I hope someone can come up with an answer for you, as my experience was pretty much identical. Just tried out the new PC last night and although the smell wasn't too bad I also got a layer of very dark oil in my batch as well. Haven't tasted yet but not overly optimistic.

Good to know they are fixing this. I thought it was a bit odd when I got mine that it was only wrapped in plastic, there was some pretty minor damage to mine (pic on back was nicked and corners a bit worn), but nothing I was willing to make a deal out of. Frankly was so excited about getting it wasn't prepared to wait for a replacement. Thanks
