  1. First let me say I am sorry for resurrecting a long dead thread but I can't believe that no one mentioned "The Godfather"!. I know there was some sort of mafia story line in there amoungest the food- but damn!. "Leave the gun, take the cannoli" Another one scene mention would have to be the dinner scene in "Going My Way" where Bing Crosby is having turkey for dinner- sends me into a turkey fit every time. Also vaguely food related "Home For The Holidays"- admit it you can see your family in that movie too. My last scene would have to be from "A Christmas Story" after the Bumpas's dogs have killed the family's Christmas dinner Ralphie and the family end up at their local Chinese place for a dinner that includeds duck- served with the head still on and the Chinese waiters "singing" carols to them "Ra ra ra ra rah, rah ra ra rah..."
  2. I can't wait for them to get here. Unfortunatly I have noticed that here in Georgia we don't have as wide a selection of Snapple flavors as you guys back east do- for example the mint tea is no where to be found here and as the tea/lemonade mix (which I love) so I always bring a stash home with me from New York when I go see the in-laws. Did you ever try th sun tea's they had out in the late 90's?. I loved those, the plain was the one I would get. It was sweet but not too sweet.
  3. You got it, we are planning a gut busting trip to Chili's Friday if all goes well. When I do I will create a post for it!
  4. I hope you are all happy I am dying for a hot dog and a berry sundae now... Gigi- contemplating the drive to Kennesaw in the rain.

    POM Wonderful

If you've not tried it salmon marinaded in Pom-mango is excellient.
  6. OOH! that hasn't hit my local stores yet but I will be looking for it. I like white tea alot- POM just came out with a line of teas also. We tried the white tea/peach/pom flavor. It actually tastes like a real peach rather then syrupy and it is just a tad tart. Super exspensive (it was $3.50 for 13.5 oz) but it was worth it for a treat.
  7. You know I haven't had one in years and after all this talk I may just have to hunt down a local chili's! (if you are going to do it you may as well go all the way)
  8. And I for one would like to thank you that. If I wanted BS and relentless perk and positive PR-especially when not merited, I could have part of my brain removed and watch Retchel Ray on "$40 A Day" or the even worse "Tasty Travels". It's the snark I look foreward to, and the fact that in any given episode you are not going to take the easy road with the pretty pictures and prozac laced voice over. If you hated it and thought it sucked it's all out there- and when you do gush about something being great it's real and not just a show for the camera. I may not always agree, I might wonder if all the alcohol has effected your judgement but I never think you said it because someone was dangling a check in front of you or because it would bring your Q rating up. P.S. DVD's- we need DVD's!
  9. You have further inspired me to move to Holland- it looks beautiful there. Happy Birthyday!

    Top Chef

I am sure this is not going to add to my popularity but what the hell... Since I am in the group that both likes Gordon Ramsay and dislikes Stephen I thought I would toss my two cents in a bit further. Yes, I am going to defend Gordon Ramsay. No I am not going to go all gooey over his resume, but I would like to point out that even I felt that Hell's Kitchen- while pretty entertaining IMHO -the show did purposely show him as an over-baring, verbally abusive, insensitive tyrant. And much like Simon Cowel's shtick on another Fox show, American audiences responded to it. Love him or hate him tuning in to see what he would do or say next was a big part of the show's appeal- (and yes, this is also part of Top Chef with Stephen). Fox isn't stupid they know how to edit they're programming to what they're viewers are expecting. Hell's Kitchen editing aside, from the interviews I have read with him, his own web site (http://www.gordonramsay.com/site/index.html-) and having watched his BBC shows (Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares gives a far better view of him) I think Ramsay is someone who is passionate about food and about his work and has extremely high standards for himself and those who work for him. I don't think that anything he asks of the contestants or the people on the BBC shows is unreasonable. He expects that those around him will give the same 100% that he does and has no patience for those who waste his time. Granted this tends to rub people the wrong way- but such is life. At the end of the day though as Divalasvegas said this is TV- reality TV at that. And as Diva also pointed out Stephen is the guy some of us love to hate- Stephan winning or losing is not going to have any effect on my day to day life- just as Gordon yelling at Dewberry did not. (and what is it with these shows and guys that cry?) So I guess until one of the networks finally air the show I really want to see (which involves Bourdain and Ramsey browbeating Rachael Ray for her crimes against humanity until she is left in a quivering puddle of her damned EVOO and promising never to open her joker like mouth again) I will just have to agree to disagree with whom the good guys/bad guys of the TV food world are.
  11. Thank you, thank you!. All I can say is that after a day of explaining to presbyopic 45 year old women that the colored vanity lens would only fix a friction of their vision issues and being bitched out about it and then going to my other job and selling gadgets such as a cheap forks that tell you when your meat is done (don't get me started on those things I hated them!) to people who considered "Sizzler" to be the home of the BEST steak ever, well by the end of that day I was ready to stab said blind women with those forks. Bad fajitas and cheap liquar won't solve your problems but they will lull you into a slightly drunken slug-like nitrite lull- and somedays that is as close to relaxing as you can get.
  12. Tony, please tell us there is going to be a DVD set with commentary! (loved the leftovers episode btw)
  13. Jason, You should check out Whole Foods. The Atlanta locations carry them so I would assume that they are probably available at your local stores also.

