  1. Hi, Thank you so much! I'm wanting to keep a spare gasket on hand just in case. It may stay in its package for years but I'll have it if I need it. I use a gas stove and usually stay in the kitchen when cooking. I'll be watching the PC like a hawk while doing other cooking tasks. Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it very much.

  3. When I was a kid we had one of these for 5 years. WE ALL HATED IT! Especially my mama. Our's had the wood counter, with storage below and two ovens above. I remember it as being too shallow for bigger pots & pans. It was sometimes not tall enough for some pots between the pulled out burners and the bottom of the ovens. It also made it hard to stir taller pots. There was not enough room between burners, so you were limited that way too. You had to reach above and over hot steamy pots to put in or pull something from the ovens. Did I mention we hated that stove? We had a small electrical fire caused by wiring in the unit and had to call the fire department. I still remember that smell. We never used it again and moved soon after into the house my parents bought and promptly bought a wonderful & big gas stove. That electrical piece of junk fostered my continuing hatred of electric stove burners. Electric ovens I'm okay with, electric burners... no. I like my gas.

I have silicone spatulas that are soft and pliable and have lasted almost 20 years and had an Oxo turner that lasted just 2 years after accidently tearing it (bought another one just like it). I was wanting to have extra seals & gaskets, or be able to get them, just in case I wreck the original ones. Thank you.
  5. Hi, Thank you, I appreciate the heads up! I see another visit to LAX-C in Los Angeles and 99 Ranch in my future. I have just a couple steaming items from there already, plus it's almost time to buy a new bamboo steaming cone for sticky rice. Thank you again, I appreciate your help.
  6. Hi, Thank you for your help and information. I use silicone utensils when needed. I also have used silicone rings, but only for brief cooking such as eggs and batters. I was concerned about use in extended cooking and not wanting to wreck a new pot. I'll look at those links. Thank you so much!
  7. Hi, Thank you for answering my question. I'll check out eBay. Some things I want & prefer old school. I get more satisfaction that way and look forward to the learning experience, memories and investing the time. I've gone back to using my grandmother's stovetop Carolina rice cooker, and a hand cranked White Mountain ice cream freezer. I like using my ancestor's cast iron from their kitchens and sheep camp. I like the fact that I can also take it when I go camping. Too many bells, whistles & promises sometimes leads me to wonder about compromises being made. Thank you for your help. They seem to be very well made right out of the box. So good to know your feeling about replacement. I saw an earlier poster, JoNorvelleWalker, said she was only "now" (2023) needing a replacement part after many years of use. That's a good endorsement in my book. My concern was seeing only 2 parts on Fissler's website, one of them being out of stock, and the possibility I just bought a model that was on its way out. Thank you for your help.

  9. Hi, Thank you for your input. I considered buying an Instapot a while back but found I was more interested in learning stovetop pressure cooking. I'm set on that and even if I send it back I'll be purchasing another stovetop PC. Since I bought this stovetop pot last week, and just found this thread yesterday and read through it, I'm wondering if parts will still be available my newly purchased version of the Fissler Vitaquick.
  10. Hi, I'm a long time member but mostly a reader & only rarely a poster. I am just now reading this thread and am very new to pressure cooking. I bought my first PC, a Fissler Vitaquick 8.5, on Amazon Prime Days last week, July 2024. and haven't used it yet. Are parts still available for it like the lid gaskets or a new valve? Should I return it? I'm only seeing 2 parts listed, a control valve that looks nothing like mine and also a valve gasket set that is out of stock. I don't want to throw good money away on a pot that can't be repaired or it's gaskets replaced. Also, can you use silicone perforated and unperforated baskets and trivet with the stovetop PC or will it melt? Thanks for any and all help. I sure appreciate it.
  11. When cleaning out my Dad's house I found this bottle of Mexican "Alcohol Puro de Caña" in the back of the linen closet. I remember this always being there since I was a young kid in the 70s. He said this was a gift, he didn't say when, someone gave it to him but he wasn't a drinker of alcohol and in the closet it went. It has never been opened and the level it's at is due to the angels I suspect. The lid was and remains tight. The alcohol is crystal clear with no sediment. I don't have the heart to open it. I like keeping it as is but.... Does anyone have any information on it? Edited to add: I'm so sorry! I didn't see that I put this in the wine forum. If someone can move it to the spirits forum I sure would appreciate it. Thank you.
  12. Kellogg's screwed up a good thing and lost a lot of customers. I haven't bought Taffy cookies since they changed the recipe to some nasty little piece of disappointment. Good news might be in store though, Kelloggs is selling off their cookie line.   13. I have the last jar of Green Tomato Piccalilli my Grandmother made and canned. It dates from the mid 80's and looks nothing like it should and is probably a biological weapon of food poison contained in a Mason jar. It sits untouched on the shelf and is one of the things I check on periodically especially after an earthquake. I bequeathed it to my 11 year old niece. The poor thing knows she'll be the keeper of at least one of the family legacies. The real gem in the family collection is Grandpa's pepper bottle. When my grandmother died about 2005 she still had the last batch of pepper vinegar she made for my grandfather. She used to stuff yellow hot peppers (at the time) and spices into an old liquid sweetener bottle with a pointed tip then filled it with vinegar. He died in the late 1960's and for 36 years she would periodically top off that bottle of old peppers with vinegar as it evaporated. My aunt now has the bottle and those almost 50 year old peppers are black. I don't have a picture of the bottle, need to get one, but it was one of these. Anybody else have a family food heirloom they are holding on to for future generations?
  14. Thanks. The link wouldn't work for me. My fiancé is a pepper head so I wanted to surprise him with this. I'll have to also get a commercial bottle of the sauce just to compare. Edited to Add: One of the original questions posed was what do you believe you have the last of. I'm sure there are other private stashes out there but I have two cases of original formula Campari. I use the new formula for parties.
