Make a tomatillo jam - absolutely delicious! Also they work really nicely in a bloody mary - swap them for the regular tomato juice and use a jalapeno chilli sauce or green tabasco as opposed to the regular one.

  6. My parents are up for trying most things - and fresh seafood is never low brow (especially if there is a nice glass of wine or an ice cold beer involved) ;-) Thanks for all teh suggestions, my Dads itinery is filling up and is planned with military precision so my mother is delighted to have some nice restaurants to look forward to amongst all the rigorous planning!

  9. In London, I'd be most interested in seafood, Modern British, contemporary continental, Turkish, Spanish, Indian, Middle Eastern and Moroccan foods, and not as interested in classical French or Italian foods. Which restaurants would you recommend for Dover sole or Dorset crab dishes? Yes to visiting sheekeys, would recommend also stopping by the oyster bar at Scotts as well - lovely at lucnhtime and always a nice atmosphere (not cheap though) Spanish - brave the queues at barrafina in Soho - 23 seater no reservations tapas bar based on Cal Pep - outstanding food, i have never been disappointed there. Second Noura for good upmarket lebanese - moro was also an old favourite too - maybe more of a lunch place than dinner though. Ottolenghi for breakfast is outstanding. If you like morroccan, stop by the mo cafe and tearooms on heddon street for some mezze at lunch and a nice glass of rose or in the evening for cocktails/snacks. Cafe Anglais is just perfection for British cooking at its best - not sure i would call it modern though - check out the menu, i love it there. Have a great trip and dont forget to report back!
  10. Thanks for all the advice, My mum will definitely want to check out Pain Quotidien as we lived in Belgium for years and the company originated there, the otehr suggestions look graet too - i think they will be travelling the coastal road ( my geography is pretty horrific so i am sure i have their route totally confused but i am sure my father has it all under control!) Thanks again!
  11. So the eggs i have seen with a month long use by date are fine then? Good to know - thank~s!
  12. On a slightly different note - egss where i am have a use by date of over a month, which i am dubious about to say the least, i would usually expect eggs to have a use by date of like a week surely?
  13. Ok so for San Fran am thinking Baker and banker, Frances, Sons and daughters and either Sams Grill or the Swan Depot Oyster Barn along with cocktails at bourbon and branch and Tommys - what about LA? Anyone got any favourites there - they are staying on the Queen Mary but will have a car.... Thanks!
  14. Diced pancetta or bacon that has been grilled or fried and stirred through with some chopped tomato, you could wilt some spinach and add some blue cheese too. Sauteed prawns and some raw chilli pepper stirred through it would be good too..Sliced chicken breast and some sauteed mushrooms - the possibilities are literally endless.
  15. I would check out the restaurants you would be interested in doing a stage in and try contacting them directly..
  16. Everything!! Specifically the traditional Malay hole in the wall places and then i can work up to the big names when i am so inclined...

  19. My Parents are headed to Yosemite, Vegas and the Grand Canyon this September and i was hoping for help with some recommendations of where to eat. They are spending 2-3 nights in each place They like to eat in mid range restaurants with a good atmosphere, where they can feel like locals, From the Vegas thread i thought they would like places like Sage/B&B/Tableau etc if tahts anything to go on. Needless to say good food is a must... Any advice from all you lovely Egulleters would be much appreciated

  23. One of the easiest fish recipes i know uses fresh salmon fillets (you could use frozen and just make sure they are defrosted first) Simply squeeze and zest a couple of limes and add a good handful of chopped cilantro to the mixture. Put a couple of spoons of the mixture on top of the fish fillet, then place the salmon on top of a couple of sheets of filo pastry, wrap like a parcel and brush with an egg glaze. Pop in the oven at a medium temperature for around 20 minutes depending on the size of the fish and how cooked you like it. I always serve with sauteed zucchini, chopped chilli and spinch with another good squeeze of lime juice added to the veg at the end. Its a great, no hassle dish...
