  1. Here.
  2. Thanks for the report Proscilla. I've been eyeing Molto every time we go to the bookstore. Think I'll pick it up now.
  3. Hmmm, as good as mine?????? I'd volunteer for a second smackdown to go with the fried chicken, but I'll just focus on the pig, thank you very much.Good idea. I wouldn't want to send you cryin to your momma.
  4. Good thing. Mine suck. ← That may be, but your butter tarts
  5. Sure thing, as long as I can get Scott to clean them. And I would happy to make biscuits. Mine are very good.
  6. Yes please. And you probably don't remember but the raspberry advice you gave me last year is, ahem, bearing fruit this year. Our yield should be excellent.
  7. It's an even closer walk from the Waterfront Station on Metro's green line.
  8. We're talking about foods we hate but most people like, right? Mine is apples. There are a few varieties that are acceptable (Crispin, Ginger Gold, Pink Lady come to mind), but most make me want to gag - especially Macintosh. Biting into a mealy apple makes me shudder. Apple pie? Yes. Applesauce? Sure. Raw apple? Bleah. Oh, and they have to be sliced before I eat them because I hate biting into a whole apple. Actually, I prefer that most fruit be cut up before I eat it - that's how to be sure there's nothing living inside. I have a dear friend who hates ice cream and chocolate. Now that's a freak!
  9. I went the day after they opened. Here's my impression: They did not yet have their license the night I went, and no desserts. I was impressed enough to want to go back. Edit: they might not be open late enough for you, Mr. Slater. They are closed on Tuesdays instead of the more usual Mondays.
  10. Dean, am I correct to assume that booze in not considered an in-kind donation?
  11. Scott and I will be arriving on Friday and are willing to be put to work. We'd be happy to supply some paper goods and cups again. And we will definitely bring some bourbon.
  12. So it'll feature smelly tramps pissing in the corners, a carpet of loose Burger King wrappers and several furtive chickenhawks cruising for scrawny teenage runaways? Sounds like a fun time. ← Beautiful! Wonder where it is? Bethesda is enough of a hassle without adding a 700 seat restaurant.
  13. I sent Scott a link to Marcel's website (with a lovely pic of boudin blanc on the home page) and now he's having trouble concentrating at work. It's his birthday dinner on 6/18, so he gets to choose. Friday night he wants to go out for drinks and play it by ear. We live pretty scheduled lives (small kids) so getting an evening to hang out is at a premium.
  14. Is that the place on N St? If so it was 2 blocks from my apartment and got more than enough of my business then. Sette serves brunch? Marcel's what? Getting Scott into a tie might be challenging, but I will see about a reservation for Friday. Clearly. Seriously, I remember nothing about my two meals there. Not sure if that says something about me or the food.
  15. Oh Good Lord. Don't we have enough "restaurant as entertainment" venues already? 700? I shudder to think what the food is going to be like at that scale.
  16. Thanks for bringing this up - I was about to post a similar question.
  17. OK, I understand where you're going and I agree. I think marlowe's scenario is right on: It appears that individuals want to make as much money as possible, and to keep as much of it as they can. that's where the problem lies - almost no one thinks beyond this part. It's an uphill battle getting people to look past their own pocketbooks, for a variety of reasons - corporations know that and exploit it.
  18. Thanks for the great suggestions Joe - Tabard Inn is a good choice. I have dined at Nora but not in many years so it might be time for another visit. Dupont Circle is a wonderful neighborhood - we lived there when we met, and still think of it as our place despite relocating to the 'burbs 7 years ago.
  19. Without Wal-Mart's labor practices influencing other corporations, these people might be earning enough money so that they don't have to choose between food and bus fare. But until they earn enough, they are stuck making such choices. It's a vicious circle. I wasn't speaking of Wal-Mart employees.
  20. True, but those costs can be hidden as opposed to the immediate "savings" at the cash register. For those living paycheck to paycheck, saving an extra few cents per item means bus fare to get to work. Yes we should all think about the future but there are some who don't have the luxury, especially in small towns where the shopping choices are few.
  21. Take out last year's issue and a magic marker. Over the "4" on the cover write "5". Do I get a cut of the money that you've saved? Too late, I already wasted the $$. Actually, they always make a big deal out of the what's new and what's been cut. What doesn't change is the lack of anything interesting to say.
  22. Zaytinyah is a good choice, but we've been there several times, and part of our plan for the weekend is a fresh look at our fair city. That said, there are 2 exhibits we're hoping to catch at the NGA that weekend. Komi is a good suggestion for Fri. Wonder if they're on opentable.com...
  23. Anyone seen it yet? I don't know why I waste the $5 every year on this issue. No insights to be had out of the whole list. Same old same old again this year - though the favorable "review" of Cafe Spice was amusing in light of the discussion here.
  24. We're leaving the kids with my mom and have booked a room at the Westin Embassy Row for the weekend of 6/17-19. In addition to sleeping in and ordering room service for breakfast we have a goal of eating several good meals. Dinner on Saturday night will be at Corduroy, and Friday we will probably hit Firefly for drinks. Citronelle would be an obvious choice but we're saving that for my birthday in July. We're considering several options for Friday dinner, Saturday lunch, and Sunday brunch - among them 2 Amy's for lunch and BdC for brunch. We will have a car, but would prefer to cab, metro or stumble back to the hotel. Any other suggestions? (Not food related but worth mentioning: I booked the hotel through hotwire.com. What an incredible bargain.)
  25. We have a reservation for 6/18 to celebrate Scott's birthday. Is it likely that softshells will still be available? I'm not recalling how long the season lasts.
