  1. speaking from experience, i don't think i've ever eaten a chicken wing if the TV wasn't on. and i do love chicken wings.
  2. straw man.
  3. then followed by a few budweisers from the magical location up the road, Satin Dolls.
  4. not NJ-centric, but atkins elegant desserts makes some damned good cheesecake. i don't think they have a retail store, but i think they deliver to the US and canada. a friend has given us 2 of their samplers this holiday season, and i've never eated so much cheesecake in my life.
  5. oddly, the writer found both good. although it is a silly test indeed.
  6. that's becoming more and more the case. several of my friends don't have land lines. i have 2 land lines, and i really don't use them very often.
  7. when i was a kid, we used to talk face to face. the phone is just another modern device that is destroying families. i feel sorry for kids whose parents let them use the phone, too.
  8. yea ma'am. thanks!
  9. this made no sense to me, until i remembered that you might be in canada. if that's correct, do you guys not have a "do not call" list up there?
  10. nope. it's actually a bar. a huge bar, down at the south side of the boardwalk. takes up the whole south side as far as i can remember. i think it's got an irish name, but i could be full of bologny.
  11. i'm with fat guy in that i don't answer the phone unless i'm good and ready. my home phone has customizable ring tones, which helps this. if i'm having dinner, or watching a movie, i don't have to get up to check the caller id: i can tell who's calling from wherever i can hear the phone.
  12. magic, pan. why do you ask?
  13. well, i haven't used a phone for 27 years, 2 months, and 8 days, but...

    California CHAMPAGNE

i can't help but think that there's a voiceover in that bolla commercial. i'm surprised no one on egullet has mentioned the ads for hard liquor. seems they're just starting to come out (at least around here). i wonder if they'll make their presence known during the super bowl?
  15. that sounds right, as neither says "dry". so the question becomes: is wet aging cheaper than dry aging. edit: ok, looks like it's going to be open for debate. interesting article

    California CHAMPAGNE

i think it's more of an education and taste issue, than a cost issue. prosecco is clearly a "better" product (by many standards), and usually cheaper than korbel. however, most people buy 1 bottle of champagne a year (and maybe 3 bottles of wine a year) and really don't put a lot of thought into it. i'd guess that this is Korbel's market. i'll also add that it's a decent enough jumping off point for young people. at least it was for me, as i drank a lot of it in college (although there weren't a lot of options back then, and it was clearly a better choice than martini and rossi asti spumante). and if you get a bottle as a gift, don't throw it out or re-gift it. just save it for mimosas.
  17. ruth's chris' website suggests that they serve aged prime beef. same with morton's website. it's not clear whether they're doing it on premises, although i wouldn't be surprised if they weren't, given the number of restaurants involved.
  18. i've seen *adults* dining at places like these where they didn't seem ready to enjoy the food at some level.

haven't heard a peep. it looks promising, so i hope they didn't fold before opening.

    California CHAMPAGNE

i think champagne (french), is often, if not always, made from three grapes: one of which is chardonnay, another is pinot noir, and the third i can't spell.
  21. yeah, even in less-than-large batches. Did you just take a poke at me, Tommy? nope. i was agreeing with you. as far as i remember.
  22. i had no idea what an Aviation was until i googled and found this.
  23. of course. edit: that was faster than i thought.
  24. we eat in front of the TV most times. unless it's a dinner that took a lot of effort, and seems to require a more proper setting, like an actual table. i can tell already that this thread is going to be, umm, "interesting." i just hope everyone remembers that there is no "right" and "wrong".
  25. le b is obviously one of the top restaurants in NYC. i suppose the Ryland Inn might come close.