    Top Chef

As long as Stephen doesn't win I will be happy. I just want to swipe that smug sneer off his face, comb his damn hair and strangle him with that hugely knotted tie
  15. Oh how I wish I had seen this thread sooner! I did manage to score the last bottle my local Publix had- and now I want more! Why couldn't Coke offer this year round as a premium option?. This is a hundred times better then any of the flavors they have offered as of late.
  16. Archer Farms sea salt and olive oil chips are addicting. Not greasy and perfectly salted.
  17. Am I the only one who is a fan of Effen vodka? http://www.effenvodka.com/ I find it to be very smoothand clean tasting. The only thing I do on occasion is drink it dirty with whatever olives I have on hand- but that is admittedly when I have a salt craving.
  18. A fair enough question. In my case I can tell you that it was because at the time it was the only thing open in my area late at night-(at the time I was working from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm without enough of a break between jobs to get any sort of decent food) besides Denny's- and as bad as Chili's (I know, I know...) can be in the very least it is not Denny's and they have alcohol- after that many hours on my feet dealing with people damned if I didn't need a drink!. Under normal circumstance, no that would not be the choice I would make for dinner or drinks but sometimes you make due with what you've got. Now that's my excuse for drinking bad college kid drinks and I am sticking to it!
  19. Not being a fan of mixed drinks as a rule I am of the Grey Goose or Effen if they carry it, stright up crowd. When the mood strikes that I want to try something different I like to ask the bartender (assuming they are not in the weeds of course) what their personal signature or favorite drink is and have them make me one of those. for the most part it has worked out pretty well for me- that is how I discovered Effen and had my first Mojito (years before they got popular again). It did admitedly bite me once when a young bartender (whom had served me several times before made great drinks as a rule) made me something called an "Adios Motherfucker" the sole purpose of that drink it seems is to get you incredibly drunk before you realize the damage you have done to yourself (his version at least tasted so sweet and smooth I went through two of them before they hit me)
  20. ME?!- why no! I am just a nice Italian girl, pure as the driven snow I am!, a fine example of a young lady.... ok since I feel safe to say that my Mother is not reading, there may have been a time or two that the delightful smoothness of Effen vodka was had in amounts that may or may not have been enough to knock out a moose...
  21. Thank you both very much- after reading that thread I am inspired to want to try it now.
  22. Chef Bourdain (or anyone kind enough to answer)- this may have been covered already and I apologize for asking a question in reference to an older show, but did you ever find out what a Japanese moutain potato was?. I recall your saying that it was one of the most vile things you had ever eaten but that you weren't sure exactly what it was. I have been wondering about that ever since. BTW Love No Reservations and never miss an episode.
  23. Ya' know Paula's boy's are no Anthony Bourdain but they aren't exactly hard on the eyes so I don't mind seeing them on their own show- Let's be fair it's Food Network and they are as qualified as anyone else on that network of having a show. But hasn't this show already been done... let's see I think it used to be called... "Roker On The Road" or maybe it was called "The Best Of" - no wait wasn't it "Dweezil & Lisa" (a show I liked)?... Oh how silly of me it was called "Food Finds"!.. no...wait, maybe it was... Ok the point being could they have found nothing better for Jamie and Bobby then a show they have remade at least 5 times?.
  24. UGH no thank you! At least here in the Atlanta area I have yet to find a good Subway. There is just something so off-putting about slimy 'lunch meat'- the two most local to me also carry only American and Swiss cheese, no provolone, no chedder, no thank you.
