  1. I live in Lisa's world. I do my best with what's available and affordable. We planted a vegetable garden so more of our produce is local. Growing a good garden in the desert is a challenge though.
  2. I watched. Definitely NOT a must see. If you don't give your chefs hair nets or hats a hair in the food should not be surprising. I noticed she was wearing a headband after the fact though. I think I saw a naked man in the previews. And I did read that the French guy was a porn star in a previous life.
  3. Jen looked disappointed she wasn't sent home. I was almost hoping it would be Eli before Robin so I could see him throw a mantrum. I was at a Thomas Keller book signing yesterday afternoon and asked him if he's going to be on the show and he just laughed and handed my book back to me. Guess I got my answer in the previews.
  4. GE Monogram-which consistently fails Was it Michelob Beer that drove Bourdain away?
  5. Honestly I don't think any of them seem interesting. And I agree about the odd editing last night. I was surprised to see Freitag go after the judges comments.
  6. LMAO!!!! Mehta fan club party of one! I think he's creepy and everyone else I know says the same. He only stands out because he's annoying and has crappy sportsmanship.
  7. I can't edit my post but I meant Michael V. And ITA on his comments on Kevins dish. It actually looked more appealing to me. Really? Kevin's dish, while I'm sure it was tasty, looked like something that would wash up on a beach to me. It was largely monochromatic and really kind of just heaped on the plate. I'm not making excuses for Mike V's behavior but based on looks alone I would have much rather eaten his dish. I love mushrooms I agree it wasn't pretty but it looked like a more satisfying meal than some vegetables and a dab of banana polenta.
  8. I agree with this. And if he won he wouldn't he a jackhole to a contestant on ICA, but seeing him be one on this show left a bad taste in my mouth and I probably wouldn't watch his episodes. Plus he reminds me of Nosferatu. Actually I'd watch every show if the Iron Chefs were just Morimoto and Batali.
  9. I can't edit my post but I meant Michael V. And ITA on his comments on Kevins dish. It actually looked more appealing to me.
  10. I can cook better vegetarian than those chefs. Kevin's dish is closest to what I would have made but the rest of them were uninspiring. And I'm not into large portions but a lot of them were so small. I also noticed Brian followed the servers out with some little copper pots but I didn't see him put anything on the judges plates. Did I miss something? Really any of the bottom three could have gone and I think Jennifer was hoping it would have been her. She's falling apart. she's probably a good chef on her own time and without restrictions. I honestly thought Robin would do better. I also think the other chefs need to get over it and accept she's there so quit kicking walls and worry about yourself Eli! Natalie was a good judge. She really seemed to enjoy being there and didn't have a list of restrictions. I wonder if the kitchen had restrictions because with vegetarian you can still use butter, cream, and cheese and with the exception of Jens sauce I didn't see any of those items.
  11. I wasn't too impressed with anyone this episode. And I knew the judges would bring up the eclair being French. That said it was time for the French lady to go home. She always semmed to be in the bottom or skimming the bottom.
  12. Interesting article. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/28/dining/28keller.html?_r=1&th&emc=th
  13. Methinks between Top Chef, Top Chef Masters, that Top Chef dessert show, and this they should rename themselves "Chef TV" Anyway it starts Nov 16 and has a French Chef I've never heard of. But he was voted "World's Sexiest Chef" by the New York Times. http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/b...ov-16-9682.php And the official site http://www.bravotv.com/chef-academy
  14. Can't wait for a date and a chef list!
  15. Natalie Portman is a vegan so I guess we know what that challenge will be. Jen's anxiety gets in her way.
  16. Well that was painful to watch. I felt bad for Jennifer. I'm glad Revolt did well despite the name but Mission has to be the worst in the history of restaurant wars. Between all those chefs they couldn't make ONE dessert? And Laurine just plopping down plates in front of people with no explanation? The right person went home imo and Robin survives another day....
  17. I thought the challenge was awesome. But I still hate Mehta. WTF was that DNA take out crap? I did not see innovation as Thai food is already available for takeout. And he didn't even try to stick to the challenge-his line was, "Americans love takeout." I think they're keeping him around because they need an asshat and Appleman isn't being as jerky as he was in episode one. Appleman making up a story about his mom's crockpot roast beef and lumpy mashed potatoes cracked me up. Garces and Freitag are my faves. I'm glad Freitag is smiling more. Steingarten is a jerk. He knows food but he seems to want to say something negative just for the sake of saying something negative.
  18. I rewound and nothing was said. I think he just won.... When will Gail be back? Toby with his hairy armpit wine comment-ughh. Although the expression on Tom's face was funny. I'm glad Kevin won and that pate looked great! Jen is so hard on herself and then she does really well. Although I thought she said she was making pork and beans? I think any one of the bottom three could have left although I really thought it would be Laurene.
  19. Nah taking all the grape leaves and gloating was a douchebag move even if he did part with some later. He purposely made the other chef panic. There's no fancy editing there. He acted like an asshat.
  20. I also noticed they're mirroring Top Chef with the Quick fire type challenge. If only they would have a gues judge for that portion instead of peer judging. Maybe (hopefully) they will later.
  21. Looks like the Jerk Torch was passed from Appleman to Chef Crazy Eyes last night. Hoarding grape leaves for your presentation when you know someone has to make dolma is a jackass move even if it is a competition. And he looked so pleased with himself. I'm glad the judges didn't like it. I think Garces and Appleman will be in the finals. Not sure who else. The women are underwhelming me.
  22. I'd love to see Thomas Keller on the show. This weeks was a yawner imho. And Padma needs to burn that green jumpsuit.
  23. Interesting challenge. Unlaid eggs with the fallopian tubes still attached was the only ingredient that would skeeve me out. I was trying to think what I would do with grasshoppers. I've ony heard about them coated in chocolate. But that would not be original. Maybe a fruit crisp with a grasshopper topping? Donatella and Steingarten were really snipping at each other. I haven't seen ICA in ages but I get the feeling they really don't like each other. Is there a story there?
  24. It makes me sad. I'm a long time subscriber even though I've been less than thrilled with more recent issues. They're keeping the website alive but I don't know that I'll make the effort to visit.
