*now* we're talking sauces. i know it's pedestrian at this point, but i go through an awful lot of srirachi. usually on sausage and french fries.

a bartender at le pont de la tour in london introduced me to this stuff a bunch of years ago. i thought it was one of the most unique drinks i'd ever had (cucumber, mint, lemonade). we smuggled 2 bottles home, thinking it wasn't available in the states. the next time i visited my local liquor store i asked the guy about it, and he said "yeah, i think we have a bunch of bottles down on the bottom shelf over there. no one *ever* asks for that stuff". turns out it would have been cheaper to just buy it at home. every summer we threaten to break out some Pimm's, but without that english lemonade stuff, i've found it just doesn't turn out right.

What Your Favorite Condiment Reveals About You

survey says!: out of 1000 people, the vast majority will list one of those that we read about as their favorite. for all of those sauces that most people have never heard of, perhaps a poll on egullet would be in order. -

i'm in the risk-loving group of condiment users. -
We had a long thread on that, though I'm not up to searching for it right now... i don't know which would be worse: digging up the thread, or *not* digging up the thread.
-
but then what fun would that be?
-
i think you'll find that most people don't agree with you on that one. you know *all* of the details!

the number of new posters raving about this restaurant is reaching epic proportions. one would think it's the only restaurant that members of egullet have ever praised.

one of the reasons Landmarc stands out in my mind is that i've gotten a friendly and warm greeting from day 1. although a they've slipped up a few times, every neighborhood needs a Landmarc, especially with wine prices like that.

if you haven't had oysters at the Oyster Bar, then yeah, probably, some might say that.
-
generous you are. you're on the guest list to the next party. the one where i invite all of my internet friends, including ant-nee, who never seems to invite me to dinner, even though he drives 50 minutes every weekend to eat 1 minute from my house. that bastard. you bastard. ok, i've worked it all out.
-
what can i say. it was a family thing. i'm looking forward to the next blow-out at C46, but given my well-documented protection of my private life, you shouldn't be surprised...although now i think i have to kill fink, as he knows where i live.
-
yes you will. and any additional discussion of the "other c46" should be considered irrelevant and off-topic and hopefully will be deleted or moved from this thread.

I don't get around all that much - but I don't recall ever seeing a "pre-opened" oyster. You mean they were all open already - and then served to you? Sounds yucky to me. When you order shellfish (clams - oysters - whatever) - you want them live - tight shells - opened immediately before serving. I don't think you're being picky at all. Robyn even the Oyster Bar, in that horrible place called "new york city", shucks nonstop during busy hours, and you'll get "pre-shucked". strange to some, but true. shocker, i'm sure.

they'll do it only if i'm invited. it was for 30, even though i expected 50. and because of that NJ rain last weekend, 30 showed up. i bet fink would travel, and i bet he'll respond. but damn, yes, it's all well worth it. i love cooking for groups, but this made it *soooo* much easier. oh man, i can't say enough about catering, fink's specifically. this is the second year in a row he's totally pulled through for me, which allowed me to drink beer and wine and water without worrying about silly details or dishes or garbage. rachel, that's the baldness setting in. wiseass. and i got beat with the Bananar Republic stick. no, i'm not thrilled, but i'm told it's "slimming", so i'll roll with it. (tent was rented from Danco - (973) 423-9124 - to keep the sun off the old folks, although i thought it would have to keep the rain off the only folk...but the food was dry with fink's help). i'll add that Danco has been a very good company to work with.

fink and eric (sp?) blew my friends away recently. i ordered one of their standard party menus, and in rolled these two nuts with a huge grill and buckets of food. they had the whole setup up and running within minutes. me: "hey guys, i thought you could set up in this little corner". eric: "huh, how about over here where's there's a lot more room, we got a lot of stuff". me: "why don't you guys back the trucks up right over here somewhere. yeah, that'd be great. yeah." ..."and i don't like the way you're looking at my food" there wasn't much in this shot, but there was a lot. i've been doing ribs and pulled pork for my friends for a while now, and up until that day, they thought i ruled. from that day on, they knew otherwise: fink rules. people talked about the food for days. i can't say enough about fink and eric. not only did they bring excellent food, and heat, but fink abused my guests, which was just perfect. line of the day: one of my friends has a smart comment directed towards fink, and fink comes back, all dead-pan like fink is wont to do, with "well i don't like the way you're looking at my food". i wish i could remember what my butthead friend said, but it almost doesn't matter. humor and abuse, apparently, comes with the package when fink caters your party. highly recommended, by tommy.

please go to China 46 and forget the "other" C46 ever existed. the best thing about chengdu 46, imo, is that it's close to Pub 46, where you can drink beers and watch bad cover bands. and that's not saying very much. lap dog, tommy

me and you both. but then i thought, "why the f*ck". nice article. nj.com's forums? please.

cpalms, thanks for the heads up. i've been trying to figure out where Reds is. i think i know it as something else from the old days.
-
thanks sabq. as i sit here thinking, i'm definitely leaning towards not going anywhere that might lean towards "fine dining", as i can eat like that any time when i'm not in PPB. but then again, it's not as though there's anything inherently "local" in PPB, including, imo, seafood, so what is left? if this shipwreck place has some casual outdoor seating where i can get some decent oysters, steamers, a glass of white wine or a cold beer, it might just do the trick. yes, i think i'd like to be outside, casual, just kinda sitting around picking at some food. Foy is definitely out (unless his new steakhouse has outdoor seating).

my vote is BLT, since, you know, that's kinda like "ABC". and it's private-clubby. wolfgangs not so much. V i'm not sure about but guessing not as much as BLT

anyone been to the Shipwreck in Brielle? looks halfway decent.
