 2018

@suzilightning maybe Swedish meatballs? I do them with dozen or more small meatballs in the slow cooker and serve them with egg noodles and they are very tender. Risotto is also easy, or even orzo with sauce if you don’t feel like bothering with risotto, although Food and Wine has a great risotto recipe with zucchini and sausage for the slow cooker (you could use ground sweet Italian sausage and cook it to crumbly bits). Hope he feels better soon!

    Soft Shell Crab

I love soft shell crabs. I’m curious about when they’re in season though. All the local sushi places offer it year round which makes me a bit skeptical. I prefer it lightly fried with a butter/ lemon/ caper sauce. I’ve never cooked it though.

    Roasted Cauliflower

Ok I have a nice head of califower. Should I attempt to spice and roast it? If so what temp and how long? Of should I test my deep fryer out?
  4. Somehow my grocery delivery order brought me “mozzarella n marinara” flavored Ruffles and not the regular kind I ordered. My husband liked them a lot. I thought they lacked flavor but did not lack salt.
  5. Yea I kinda gave up on the experience. Maybe I’m missing a taste for the ham but mine was very fatty. I should just toss it. I haven’t even bothered to try the bacon sampler. I’m a bit over reactive about things not being as advertised.
  6. Adorable! Can you tell us more about what was in his sandwich creation?
  7. I made this tonight (picture below). It came out well and I would order it again. It’s via Peapod, which is through Stop and Shop here. They apparently partnered for this kit with Wildfire, which is a restaurant in Chicago with various outposts. The beef was of good quality and the ingredients were all fresh. The only thing was while they supplied both butter and olive oil, they weren’t measured out. So I had 4 tablespoons of butter and no scale to measure with. Of course I keep butter sticks so that wasn’t an issue and I also used my own olive oil as their had congealed in the fridge. I did marinate the beef for almost 48 hours due to life getting in the way of having made this last night. I added olive oil to the dry rub marinade. It was $18.98 — not inexpensive but certainly better than delivery, cost wise. I shy away from red meat so this was an easy way to make it approachable for me and please my red meat loving husband.

    Dinner 2018

They sure looked good and I love smoked ribs! My husband will probably make some on our BGE this weekend. How do you manage to prep and cook with such long nails!?
  9. My inlaws went to Stanford and Big Game has nothing to do with this. Boring college football; been there done that. Whichever team wins doesn’t diminish my husband’s degree. Cal is and has been the number one university worldwide for undergrad Chem degrees. So I will take my husband’s opinion, thanks. Obviously to each their own. But really, get a clue. I doubt there is anyone on this board with the chem credentials my husband has. And yes yes I read your citation as did my husband.
  10. I wouldnt personally do that. I don’t believe that’s what peroxide is meant for. I asked my husband who has a BS in Chemistry from Cal and he was appalled.
  11. Yup and no one answered. I’ll try next week when I’m calmer!!
  12. I have one (nice to me) WS board I don’t put in the washer. I have put the others in maybe 2-5 times since I’ve owned them (5-6 years). I only use my wooden boards to slice and rest cooked meat or make a charcuterie board. I have a lot of nice wooden serving pieces meant for cheese and meats and wooden salad bowls and utensils I hand wash. I get why you cringed!
  13. Oh forget it. Their hours are terrible. That speaks volumes.
  14. 100% sure— you can even see my order in an above post. So basically I should call them.
  15. I put my boards— all of them— in the dishwasher. My wooden ones a lot less often. Is that heresay?
  16. Yes. That’s the one. I’ll get it out but the pictures will be on a paper plate since I’m not eating it at this moment so apologies in advance! I lied the cutting board was closer. Heres my ham:
  17. Yes. That’s the one. I’ll get it out but the pictures will be on a paper plate since I’m not eating it at this moment so apologies in advance!
  18. The flavor isn’t strong at all to me. It’s very mellow. Like, Boars Head maple ham cold cuts have more flavor. I also loathe beans unfortunately. And hard boiled eggs. The pimento cheese idea is calling to me!
  19. My ham does NOT look at all like that. It looks more like prosciutto. Is that something to legitimately complain about?
  20. So either I’m missing something or I have a poor palate. The petite ham is... okay. A bit fatty for my taste although the fat has a melty mouthfeel the amount of fat still turns me off. And yes it is salty. Not offensively so but I’m the type who will pop Himalayaian salt crystals into my mouth as a snack. So, ok didn’t meet me expectations. But what do I DO with it? It’s not exactly sandwich meat. It’s hardly an Easter ham. And it’s just my husband and I. Southern cooking is foreign to me but I did pick up a sack of grits in Charleston. Maybe I can combine the two? I’m baking challenged so biscuits and ham just aren’t really going to happen (and even if I used the brand in the tube, it’s too much biscuit and not enough ham being used). I’ve yet to try the bacon.
  21. @Anna N do you prefer sake warm or cold? I love the sensation of drinking warm sake. Those ebi shumai look good.

    Goldbely

Since I’ve just purchased things from Edwards online o may make another purchase from goldbely. Has anyone else used them and if so what did you like or dislike!?
  23. Sunday I was hurting. A Belvedere dirty martini plus the Heitz cab and an after dinner drink... I was exhausted and hurting. Fortunately my husband was as exhausted as I was; we haven’t had more than 5 days in our home together in two months so we SLEPT hard. We ordered UberEats again. Shameful. Today we went to Poogan’s Smokehouse which is the sister restaurant of Poogan’s Porch. It was really good but insane amount of meat butter. We both zoned out, especially since my husband ordered the Four Porksmen which was pulled pork, pork belly, smoked bacon, cheese, bbq sauce and a rib on top. I had the smoked and grilled pork belly with cheesy grits. I didn’t do it justice. But damn I am a grits addict. We walked around the French Quater area for a bit, bought Tervises of all things and my husband bought me an estate sapphire and diamond ring from Croghan’s. A nice trip despite hustling to get home. I did cancel our Husk reservation (I KNOW!) but the menu for the day didn’t appeal strongly to either of us. I would go back, the city is charming and cute but I won’t rush back. Even when it’s 63 degrees it’s super muggy and I was too hot yet people were wearing down jackets! None of the restaurants or shops were using AC. Just a personal pet peeve.
  24. So, my trip is a bit embarrassing, food-wise... after a very turbulent and hot (temperature wise) United shuttle flight I was on about an hour of sleep and really stressed out. We went to HoM ( http://www.homcharleston.com/ ) after leaving our bags at the apartment we rented which was still being cleaned. It was really good, we got the fancy tots, my husband had the Cowboy Killer and those “fried onions” were three onion rings that had to have been battered with a type of funnel cake. Really different in a good way. I had the backyard burger. I then passed out for 6 hours! We had already bought wine and beer and I was hungry and, for shame (although I enjoyed it) we had ihop delivered via UberEats. Saturday, my birthday, we went to Hall’s Chophouse. It wasn’t cheap but it was amazing. The hospitality was above and beyond— we received free champagne as it was my birthday. We had stone crab claws, my husband had the ribeye and I have a 4 oz Waygu A5 and couldn’t finish it— so rich. We had the pepper jack creamed corn, fried okra and sautéed mushrooms with a bottle of Heinz Cabernet. They offer half portions of the sides so you can try more. We took a pedicab home which I loved.
