    Wine shock at Petrus....

they didn't mention that the restaurant does not carry and has never carried the wine is question? that's puzzling.
  5. there's a BK on 47th off of 3rd.
  6. i agree with rozrapp. i don't recommend ilo to anyone. i've only been twice, but the two experiences were so disparate (very good during the soft opening, horrible during a subsequent visit) that i dare not go back, especially at those tariffs.
  7. i've found their steaks pretty damned good and consistent. it can also be a "fun" place, given the fact that everyone's drinking a lot of wine. service has never been a problem either. would i chose it over other steakhouses in midtown? some yes, others no.
  8. what are you looking for in the meal? i'd save aquavit for a time when you can have a 3 hour leisurely meal and a nap soon afterwards.
  9. i'm not sure where they make the sauces for Jerry's in englewood, but i think they're spot on as far as jarred sauces go.
  10. fg, i'm a little confused. how do you explain the adults, who perhaps know better, or know "what's good and what isn't", who go to fast food places? i suppose you and i fall into that category.
  11. quite frankly, most chinese food that i've come across is at least as disgusting, if not more disgusting, and certainly not as consistent, as fast food. as far as choosing McDonald's or BK over "good hamburgers", well, they aren't really filling the same need. they are different products.
  12. a lot of sandwiches look bad after they're closed and then opened. mine looked just like that, however. i think i read somewhere that ads have to represent the product pretty much as it is in real life. now whether that means they can place bits in strategic spots for the camera, i don't know, although that seems likely.
  13. i haven't see much of a drop off in quality of blue moon's beer, even though they were bought by a huge company (coors?). for you home brewers, this is a fantastic and easy beer to make, and it approaches "cooking" even more than others, as you're messing with coriander and orange peels. remember Wit? that tanked in the early 90's, although it was a belgian style white. i've had some since, and it's not all that horrible. not much unlike blue moon's, in fact.
  14. i suppose i deserved the punishment of eating one as well. thank you may i have another, sir.
  15. what percentage of fast food commercials show actual bite action? What's your yardstick? plain ol' biting. i just watched it in slow mo on Tivo. the part where he eats the thing, not the whole thing. i've never seen such a fast fadeout as the one at the point where this sandwich hits his mouth. it's probably a 2 frame fade, or something technical-sounding like that. it probably touched his mouth, but i don't think there was any real biting in this particular version. although in real life, how could he hold back, what with all of those fresh vegetables and irresistable chicken just millimeters away from his tongue and lips.
  16. if you'd consider NYC there are many many more options for a "special" night including, but obviously not limited to, Vong, Nobu, Le Colonial, Shun Lee, Chin Chin.

    The Wine Clip

all this talk of bris is giving me another idea for another use of the clip.
  18. i have about 15 of them. mine mine, all mine.
  19. So is there is or is there ain't actual "bite action?" i think we need one of those anatomically correct dolls here.
  20. katie, please also remember that varmint is a liar.

    Wine Tasting Party Ideas

i've enjoyed vertical tastings at home. pick the same wine from different years.

    Wine X Magazine

i'm all for the trend towards a more relaxed and less uptight approach to wines. but most of the reviews/notes on the site seem almost useless. some have only 1 or 2 descriptors. the music section seems slightly better, however. edit: apparently, i just said what echezeaux said.
  23. i think "the clip" would help you there.
  24. well duh. this is egullet, and as you might imagine most of us have that stuff stocked in our pantries already.
