  1. i've just embarrassed myself in front of the whole office by doing a victory dance by the fax machine. lord. i may have to resign. el bulli have just faxed with a reservation on the very day i wanted. so that's lovely.
  2. thank you, thank you, thank you. i knew egullet would help. the recipe was from "food and travel" magazine. the description was really short and i remembered thinking it seemed odd there was no water in it. it's a great magazine, but they push all the recipes to the end and it's more about nice photos...i guess i should have checked online instead of throwing it all away. right, round two with your suggestions incorporated this weekend. will report back!
  3. i've just moved to islington...so i'll join in the EC1/N1 recommendations...went to Moro last night and it's just fab. i'll post a review later. why can't all restaurants be like moro?
  4. OK. I've just made some pastry and it has ended up looking like crumbs. I used my magimix and did the following: 1. creamed 175g of butter with 50g of caster sugar 2. added an egg yolk 3. slowly added 270g of plain flour the recipe said not to overwork the pastry and it wasn't balling together (as suggested in the recipe) i kind of squidged it together and popped it into the fridge. It wouldn't really roll out and when i did get it to roll out, it was impossible to lift up and line the tin. So what did I do wrong? Please tell me there was something wrong with the recipe. I've never had any problems before.
  5. I think Cambridge is a terrible, terrible town to eat out in. And everywhere is closed on a Monday. (why? why?) However... There is a place called the Three Horseshoes. It's in Madingley though. It's quite good. Try 01954 210 221 If you could go any other night I'd suggest 22 Chesterton Road. I have had some really great meals there (but admittedly it was a couple of years ago) The chef is still the same and friends still go there...their number is 01223 351 880 (the restaurants, not my friends) And there's always Pink Geranium. Again, allergic to Mondays though. Other than that I'm a bit stumped.
  6. I've heard nothing either. I emailed and faxed (but the fax was engaged almost all day) I basically said I'd like to come on this date (which foolishly I've now realised is Easter Sunday....) but said I am at your mercy 10 days either way... I would think they speak Catalan and Spanish. Did anyone see the review in the times saturday magazine last week? Interesting that they saved a review from last year and published it last week.
  7. cabrales, i was hoping to turn the trip into a bit of a spanish culinary tour and was planning to go there as well..but i'm loathe to book anywhere until i have booked el bulli. do you know what you have to do to book con fabes? jump through a burning hoop of fire? paint yourself green? :-)
  8. they open in april and are open every evening except monday and tuesday for three months. they are then open for another three months, dinner every evening. they don't open for lunch at all. i got this info from their website... they also have the distinction of having one of the most horrible websites i have ever seen.

  11. I'm planning a trip in April to Spain, specifically to eat at El Bulli for my boyfriend's birthday. I understand that reservations open in january... It has been suggested that emailing them is the prefered method of getting a reservation. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Am I right in thinking that bulli@elbulli.com is the correct address? If it is, does anyone know what the liklihood of getting my preferred date is and how long it is before they'll confirm the reservation? Hints and tips gratefully received... Tarka
