i've got some good news and some bad news. the bad news is that i can't make it. the good news is that i can't make it. sorry for the late notice. and i hope i haven't caused anyone any emotional trauma or anything like that.

mmmmm. beefshake.

and the use of non-english words for foods that have a perfectly good english word all set up already and ready to use is a bit strange as well. probably done for the same reasons.

ok, it ain't no Lupa. please don't show up expecting as much. BUT, the FOH staff is trying real hard (and doing a great job), and the chef ain't no fool. excellent scallops tonight. a beat beet salad (i didn't "get" it). and pasta with cinghiale. you don't get cinghiale in these parts too much. and yes, it was good, and it was 14 bucks for that pasta dish. i'm looking forward to returning. so far, so good: this is one of the better restaurants in the area, and perhaps the best italian-influenced restaurant this side of Fascino. ladies and gentlemen, we may have a real winner on our hands. and you heard it from me. but "what does tommy know anyway". oh, and yes, smoramarco seems to be a shill. (edit to add emoticon) (edit: too late!)

steakas, how do you make pizza at home? fresh tomatoes? perhaps. how do your favorite places make pizza? frresh tomatoes? i'm guessing not. kinchley's isn't for everyone. it's a "bar pie", as has been suggested. but writing it off because of its ingredients suggests that the point is being missed. but, a lot of other places do the same style of pie. including Star Tavern, and that Pub in Bloomfield. it's alllll good.

and it's convenient to say for those of us who sound like complete dweebs saying "mozzerella".
-
errr, don't.

i have enormous shoes. and you know what they say about big feet. big socks. yes, it happens quite often, so i assume it's relatively commonplace.

i don't think anyone should sneak anything. that's not very nice. but that's not what this article is about. perhaps they did it with the animal product in the grease for all of those years, and that wasn't very nice at all. but that's not what this article is about. regardless, i'm not going to go to mcdonalds if i'm going to hell if i get some animal fat on my vegetable, especially if i'm feeling particularly litigious. of this you can be assured. maybe it's just me.

good article. i'm amazed that it costs me 10 bucks to get from the front of the hotel to my room, btwn guys opening doors and pulling bags out of cabs and handing them off to someone else and then putting them on dollies and then doing whatever with them. and then i get to my room and have to wait for my bags. i could have done it alone and been changed and out the door already, and used that 10 bucks to buy beer. i'm all tipped out, damnit.

and high top chuck taylors. yo that's how i roll.

but i did state that i think it's ridiculous for a strict vegetarian, religious or not, to eat at mcdonalds and expect a 100% animal free product, consider the environment and process, so i figgered i'd defend it. but that's not what the article is about.
-
i think that vegetarians should eat whatever they want. i also think that someone should let them know that the kitchen in mcdonalds, where their vegetables are coming from, is covered in animal fat and is manned by 16 year kids, and has been since the dawn of time. my comment might be harsh but reflects common sense rather than a lack of compassion.

but i don't want to wear what i'd wear to VG or Fascino. so are you saying it's the same type of atmosphere? no shorts?
-
even if mcdonalds makes sure that there is no beef product in their oil, it still seems ridiculous, as a strict vegetarian, with religious beliefs or not, to eat food from mcdonalds. if it's so important, i wouldn't put too much faith into their process, as there is a margin of error involved. i think that's the point of most of this. but not of the article, apparently.

Ralph's gets a lot of play on egullet. i finally went there mid-afternoon one day for a slice. it was barely just OK. perhaps it's best to go and get a whole pie. i dunno. but that slice was certainly pretty lame. Vertical, the wine bar, is closed until further notice. i believe the owner has a coupla issues he's sorting out. he claims he'll re-open, but you never know in this industry.
-
hey princess, this would probably be a pretty cool introduction to some of the freaks here on egullet. you shouldn't pass up this chance. and ant-nee, what's the answer to my question about acceptable dress?
-
my first thought was that i wouldn't bother considering a steakhouse since there are so many at my fingertips at home. but this sounds like it might be worth a shot for some oysters at lunch. no mention of wine in that review as far as i could tell.

forecast says partly cloudy. in fact friday might be one of the only days in 2 weeks that it won't be raining. what's the atmosphere here? i'm trying to figure out what not to wear.

is "mutz" better?
-
i don't think this particular suit had to do with the fries being "vegetarian safe". at least i didn't get that from the article. from what i read, mcdonald's made a promise and didn't pull through in what some people thought was a reasonable time. so now, they pay. god bless america.

does the monthly nut on a commercial mortgage in that part of NYC differ that much from a lease payment? and then factoring in the downpayment as well (unless there are some investors), i'm wondering if cash flow is greatly affected. the implication, of course, is 'yes', but i'm curious about the differences.
-
you are very good. just not quite as good as me.
-
i'm not sure if they'd even do it for you, but i had some cookies at Tabla a few weeks ago that were just excellent and, to me, really unique.

delicato is some really really really inexpensive wine. i've seen the ads for the boxes, and i've been tempted. but my friends and i bust my friend's father's chops so much for bringing the bottled delicato to every party i have that i can't bring myself to get the box. if someone tells me the wine isn't as horrible as i think i might reconsider. mamster, i think you're just the man test it.
