  1. Try "A taste of Reality", a deli in Kinnelon. Definately off the beaten track but well worth the trip for the most excellent sandwiches.
  2. Anyone been to Bice in West Orange? Comments? Recommendations?
  3. Unfortunately there is a sad FYI on this story. Catherine Bordeaux passed away a few weeks ago after a short struggle with cancer. There is another recent post with her Star-ledger obituary.
  4. Jason, I'll be there on Sunday diggin' into crawfish, jambalaya and etouffee. Look for recipes and story in next Wednesday's Ledger. It's a great time; rockin' music and mountains of food!
  5. Actually, I was referring to Asbel. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well, but sorry things didn't work out at IM. Keep us posted on your whereabouts, especially if you cross back over the river.
  6. What a shame. The Iron Monkey was one of JC's best. I thought they'd completed the rooftop already. I'd love to know where their chef landed, because he is true talent in the kitchen.

    Shad Fest

Here's the roe recipe. Shad Roe with Vidalia Onion and Bacon Adapted from Lynn and Bob Willis, 49 North Main 2 servings 1 pair, 8-ounce shad roe ¼ cup flour salt and pepper, to taste 3 tablespoons olive oil 1 tablespoon butter ½ vidalia onion, cut into rings 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled mixed greens 1. Dredge the roe in flour that has been seasoned with the salt and pepper. 2. Heat the oil and butter in a sauté pan set over moderately high heat. Sear the roe for about 1 ½ minutes per side, until golden brown. Be careful not to break the sac, as this will release the eggs. Garnish with sliced raw vidalia onion and crisp crumbled bacon. Serve over mixed greens dressed with a simple lemon vinaigrette.

The Ebbitt Room and 410 Bank Street will not dissappoint you. Hit The Mad Batter for breakfast, nothing more decadent than Crabmeat Benedict in the am.

    Shad Fest

Busboy, I wrote the story in yesterday's Ledger and included a roe recipe from 49 North Main. The trick is to be gentle so as not to burst the sac and cook just until warmed through for roe that is tender and not tough. They use a combination of butter and oil.
  10. It's a little out of your territory, but Arthur's Landing in Weehawken is doing Easter brunch for $29. Right on the Hudson at Port Imperial - you can't beat the view, and the food is great.
  11. Have you had any luck with your cheesecake search? There's a great book, "125 Cheesecake Recipes" by George Geary that you may find inspiring. You don't happen to be from NJ? I am a journalist preparing a story for a NJ newspaper on cheesecake, and would love to interview someone local on the subject.
  12. Does anyone have any recommendations for dining waterside? It could be on the ocean, bay, river or lake, indoors with merely a view, or on a deck or patio in the warmer weather.
  13. Rosie, Being a Spartan and fellow food writer, I'm anxious to try Zoe's. Glad to have your recommendation. I've been to all the incarnations of this out of the way eatery and always thought someone with real culinary skills could turn it into a one-of-a-kind spot. By the way, negotiations are well under way to turn the meadow back into the beautiful lake that it once was. Suzanne

    Ethnic Delis

Yes, I think Jack Cooper's is great, too! I'll look into Polish in Bayonne. Thanks for your help, Rosie.
  15. Anyone have a favorite ethnic deli, Jewish, Italian, Polish, German, etc.
  16. Any recommendations on places to have Sunday brunch in Central NJ. Preferably north central, as opposed to south and anything out of the ordinary would be great.
