  1. so what time should i be over for lunch?
  2. tues and wed work for me next week. after that it gets a little dodgy for a while.
  3. sounds good to me.
  4. i saw him handing out coupons at the Burger King on 47th and 3rd.
  5. glenn, sounds like a nice surprise. is there a bar at which i could park my fat self for dinner alone tonight? also, what kind of selection of wines by the glass did they offer? and what's so bad about c-fold towels? are you saying cloth is preferred?
  6. that depends on how much you know about setting up wireless networks. i'm also considering ordering from this new-ish place in Glen Rock that's right next to Bottle King and the Kosher Nosh. it's basically italian and not all that notable, but they do some decent italian-american stuff. BYO. place escapes me, although i think it's called Mangeria's or somesuch.
  7. larb. that's probably the best idea i've read in a while.
  8. but what about those house margaritas? i confess, i go to RM just for those, and i generally get a very interesting buzz from them. i'm not sure why the buzz is different from any other buzz, but it is. and i'm an expert in these matters. i *always* get the alambre a al mexicana, which is skewered beef, chirizo, onions, and i ask for extra grilled serrano chilis. that said, i haven't eaten through even a small fraction of their menu, but i've been enough times with enough people to have a good feel for the place. but if they offered nothing but those margaritas, i'd still go.
  9. can we define "fancy"? probably not, i guess, but in my mind that cuts out a lot of decent restaurants, including the Rocking Horse. i suppose it's all relative though.
  10. ummm, that's a really really good idea.
  11. zarela, for me, has always been a step down from maya and RM, and Mexicana Mama has been an embarrassment all around. this year's zagat is silly.
  12. something i made for lunch this weekend, and something that was inspired by Landmarc in NYC (and no doubt a typical sandwich either way): country style ham (whatever that is...just not boar's head) with melted gruyere, on grilled french bread. Landmarc adds an egg on top, i added chives, both are open face. but i don't see why this couldn't work closed, with more emphasis on the cheese...or less on the ham i suppose.
  13. rosie, is The Restaurant a place where one might dine alone, preferably at a bar? Frank's did nothing to me but make me wish i had my money back. i know i'm in the minority with that assessment, but i trust myself. chefreit, is san vito's a good place for solo-bar-dining? a bit out of the way for me tonight, but it could be an option moving forward.
  14. rosa mexicano, 1st ave location. obvious contender, i would think.
  15. i'm with you on that. i looked for these things forever, and finally stumbled upon them at Party City. i bought about a billion of them. party city locations are all over. there's one on 17, one on rt 3 in clifton, and probably a bunch of others close by. (i don't remember the price, but i didn't think they were all that much...although i'm sure they can be found cheaper elsewhere...like that National Discount Liquidator place in Maywood where 17/80 meet).
  16. that's a lovely list Rosie. but i wanted non-BYOB. went to thai chef last night. i'll look for a thread when i get a chance to post.
  17. i kinda thought you'd be coming up with the ideas for the actual food.
  18. all right folks, you know the routine: it's tuesday. i've got a laptop coming tonight so i want to stay close to home in bergen county so i can get back and play with it. any idea? i've been tempted to follow up on curlz's suggestion of P&O, but that's kinda out of the way. (tried the new Thai Chef in Riverside Square last night, so that's out, although it would have been a good idea. although it wasn't very good)
  19. i think that's brilliant. you might be on to something. if not the name, at least a gimmick of sorts.
  20. 10 minutes folks. help a guy out. c'mon. jeesh.
  21. where does a guy my size stop around this place for beer/wine? you all have about 20 minutes to answer, so make it snappy. best regards, tommy

    Rao's

the sauce is exactly what it needs to be. nothing but decent ingredients, with no crap. i've noticed a lot of "premium" brands hitting the shelves with similar ingredients lists, and the ones i've tried have been good. when it comes down to it, i'd never buy jarred sauce unless it was Rao's or one of these premium brands, so i don't bother comparing the price with the $2 jar of Ragu. that said, even at 8 dollars a bottle, you're still feeding 3 people for 8 dollars + 1.29 for pasta. i can't possibly be bothered by those types of numbers.
  23. rosie, they are open on monday. add it to the list.
  24. still open. Address: 700 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair, NJ 07042 Phone: (973) 746-5699 related to the others in madison and some other place (edit: i see ant-nee answers that above)? if so, those menus are on ardore.com (and i'm still waiting for someone to tell me what the heck that is). they seem to be a jack-of-all-trades, which is a bit scary i guess.
