  1. Thanks Stuart. Green grass it is then! Had a few glasses of the 2003 SB last night. Keep up the great work.
  2. Hey where did you get that picture of me?
  3. Okay. I'm too big to cross dress. So it's not going to be a problem. My foliage that is. May tie a sweater on my shoulders though.
  4. So shelora please elaborate. Does the place blow?
  5. This is cool because Villa Maria's Sauvignon Blanc is one of my current white wine favorites. Here in B.C. it retails for just under $20.00 cdn. The one characteristic I really get from the nose is asparagus. I really like it. In the past that would be an insult to a wine does Stuart feel that way? I also get grass and lemon, but really like the asparagus component to the wine. I am a big fan of the Stelvin closure, it's great for re-closing and returning to the fridge. Can Stuart explain the difference between the Stelvin closing and a regular screw top?
  6. Only one from Toronto! I smell a western bias. First Celine Dion at YVR, now this. My congrats to the people at Cru, very deserving.
  7. I believe I will go with the classic black dress and pearls. Hard to pull off on a big man though. I hope everyone comes casual. I suspect there will be black leather blazers in the crowd as an hommage to Mr B.
  8. I echo this threads comments on Cobb's. Bread for the masses. as for the Westview Bakery i as very dissapointed when I went there. Even the pao de Casa seemed different then what they sell at The Santa Barbara. So I will continue to buy it on The Drive. Terra Bread is pretty good especially the fig and anise. It just seems a bit gimmiky.
  9. Thank's Tighe. I knew there was a good reason to share our vaccine with our nieghbours to the south.
  10. Believe me I ate there once (Elixer) and hated it, worst meal of 2002 next to one I had at Brix. I was just curious if we are on foot or sitting during the event.
  11. BTW are we being fed at The Opus event?
  12. My current favorite is the Pao de Casa at Westview Bakery in North Van. Actually the best place to get it is at the Santa Barbara market on Commercial. In the 90's Costco used to have a large dense bread that came in huge loafs. It was remicent of the Poullaine bread at the Urban Fair. Of course the only one who seemed to buy it was me.
  13. I actually did have the urge earlier today. Hey Shelora are you using me? Are you using me to help you pimp these bi-valves?
  14. They have such clams at The lobster man on GI. They actually have them in stock at this time $4.99 a lb. http://www.lobsterman.com/
  15. I have heard of a place on Kingsway near Rupert called Italian Pho. Just a name though it's alledgedly 100% Vietnamese.
  16. Perhaps he is a great ramen master and a bad businessman. Charge more then $6.95. No doubleheader will happen for me, was so full after lunch yesterday could barely hit golf balls 2 hours later.
  17. Where is Zakkushi? Had lunch at Kintaro yesterday. Never been to Japan but this place seems pretty real. I have been half a dozen times and have always been only non Asian. Had the Kim Chi yesterday with my very rich miso and ramen. Very intense flavours.
  18. I have learnt how hard it is to put my thoughts into words. at least coherently. I have also realised that some words are very hard to spell. I have also learnt that with this constant discussion of food and wine it is very hard to stay in shape.

    '97 Merlot

Oddly enough I have always found drinking to be the best way to use wine. Use it de-glaze a pan.

    Wine Help on Short Notice

Good $9.00 Brunello, 2 Buck Chuck wins taste off with $30.00 bottle, BC wine scores 99. This just proves that all of us that enjoy fine wines are just a bunch of pompous phoneys! Damn I could have saved all that money. I geuss the joke is on me!
  21. Welcome Bills. Well said.
  22. This was the second story on CBS radio news this morning. Please keep us posted.
  23. Can I get the address of this Toshi's? We need somewhere for an early dinner on Saturday.

    Castello Banfi tasting

Banfi's Brunellos seem to be a sort of benchmark in good vintages. It's like Frescobaldi's Nippazano Riserva. They make so much of both of these wines. The rest of thier line up is kind of underwhelming. With so much income coming from these two wines they should be able to branch off with other brilliant wines. I am kind of depressed to think I'll have to wait so long for my 6 bottles of 99 Brunello to be ready. I wonder how long for the Poggio alle Mura?
  25. I'm sure we will see it in a year or two. Now if it were Christine Cushing or Sandi Richard.........oh never mind.
