Eureka!! NY Times, Feb 2005. Add to this the increase in liquor license applications, and the evidence is stacking up...
-
personally i'd like that law reversed. literally. ← There are a couple of beaches in Italy where this is probably true... Do you prefer the Adriatic or the Mediterranean?
-
How haughty. What if it's the only job easily available to you, and you have to feed your family? Is unemployment or welfare the other "choice"? What makes you think jobs are so easy to come by?

I'll defer to the above poster that mentions that statistics can be skewed to the benefit of both sides of an argument; however, NYC liquor license applications are up, and I found a couple of little amusing blurbs here: http://www.postcrescent.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...50506/0/APCnews http://events.nytimes.com/2005/12/14/dinin...6e4de14&ei=5070

The ban will happen. The legislature has been gearing up for this for 2 years. This type of ban is in effect in several states, New York City, over 200 municipalities, not to mention the entire countries of Ireland and Italy. However, let us be prepared for the usual smokers' diatribes about freedom of speech, the bars saying that they will not be able to exist, and all the other tired arguments that were used in all the other places before this had become law. And the bars continue to thrive (Just look at New York City) and business is still good, and most of us can all breathe much more easily inside. I can hear the bars and smokers complaining already!!

My amateur legal opinion is that the Judge would throw this lawsuit right out of court. Something like a Paparazzi photo. The restaurant would have to prove "Harrassment". I hope the guy posts the photos!!

I've never seen an exit for Rt. 46 from Rte 80; (They run parallel to each other). I might opt for getting off the GSP North at 157 which should put you right on 46 East; you will still have to make a U turn as described above, though.

Someone posed a very similar question here a couple of months ago. (Can't locate the thread). The problem is that the "Non-stop" (That's what the French call it!) type places are mostly forgettable and very touristy. 7-7:30 are the typical earliest opening times of any decent restaurant in Paris. I did suggest on the other thread, that you might go to the branch of Brasserie Flo at Charles de Gaulle; It won't be spectacular, but certainly better and more authentic than any "non-stop". It is located in Terminal 2F, near Door A. There is also a Brasserie Flo in Printemps, just 2 blocks from Galeries Lafayette (and may also be a part of your shopping) but they CLOSE at 7:30. If, as John suggested above, you wil be near Gare du Nord, Terminus Nord is also in the Brasserie Flo group, and serves all day. But I would opt for the CDG option, you won't have to look at your watch while eating dinner s much. You could also, of course, decide to stay overnight and catch a morning flight-- then you would have the full choice of hundreds of great restaurants--

Funny, I've never heard it said in theis country that "You can't say that because you are not a Journalist". You are mixing up journalistic privilege, such as, say, in Sports locker rooms only journalists are allowed, with Free speech. A journalist has no more right to print surreptitiously obtained photos in his newspaper than does a non-journalist on his blog. How about some legal eagles chinming in on this?
-
Sounds to me like a judge might just laugh at this type of lawsuit and throw the thing out right away. But, interestingly, the legal pros that frequent this site have been mysteriously silent on this topic...
-
The First Amendment covers ANY person, there is no requirement to be a journalist!! Very doubtful that this is anything the Supreme Court would get involved with. Besides, a blogger is a type of journalist, anyway...

Many Television Stations and other media use hidden cameras to do exposé news reports all the time. These media outlets have a giant staff of attorneys. How is it OK for them to do that, and not OK for someone to take photos of food and post on a personal blog? N.B. In Paris, in front of artisan crafts and design shops, if you try to take photos of their window displays, they will rush out and ask that you not take photos. But that's a request, I suppose to protect their designs. (?)

Let me get this straight, you made reservations at 3 different places on one of the busiest nights of the year. Even with the courtesy of canceling you fail to give the other restaurants time to rebook. I don't mean to be disrespectful but I think that's lousy. Restaurants plan NY Eve for weeks, confirm, plan menus based on how many people we have booked and then order food based on how many we have reservations. Give that a little thought next time a holiday comes around. ← I agree, it's pretty smarmy to schedule 3 restaurants and then choose among them. I can't blame a restaurant for backing up a res with a credit card becuase of behavior like this. Inconsiderate, and it affects the restaurant AND the other would-be diners!

We've turned a legal question into an ethical discussion... More to the point of the original poster, I am waiting to learn if the person posting their personal photos from inside a restaurant can possibly be a loser in a lawsuit-- what laws would they have broken, and how is that any different from the stuff the Paparazzi do every day?
-
Well, you would might go for Iron Horse in Westwood, although I think the place is old and smelly. But they still fill the place up almost 7 nights a week, somehow...

OK, so lots of folks LOVED this place, but has no one been back since March of '05? It seems that a great deal of these places in NJ have these "Supernova" events, and then burn out quickly. Maybe the person who started this post (seems like he IS a shill) could explain. Anyone been to Rocca recently?
-
After all the initial fanfare, haven't heard 'nary a word about this place in 18 months... Anyone been recently? Is it still as good as it sounded so long ago?

One of the better "joints" I've found in this area is the River Club, on the water in Nyack. A really nice homey nautical room, built right out on a terrace over the water. Highlight is the rowboat suspended from the ceiling reading "Ocean Grove, NJ" Very good heat in the room at this time of year, in better weather they open it all up. Nice eclectic menu. Lots of burgers, omelets, seafood, sandwiches, salads. Good for a meal or a pick me up. Good wines by the glass as well. Just a nice homey place for a less serious meal. Very friendly staff. Whole Foods, Couscous in bulk, $1.99/lb. Hardly worth all the energy to traipse all over the place using up gasoline to save 20c/lb. WF in Montclair or Millburn, whichever is closer to you...
-
WF and Trader Joes are close to Rittenhouse, also. Whole Foods, 20th and Callowhill Streets and 929 South St. Trader Joe's, 2121 Market St. BTW, Zabar's has no butcher nor seafood counter, either. And, yes, New York is unique, but so is Philly-- the Raading Market is unique, as are the left turns on red, and the preserved historical buildings and neighborhoods. None of that in NY.

Well, there are still about 200 restaurants within a 6 block radius of the Caron... One of the more unusual standouts for me in this quartier is Amadeo, 19, rue Francois Miron, about 2 blocks from the hotel. Aside from having lovely bistro food and great ambience, they have a 1/2 price prix-fixe on Tuesday evenings. But the real event is live opera singers and/or classical concerts while you dine, varying schedules, call the restaurant for the schedule. A really unique experience, and quite enjoyable. The 4th Arr. is chock full of good restaurants. If you could narrow down your parameters a bit, I could offer a few choices. Lunch, dinner, high end, bistro, snack, cafe, what are you looking for? Just for starters, my favorite place in the 4th is Le Dome du Marais, 53 rue des Francs-Bourgeois. A stunning space in an old chapel, try for the room with the giant glass skylight, it's wonderful. Food is creative and flavorful. A lovely experience, price approx 50-60E PP with wine.

Well, there's nothing like Zabar's anywhere else. Quite a store. But here's the good news: Di Bruno's, after a zillion years in the Italian Market section of South 9th, has opened a satellite store near Rittenhouse Square. 1730 Chestnut Street, a terrific Italianspecialty/gourmet/cheese/meats/Salumeria-type store. Open 7 Days. Web Site: http://www.dibruno.com/contact.html However, if you are specifically looking for a Zabar's smoked fish-type experience, you'll just have to wait until you get back to NY!

Yes, New York has the pastrami, but you have to go to Maryland for good crabs. (April-Sept).

Je vous en prie!! Oui, c'était une discussion très intérressante!!
