  1. I have held my tongue but drives me more batty than usual when people feel compelled to apologize for the look of food. Personally come here for inspiration and expoisure to new to me ideas. If I want pretty then Instagram etc. are out there in vast numbers.
  2. I know! I've only heard the snail on the tortoises back yelling "weeee! - look at me!" The flea is much better.

@shain Interesting attractive pan you used for the frittata. Nice for a company brunch. Hpw did you adjust the "regular" frittata process?
  6. With the changing environment I suggest that you develop a relationship with local fish buyers and trust their info. Yes they may source globally but ones with integrity know their sources as best they can. Example my local favorite https://santamonicaseafood.com/ They supply lots of the best seafood markets near me. You do not have a location listed - would help people help you. My favorite seafood is spiny lobnster so in season I chat with my people who buy from the divers. http://qualityseafood.com/

    Breakfast 2023

Its an old product, simple ingreients. Don't knock it if you've not had it esp grillled. https://www.eater.com/2014/7/9/6191681/a-brief-history-of-spam-an-american-meat-icon

    Breakfast 2023

Yup I did a sharp head swivel in market yesterday - there was a "wall o' Spam". Different color patterns indicating different flavors.
  11. Can you elaborate on chipotle slaw? A cabbage slaw with chipotle pepper in dressing or? Thanks. The floating taco bar sounds fun. We were at a resort in Acapulco once with a swim up bar. A freeing experience until my son's godfather lost track of his daughter. No harm but she was under water longer than one would want. Swimming lessons were immediately booked.
  12. A few gin and tonics and Pringles (also not greasy or messy) is my standard airplane munch.
  13. Yes! Anise toast was the low cal one!!! ETA: they looked like Italian biscotti
  14. As a non Jewish teen in extreme calorie counting mode I sought them out because they were for some reason among just a tiny handful of cookies listed in those little calorie books ! Always had their own end cap little display if you were lucky enough to find.
  15. I can smell those wonderul dried chiles. If they have agricultural dogs where your home flight lands - they will be overwhelmed with an unfamiiar scent. We use beagles here. I am not big on fruis as it makes me ravenous but you inspired me to experiment. If I eat protein in morning then fruit is a treat and not a trigger. I bought the same strawberries you posted a while back today. US$ 2.50/lb Driscolls from Mexico. Not the dead ripe intoxicatting in season scent/taste from my farmers market, but firm, nice sweet tart mix - very enjoyable.
  16. This was mildly amusing at the market (Ralphs) this morning. A while ago they made the thin plastic bags you put your produce in to take to regiaster thinner. Then, this being California, they were going to ban tham altogether. Got to produce section and was confronted by these 2 handled, sturdy, cardboard insert on bottom bags tucked into the plastic bag dispensers. Only option. Asked my fave guy and he said they were ony told that is all they have for now. He heard talk about our extreme weather interrupting the trucking part of supply chain for the usual bags. Felt stupid putting little things like mushroom, or serrano chilis in them, but otherwise a mess at register.
  17. @Mjx @David Lebovitz linked his whole lemon bars in his newsletter today. Sounds good to me https://www.davidlebovitz.com/whole-lemon-bars-recipe/
  18. I thinkwe get what you meant. Explaining jokes is a tailchasing activity
  19. I think the first confusion for me was tthinking the cookies and the bacon were related. Ignoring them still?????????????

    Frozen entrees

There was a time I favored some Lean Cuisines for work lunch when no time to run out for fish tacos or ceviche down the street. Best was chicken, noodles, peanut sauce. I ate it on a big bed of raw greens with chili hot sauce,. Some emergency dinners when I had masses of chard in my garden were lots of torn chard quickly in a pan with garlic and olive oii and tossed with LC fettucine Alfrdo. Lots of black pepper added. I looked on line today and the marketing has changed to odd dietary preference descriptions. I thought as was previously usual that the "diet" suff woud have sales around New Years (those resolutions) but that did not happen this year. I've let it go.
  21. At least you are being taken cre of anmd the meal sounded tailored to your needs. That prune juice canbe quite effective - scared the crap outta my dad when he and wife mistook the on sale juice for grape...
  22. But she is posting in Hospital Food so Jo are you in hospital?
  23. My dad age 100 reminisces about being raised by his widowed mom in rural Croatia and having beans cooked with a piece of salt pork from the barrel (the yearly pig) and sauerkraut from the several barrels as a dietary staple especially fall/winter. Sometimes there were potatoes or mom's homemade noodles. They had farmland she leased out like a sharecropper arrangement and spring/summer there were fruits especially to sneak.

    Oysters Rockefeller

I think you will enjoy the anise/fennel note. Have fun. Did you see @Shelby post about her longtime success freezing them when she gets a bulk deal? Takes out what she wants. Says easier to shuck once frozen. No quality depletion.
  25. Talented! When I went 9 months with radial nerve palsy I tried to switch to non dominant hand but used teeth in frustration. Not a good solution. The latest idiotic packaging was 18 eggs in a clear plastic lidded container. Very hard for me to break into or get the eggs out of their tight seats. Grrr Recently I had to use pliers to try to open the clamshell type packaging on some prepared seafood but the tabs were so tiny I had to break in with a sharp knife tip. I find that a majority of the tabs on sealed products too tiny to grasp with fingers or a toot so again - knife break in.
