  1. I read a coupla weeks ago that Greek Delights is now closed because the owner was found shot to death in his car!
  2. Sorrentos in Lodi, Vita Mia (Sunday only cannolis), another place down the block on Harrison, Cafe Dolce? on Lafayette in Hawthorne has great pastry too. Roses in Saddle Brook.
  3. Taos is nearby on Paterson Ave in East Rutherford, Cafe Capri and the Fiesta Hut on Park. Then there are the others: Village Gourmet, Tina Louise, Martini Grill, Steve & Andreas, Cafe Matisse (BYO) all within a coupla miles to the stadium.
  4. Heard they got $500K for their liquor license, sold the bldg. to Chilis for $1.5MM
  5. I'll also throw in the Reservoir Tavern in Parsippany. Great pizza, great lunches, cheap, good food, get there early or later afternoon.
  6. I've not been but heard raves about Nino's on Harrison Ave in Garfield and I like Rose's in Garfield as well. Good heroes too. Try the #10.
  7. I was surprised to see this post about Ito En tea. Just Monday night I ate at a restaurant called "KAI" on Madison Ave & 68th St. which is within the Ito En store on the 2d. floor. Only 8 tables at best & a "sushi" bar serving Mishimaya steak at $75/12oz. There wasa small display of loose tea in the store & for the rent they must pay I couldn't figure out how they money or maybe that's not the point. On the way out they gave us a gift bag of 2 btls of Ito En ice tea!

    Pal's Cabin

I stopped last week on Main Ave. Paterson just down from St. Joes Hosp & had a delicious chicken schwarma fully dressed & a diet coke for $4 total. It was a butcher/sandwich shop. Lots 'a lamb. I'll get you the name (Ali something). It was across the street from Fatalla Bakery.
  9. I went there with some friends about 3 months ago. dennis, the chef owner, came from Borellis on Rt 3 E in Secaucus. He does a mean app. of jumbo shrimp wrapped in proscuito, broiled & served on a bed of broccoli rape on top of a garlic bread crouton. The some little necks broiled & topped with lump crabmeat. The bonus for all you cigar afficionados is that you can smoke at the bar and at the tables in the front room.

    Pal's Cabin

I have eaten there twice and sat at the counter each time. The burger was good, the grilled reuben, so-so, but the service was S.L.O.W. I mean I'm at the counter and I can see into the open kitchen, plenty of "cooks" standing around and very little activity. Not the place if you want to have a quick lunch.
  11. Mayhaw Man: My exact sentiments! Food takes a backseat during the Fest! I'm leaving today. See you on line. There are much better places than the overated Ugis

    TAOS

I've eaten at TAOS (open about 3 weeks) a couple of times at the bar. It's part of the village restaurant group that owns the Village Gourmet, Tina Louise & Mignon. It's on Paterson Ave near Jerry's. It's an interesting place where the bar lounge is actually nicer than the rear dining room. It has a large & visible wine cellar in front but right now they are poushinbg their "$20/bottle" wine list. Have not seen any other list but then again I have not asked for it. Have had the tuna trio which consists of tuna tartare, sashimi & seared for $9.95. Not bad considering the price. The crab cake app was good as well. Recently had the General Toas Chicken that was moist, not too sweet & tpped with a whole roasted long hot pepper. The braised short ribs were pretty good as well. I'm going back for more so will let you all know what else is tasty. Zeman
  15. I like the Steuyertown Bakery off Bloomfiedld Ave in the strip mall where Romance Emporium used to be, which is now a Dress Barn. They make a crumb cake as good as B & W in Hackensack.
  16. I've been to many (Gotham, Babbo, GT) and really prefer to eat at the bar. Which restaurants have the best food, service & ambiance?
  17. Only on Sunday's does Vitamia make cannolis. Also there's another pastry/bakery right of Harrison ave in Lodi about 2 blocks from Vitamia's that has some tasty pastry. Rosa's in Saddle Brook is another place touted by my favorite espresso house in Rutherford that I've been meaning to get to. On a side note: Steuyertowne Bakery of Bloomfield Ave in Clifton makes an awesome crumb cake equal to B & W and many other German style baked goods. Try it you'll like it!
  18. I had lunch there about 2 years ago and have wanted to go back ever since.
  19. Ok. I'm definitely behind the curve in this one and am a late entry for 2-4. Will let you know later. Thanks
  20. My money's on the Fat Guy
  21. I'll check with my parents who have live there for almost 50 yrs. & let you know.
  22. Oh baby I can see this dinner thing becoming a regular event! Thanks Lou for a great night and next time I'm bringing a designated driver. The menu, wine, food, service and our dinner companions were all just right. My favorite dish was the serrano wrapped prawns and I wish I took my steak home, but then again I am headed to New Orleans for the next eight days. Favorite wines were the Stemmler and Dr. Loosen. OK Rosie, I'm already thinking about where and when to have the next one. Lou: you and your staff are a class act. My hat's off to all. Let's hear it for the chef!!
  23. Well folks I'm leaving Friday morning and staying thru the 1st of May. Can't wait!!
  24. Please don't change the short rib raviolis. I'm dying to taste them & I'm a solid vote for the rib eye. I'll drink my desert!
