A leftover medium rare hamburger patty, eaten from fingers. Yum. Lots of joe.

Ok, I'll bite. What are Chupa-Cups. Exotic Southern Delicacy?

In the distant days when I actually had a job....watermelon and green apple Jolly Ranchers were the two items I always had in the bottom drawer...

Oh no you won't! House Rule: Guests don't do dishes! ( The only exception is my father.)

Get out of ICU and report. Really.

It truly pains me to announce the official cut-off of this contest, terrible as the entries were--- as bad as that bean dip that was left in the sun for five days, as putrid as the eggs that got thrown at me when I suggested Seagram's was the best gin for martinis, as foul as the rep chicken breast has around here, as stinky as lutefisk on Christmas Eve. But closed it is, as far as official entries go. Feel free to continue to post 'em here, for Art's Sake. And check out the new competition later tonight. Thanks.

Ahhh..can you be referring to "Sabrina" here? How I adored the Baron. -
Funny...I never care about the stack of dishes too much if my eG friends have contributed to producing it. I'm convinced I've gained three pounds tonight (The Stephanie Plum waistband test) but y'know? Tomorrow is another day. And I received insights like: er, the private life of Pierre Boulez and what a Wedgie is. (Thanks, Fresser...and no, my husband isn't jealous.) Here in the Heartland hosting a party means that you won't have to buy or cook any food for a week, such is the generosity of your guests. My devilled eggs went down fast...thank you Sparrowgrass, the eGull from MO I've never met, but who still managed to send me beautiful eggs from her henhouse. Egg yolks are orange? Go figure. I know I'm going to overlook and forget some contributions, so forgive me folks. You brought so much Great Stuff. The ineffable Lady T. brought , in addition to two pans of the best cornbread I've ever eaten (Yellow cornmeal rocks!) and her sparkling wit, three bottles of the Lindeman's Bin 65 Char, whcih is a great pairing with gumbo if your friends don't suck it up before dinner! She also brought a terrific Beaujolais...can't remember the name and I've too tired to pick through the recycle bin. Plus, an assortment of hot sauces and file powder. Guajolote is his own personal answer to World Hunger. I gave him some devilled eggs, some gumbo and a piece of cake. He contributed: A gorgeous bouquet of lilies. Beet salad. Beet greens...yum. Pickled mushrooms. Crab claws! A bag of snap peas I'm saving for myself. Luscious cherries. What else, Dean? Aurora, the Mod with the Mostest, brought the biggest pan of Dirty Rice I've ever seen. Three ham hocks. And, in her Goddesslike train, the two most delightful five year old boys I've ever met. Charming lads. And the Fresser! Two loaves of delicious bread (love the sauerkraut loaf! And being a University of Chicago dude and all, he could give me both the theory and the practice of Wedgies! To have lived this long and not known about Wedgies... I've led a sheltered life. Wish you all could have been here. You could actually come en masse , I have so much delicious leftover food. Off to grab a handful of cherries....

Mes amis: Does anyone need directions? I think you all have my phone number...if not , shoot me a PM. I will be meting Sue at the station unless I hear from Fress. Off to make buttercream. Manana.

Yes, it is! Thank you.

Yes! And the joys, as you say. are myriad. Balzac is a completely modern writer. The last couple of weeks? The Apprentice, Bobby Gold , (yes, I cried) The Death of a Doxy and The Nero Wolfe Cookbook , reasearch for an upcoming piece. Reading Rex Stout is very pleasant research.

Toliver: Welcome to eGullet, and what a great first post. Also, thank you for resurrecting this thread and reminding me that I still haven't made CFS. Corn flake crumbs rock...hmmm, I actually have corn flakes in the house. Maybe CFS is coming up in the rotation. Ah, yes, Swiss Steak. A big night in our house when I was growing up. fifi: That totally sucks.

Well..why not get with Lady T, and bring her too? Fress...You chose...all three are good with me! Or, if you like, just bring some good crusty bread. Nerissa:

Refer to my above-mentioned round heels. No problem.
-
Archie: Dunno, Buddy. Maybe: For clarity: half inch strips? But I'm a sucker for poetry, so I prefer the curls. Dean: Vase is ready. Thanks for the warning, oh Perfect Guest. (No way am I going to have everything weedfree by tomorrow.)
-
Lady T! You're back on with the file powder! Thanks.
-
Gotcha. Dave was being Poetic.
-
Archie, I was with you all the way, until this. 1/2" Curls? Were you being poetic describing the appearance of the red pepper cut in short thin strips or do you actually curl them, a la carrot curls?
-
You go, Girl! Actually..no need for the file. But heck, I always like to see other peoples' taste in hot sauce, so go ahead. Thanks, BTW.
-
I'm easy. As it were. That's what I'VE heard anyway. Oops. Shit, they know about me in Texas!

The gauche loveliness... This is so perfect it took my breath away. And made me , yes, Laugh Out Loud. (Big family contingent in Toronto.) You're a poet and you don't know it. (I'm a Montreal Girl myself.) Gauche loveliness: Beautiful. And oh, so Torontonian.

I think you forgot jammies on the list (as in PJ's). D'oh! Thanks, Susan. Guys, bring jammies as required. (Takes a Mother to remember this stuff!)
-
So: Dean: Pickled mushrooms and beet salad Dawn: Beans and rice Sue: Cornbread et vin. Nerissa: I've plumb forgot...wine, maybe? Dave: Crawfish and Spanish red Fresser: Transportation and....a couple of good crusty loaves, perhaps? A starter? Please: PM me if there are Transportation issues. We can work it out. Think of this, my eGulls: Devilled Eggs from Sparrowgrass's henhouse!
