i stumbled upon this place the other day, in my ongoing quest for a good sub. i was surprised to see that they have pizza as well. and some interesting looking pizzas. one that caught my eye was the "salad pizza." pizza (sans cheese i think) with lettuce, tomato, onion, spices, and a light dressing on top. i didn't try it, but look forward to. 201, have you been here? anyone else?

the article left me with the same feeling, although i hadn't thought of it in those terms until reading your post. it read more like a full-blown review rather than the blurb on the odd coffee shop that i can sometimes be (not that there's anything wrong with that). nicely done. it is sure to get fink some attention. this, of course, is subjective, as i obviously pictured the place and "tasted" the food as i read it. my question is, how long before fink's becomes so popular that i won't be assured a seat!?!?!

we started talking about NJ's ABC laws on the Fink's thread. additionally, there was a thread on BYOB rules. i thought it might be a good idea to have a thread that addresses these different rules. from the Fink's thread: Click here for the ABC's faq page regarding "doggy bag" bottles. my question is, does this apply to *every* place that sells wine by virtue of the type of license one must have in order to sell the wine in the first place? or are there exemptions, the existence of which would no doubt be used by the ignorant manager when telling you that you couldn't take your bottle. it's logical to assume that the ABC rules don't extend to what you do with the bottle after you leave. the fact that you'd take it into your car couldn't possibly be written in to the rules, nor does it seem that they'd want to. i walk to a lot of restaurants.

NJ Monthly this month has a rather flattering review of this place. anyone been?

paul, can you confirm that you can bring your own to finks? also, on a different note, i'm pretty sure that the ABC laws allow a patron to take an unfinished bottle of wine from a restaurant (even if they sold it to you). i had a lenthy discussion with a server and a manager not too long ago, who assured me that this was not allowed. yes, i ended up taking the bottle regardless of their impression of the law.

fried macaroni and cheese with multi twists of fresh ground pepper. comforting.

you shoulda got me five minutes earlier. i would have been there in a flash, but i just had lunch.
-
jeez sandra, we coulda warned you that they don't serve beer! but you can bring your own, i'm sure. i'm looking forward to doing that at some point, as i usually go for breakfast/lunch and generally don't drink at that time of day.

bring lots of money. the place can be as expensive as a good manhattan restaurant (but it's byob).

also, i'm interested in smoking a piece of salmon. i want the smokey flavor on the outside, but i don't want it to "cook" at all. i want the raw texture. any advice on how long, etc??

but only if you have the time and are comfortable.

These things are always very difficult. Especially considering that I don’t do a whole lot of dining in NJ. But a list of places that I returned to again and again might be indicative of something. So here goes: Fink’s – River Edge China 46 – Ridgefield La Carbonaia – HoHokus (now closed) Legal Seafood – Paramus (primarily for oysters and wine in the summer months) Wondee’s – Hackensack. The best thai around. The Chef’s Table – Franklin Lakes. Old-school French, but pretty damned good. Anthony David’s – Hoboken. A welcome addition to that culinary wasteland.

i spent many years (well, "many" compared to my total drinking years) drinking and studying margaritas. while that may not make me an expert, it makes me chubby, bloated, and drunk. that aside, if you're talking about real freshly squeezed lime juice, you are on the right track. enjoy.

dude, as far as i can tell, you were screwed up long before 2001. 201, i *still* hate chinese food, in the form that it's usually served in these here parts. however, the more "authentic" sichuan and shanghai places get me going. i'd like to try some other types as well. does anyone know the different btwn the words "sichuan" and "szechuan"?

marco polo is a notch above the other places in the area. it can't compete with china 46, but china 46 is in a whole nother league. they play a different game, have different rules, and, of course, a much different menu. i had marco polo the other night for the first time in some months, and after, ugh, sampling many chinese places in the area, mrs. tommy and i both confirmed that it was still the best.

what with our high-falutin' locomotives and sewer systems.

CiCi's pizza, on the Pt Pleasant boardwalk, will forever remain in my mind as the best pizza that i've ever eaten. period. i've never had anything else like it.
