  1. Whatever works, of course. I'm sure that TJ's would like to know about the problem one way or the other. And if they don't care or nothing changes, I'd shop somewhere else.
  2. Tonight, I am going to repurpose a moussaka I baked Saturday into a pizza topping on homemade focaccia.
  3. I'm going to roast a chicken with root vegetables later this week and serve it with mashed potatoes and pan gravy. It should be cold enough for a fire and that will be just the ticket. I think I'll bake a gingerbread, too.
  4. How large are these stores? Are there multiple layers of management? I don't know anything about their corporate structure. When my elder son was in high school he worked at a local grocery store that has about 30 stores in its empire. There were multiple layers of management and the store manager spent most of his time in his office doing ordering and the like. If TJ's structure is similar it's possible the manager is unaware of the problems. I like to go to the guys who are on the ground first. Messages get garbled when you call on the phone and many times the ball can be dropped. Of course, it's possible that others have already expressed a concern to corporate. In the spirit of fairness, I would go to the store manager first and see if that does the trick.
  5. I've never shopped in a TJ's since they are not in my area, but this doesn't sound like a typical experience from what I have read here and elsewhere about their stores. I'd talk to the store manager first. It's his/her responsibility to see that the store is run properly. If you don't get results there, then go over his head and call corporate. There's no need to blind-side the store with a visit from corporate until you give them a chance to correct the problems first.

    Pimento Cheese

Pimento cheese spread on whole grain bread, toasted is a fantastic late night snack and a good I'm-feeling-sorry-for-myself snack. You can run it under the broiler, too. Tasty!

    Pimento Cheese

They probably buy the store bought stuff, so you're ahead of the game.

    Pimento Cheese

Make it with the roasted peppers and tell them it's a new take on your Auntie Sarah's pimento cheese. The one she's going to put in the church cookbook. It works every time.
  9. It's your usual population who is at risk: infants, children, pregnant women, the elderly, the immunocompromised. I've had salmonella poisoning. I'd rather go through childbirth. At least I'd have something to show for the suffering.
  10. There isn't much resistance to salmonella to be had.
  11. I'll take pictures, but no promises on the quality.
  12. Sounds like the borrower owes you a griddle or lesson learned about lending items to the careless. Since the crack is longer than thought, I'd most likely not use it anymore.
  13. Thank you, Dave. I also say one more week! (Tell Linda I am making her moussaka tomorrow.)
  14. You aren't missing anything, so don't feel cheated. I love soft-boiled eggs and egg sandwiches and egg salad. I do not love fried eggs on hamburgers, even though my family is German on my dad's side and we had them that way at my Mutti's (our name for our grandmother) house. I also like poached eggs in soup but not on salad.
  15. That's gross, huiray. I'm now cemented in my position against runny eggs.
  16. They're all about the "perfect yolk". Alrighty then, having it run down my arm isn't pleasant and doesn't add to my hamburger noshing experience.
  17. Yes please! I need a new salad dressing recipe and that one looks tasty.
  18. Am I the only one who is over runny eggs? I don't like eggs as toppers on salads and hamburgers, although they have been a darling of judges for it seems like 10 years now. They just gross me out and don't belong there.
  19. Le Supermarche? How convenient!
  20. That's not what he's saying, dcarch and you know it. Bittman often makes specious claims (remember the garlic or herb flavored olive oil debacle?). He isn't a scientist and shouldn't be making scientific claims in areas about which his expertise is lacking. Certainly he has a research assistant who can make sure his claims are valid or is the NYT that strapped for cash? As for Bittman's bona fides, I have two master's degrees. Neither of them is in journalism. Using this logic, my opinions are twice as valid as Bittman's.
  21. Personally, I'd rather Dave tell us about his week rather than delve into other realms. His village is like a dream and a step back in time for me.
  22. Thank you, Linda! It sounds wonderful.
  23. Does Linda care to share her moussaka recipe? It looks fantastic.
  24. Those are dried or very badly lit chanterelles, I believe.
