  1. I just bought a bottle of this wine, and though I've heard about through publications, I really know nothing about it.......a little help??!! Thanks
  2. I know I've posted this before, but Meigas in Norwalk is IMHO one of the best restaurants in Fairfield county. Wine Spectator last year named it one of the 5 top Spanish restaurants in the country. Ignacio Blanco (the owner) is one of the finest hosts around. he will guide you through the all Spanish wine list and the chef Luis Bollo who has worked at some of the finest restaurants in Spain (including E Bulli) does a great job.
  3. Nice food, some of it cooked and presented in jars, (steamed and presented in the vessel it was cooked in) but I have heard nothing but good things. The building itself is beautiful. if you go post a report and let us know what you think.
  4. NY Times Sunday Connecticut section has a review on Fat Cat tomorrow, I was there last night and fri night the week before. Great pizza, wine list.....the place was ROCKIN" I had to wait 30 minutes for a table...but it is well worth it
  5. Restaurant Gaia in Greenwich in the space fka Dome, Fka Betrand, is getting some good buzz on the street. Any feedback??
  6. Left bank goats and sheep, right bank tourists.
  7. Had a great lunch there recently, but I have not been there for dinner in a few years. The quality of food and the preparation is on par with top NYC restaurants. Great service. I highly recommend. Like I said though, I have not been there for dinner in a few years.
  8. I don't know where you are driving from but Bon Ton fish market off of exit 3 in Greenwich is by far the best in the area.
  9. I always walk past Le Gigot down on Carmine, I see they get a good Zagat rating (I know the Z word is a dirty word!) But has anyone been there recently?
  10. Just ate at Au Lyonnaise in the (9er ??) It was quite good. Someone had mentioned Ducasse is consulting there. Is this considered a bistro??
  11. Was ther last tues. night for dinner, great thin pizza, but their salad needs work. all wine lists should be priced like theirs. What a great place, with the Garden Cinema right around the corner, its what the wall st. area needs.
  12. Zuni & Delfina, both a casual and delish
  13. Have been to pasta nostra, very good but those prices!!!
  14. I have a pretty fair knowledge of wine, I guess I'm looking for some sort of an "advanced course". Any suggestions??
  15. Ouch
  16. I was looking into possibly taking this course. Has anyone taken it, or know of the depth of the course. I looked at the web site and got some gereral info. I know Kevin Zraly is a great wine educator, but I was just wondering if someone had a quick overview or opinion on the class.

After putting in the long hard hours in a restaurant some chefs are ready for a change. I understand Alex has young children and the restaurant lifestyle has BRUTAL effects on a the married life. I think the top 3 professions for getting divorced are :1) doctor 2) lawyer 3) chef ! I know it is shocking to some that one of the top Sous/Chef de Cusine in NY has made such a drastic change, but I know alot of friends in the industry that re-evaluated their lives after 9-11 and decided to make changes. Some of these changes included leaving Manhattan. The club lifestyle can be quite nice for some chefs. Some of the clubs on the Gold Coast (Northern Nassau county and Southern Fairfield county) pay very well and would give Alex free reign in the kitchen. Club chefs work very hard in the Summer and usually work 1 or 2 days a week in the off season so they can lead somewhat of a normal life. Either way Alex is a great talent and for sure we will see more of him in some capacity in the future.
  20. Via Sforza on the post (as mentioned by Cheerieo70) is very good on a consistent basis. They just implemented a new menu. They have also just purchased an old building on the Westport/Norwalk border and will start constroction on a restaurant/wine bar to be completed late spring 2004
  21. Bux, Which day trips would you recommend? (My wife has her heart set on Versaille) PS I won't have a car..
  22. I found the TGV schedule and it seems that Brussels is a 1.5 hour ride from Paris. Should I go. If so is it a good day trip? Where or what should I eat? Where should I go for a good beer? HELP!
  23. Thanks!! Keep the ideas coming...you guys are the best.
  24. I' ll be in Paris for a week in Feb. and I'm looking for restaurants/bistros that serve great food and would not throw me out if I didn't have a jacket on or if I were wearing jeans. Any suggestions? I'm also looking for a reasonable hotel in the 8th or 15th Arr. (100euro)
  25. I'll be dining at GD for the first time next week after spending a week in sonoma/napa (vacation) What is the proper dress code for GD and how casual can I be?? ( I hate lugging a suit across country and I like to travel as light as possible. Is a jacket and collar OK?? How casual can a woman dress??
