Does that matter Does that matter, rotuts? The very idea that one may be policed by the whims of an ever more politically correct "better" is un-American. We have no "betters". We are all equal under the law and as I asked several pages back, isn't PD being asked to prove a negative in this lawsuit? This is a dangerous path to go down.
-
Some are more equal than others, sigma.
-
Not necessarily. We've all told friends their new hair style is fabulous while thinking otherwise.
-
A regular hat trick. HR probably got a hiring bonus out of that one.

Christy Brinkley is ready to start working again. Padma, pass that baton.

Mitch, do you not understand that there is an expectation of privacy when one is speaking privately? It's not for public consumption. It's the reason so many are outraged at the NSA spying debacle and view Edward Snowden as a hero for exposing the scope of the spying. There are doubts about the veracity of the woman who is suing. In the meantime, in the effort to cull some of Paula's dough, she has toppled the PD Empire, cutting off her nose to spite her face.
-
It's getting this amount of attention because Paula Deen is being pilloried for something she said in private. There are myriad examples of other people saying and doing much more egregious things on camera who are not receiving the same level of scrutiny. It's selective public humiliation. Ted Danson appeared at an event in black face. Umbrage taken? Not much.

There are certainly Good words and Bad words, but linguistic intent matters, as Matthias’s executioner learns in Life of Brian. Matthias: Look, I don’t think it should be a sin, just for saying “Jehovah.” (Everyone gasps.) Jewish Official: You’re only making it worse for yourself! Matthias: Making it worse? How can it be worse? Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah! Jewish official: I’m warning you! If you say “Jehovah” one more time (gets hit with rock) RIGHT! Who did that? Come on, who did it? Stoners: He! He did! He! Jewish official: Was it you? Stoner: Yes. Jewish official: Right… Stoner: Well you did say “Jehovah.” (Crowd throws rocks at the stoner.)

I think this is more likely, rotuts. Paula Deen has outlived her useful life on Food Networkand they have used the deposition to not renew her contract. Her husband is wealthy in his own right. They won't go barefoot.

Blacks don't have ultimate moral authority on who gets to say what. I've heard plenty of terrible things said by all groups of people. As someone said somewhere, "N***** is an attitude, not a skin color." The late Robert Byrd (D-KKK) used it on television before he died to refer to "white n*******".
-
"R word"? What?

I cannot read minds so I can't tell you if Bourdain or Deen believe what they say or are trying to shock. Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c*nt on national television and he still has a show. Funny? Not so much. Calling her baby a "retard"? Again he still has a job. It's all about whose ox is being gored. "Even in NYC" That has to be one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've read in a long time.

Don't be silly, Mike. Tony is an aging hipster. Paula simply isn't "one of our kind." Or something.
-
Well, Katie, I don't think that apology sounds at all sincere. Too much justification. /sarcasm When we are all victims of the Thought Police, we can all look forward to days like that.
-
Thanks. I looked them up and they don't look to require anything special as far as growing conditions. I'll put some in when it cools down this Fall.
-
I have read it the deposition. I am not defending Ms. Deen's use of indecorous language, I am saying the punishment is unequal to the crime.
-
It wasn't you, rotuts. It was Katie Meadow.
-
Not that I'm aware of Mitch. Has anyone lambasted Tony for the mean things he's said about women and gays?

You know, if the NYT were writing up one of its hagiographic pieces about Soul Food in Harlem, the patrons would be sporting the same robust physiques and the food would be the same. But that's different. What a bunch of hypocrites at the NYT. I have to wonder if you even read the article. I thought it presented the "other side" of the argument fairly. It gave direct quotations from her supporters and did not, in my opinion, skew things to favour those who are appalled by Deen's words / behaviour. They even made a point of interviewing an African American who espoused support for Deen. (which to me, speaks of an "I'm not prejudiced; some of my best friends are [fill-in-minority-group-here] denial) The picture is merely a picture of a line up in front of Paula Deen's restaurant the day (or thereabouts) after the crap hit the fan. I really don't believe the photographer requested all the obese people to line up at front (it appears to be the front of the line). Those just happened to the be people who were there. How does that make the NYTimes writers / photographers hypocrites? I did read it and thought it was fair. My comment was to the originally poster who was having a laugh at the plus-sized diners. I referenced the restaurants in Harlem reviewed by the NYT because the patrons look exactly the same, yet are imbibing in a holy communion of Southern food, not an artery-clogging heart attack on a platter with a side of Type 2 Diabetes.

You're correct prasantrin. Isn't the plaintiff asking the defendants to prove a negative, though? As I said upthread, the grievance of the waitress seems to be she said/he said and a boatload of hearsay. Meanwhile, Deen's fans crush the Food Network's message boards. Of course, rotuts. I wasn't singling you out, just pointing out the racism of the NYT in embracing Harlem and rejecting Paula Deen for making the same food.

Thanks, Mike. I was going to address that very point. I guess if Paula had been a heroin addict, it'd all be good.
-
Funny thing, that. The Lady and Sons hosts a large buffet.
-
Not from anything I've read about it. For every one outraged! post there are ten "screw Food Network" posts.
