  1. moosnsqrl. absent on both. wow, is that a wealth of info! i look forward to visiting krause's... is there a website... oh, nevermind, i'll look them up online. cheers. u.e.
  2. you're no fun... seriously, if i had known that option was available, i'd have picked the same!! sigh... tried to get in once at lunch, and the line was out the door and around the corner.... not familiar - when did this pop up on the radar? fill me in!!u.e.
  3. yeah, i know, my "miff" isn't really warranted... i have no way of confirming that clothing/apparent stature dictates treatment (at least i hope not!!)... i guess i was just terribly disappointed about the situation... still, 6.30? oh well, i'll just have to go back again!!
  4. As would I - except, I still feel a little "miffed" (ie. suspicious) that they ran out of their most popular item at 6.30pm??? We weren't exactly outfitted in the refined raiments that we noticed the man at the next table wearing - he who casually chomped on their supposed last lobster burger while perusing over the post.
  5. I knew you'd only hurt me in the end.... Man, if there's one thing I love, it's that lobster burger. ← sorry shogun... but, look at it this way, you're luckier than i, as they "ran out" of those apparently popular babies before i could wrap my mouth around one... u.e.
  6. tammylc, as always, a reliable source for a great review! sorry i missed out on the fun! couldn't quite make it out there to kerrytown. cheers. u.e.
  7. unconfirmed - but i do remember someone in my party ordering adzuki bean ice cream at kato in the northland (barry road and i-29 in the boardwalk shopping strip). u.e.
  8. yes, been there. can't say that i was that impressed... although, i will say, that if you like truly spicy food - you might appreciate it for that aspect... have yet to find a truly impressive indian, thai and ethiopian (i know it's not asian, but is one of my favorite ethnic cuisines) place in kansas city. on the upside - i highly recommend pho 97 at 2605 independence avenue for some of the best vietnamese food around! (near the cross-street prospect). it's not the best neighborhood for late night dining, but i'll swear by any of their fortifying pho's and their crispy fried quail is irresistable! u.e.
  9. "them," meaning sushi house? you can't find adzuki bean ice cream anywhere else in k.c.? hmmm.. let me think on this one... u.e.
  10. i'm no bruni groupie, but - ouch... personally, with the kind of phrases that you quote, i don't literally read-in "adolescence of the palate," rather, i take it more (whether accurately, or not), as a literary hyperbole to highlight the confusing and overwhelming ("dazzled than dazed") litany of ingredients that i can imagine a waiter spewing off in a memorized chant; or a way to convey the idea of unimpressionable food, but particularly good bread ("little but the bread"). i don't read that deeply into all of mr. bruni's comments, but that's just me - you're entitled to your reading, and i certainly respect that. ...just make sure it's not your own words you end up eating!
  11. Leonard, I echo Sneakeater in applauding you for that thoughtful and thorough post. In my opinion, thank goodness he's not (a robotic reviewer) and that he doesn't (review just for himself, or fail to give credit where he thinks it's due, even if he disagrees with the results). Couldn't have said it better myself!
  12. katie, if you don't mind, i'll jump in: Best Asian: my vote stays the same: Jen Jen's pray, do tell! wouldn't mind knowing what his "reserve" flavors at murray's are! u.e.
  13. not that i don't like fat burgers - the "super greasy and thin patties" tempt me more, hence my favor of winstead's cheeseburger - but it sounds like t.t. might give winstead's a run for their money in my tummy! i know where that is!! it sits alone - like an oasis of grease - i always s(mell)ee it driving on broadway. thanks jwest! cheers. u.e.
  14. I'd have to agree. Their sorbets are more granite and crystalized in texture - which I prefer to the syrupy mushy factory-produced stuff that I unfortunately encounter too many other places. I have to commend Le Fou Frog on their sorbets in this regard too - and they often have very interesting flavors. Ulterior Epicure.
  15. Thanks muchly for the report. ← Ditto! I've been meaning to stop by for dinner sometime! I drove past it on the way to dinner last week and wondered what was going on inside. U.E.
  16. newb - thanks for the info! will HAVE to swing by westport post-March.... must I wait???? Perhaps, I could get added to her (who's "her?" - I assumer not "Murray" ) call list all the time!!
  17. Not Tellin! ← wait - what aren't you tellin'? if it's the location of this highly popular murray's, then you're evil!! u.e.
  18. sounds vaguely familiar... u.e.
  19. I posted this question upstream a while ago, but just really curious - where's Murray's? I'm ALWAYS looking for great ice cream... it's my only true sweet temptation...
  20. To address someone's comment up-thread: Dialing Back After a quiet closing in December, Matsumoto (3800 W. Lawrence Ave.; 773-267-1555), the innovative Japanese dining room that offered a seven-course kaiseki (dégustation) menu, will reopen on February 10 th as Chiyo. “It was a mistake,” said the owner, Isao Tozuka , of the restaurant’s original culinary ambitions. “It was too complicated and there was no regular menu.” Chiyo (the name of Tozuka’s wife, who runs the front of the house) will offer more familiar Japanese fare such as sushi, tempura, teriyaki, shabu shabu, and yosenabe, a dish he likened to bouillabaisse. The restaurant will still offer a kaiseki menu (price to be determined), but will require three days’ notice. Tozuka takes the place of Seijiro Matsumoto, who was formerly at the helm in the kitchen. 21. The link's not working for me... U.E.
  22. joe. thanks - curious to know. u.e.
  23. also, based on these photos - they're a lot less "fusion" (ie. westernized) than the omakases i've had at the philadelphia locale. u.e.
  24. Welcome back (I'm U.S.-side right now)!! Can't wait to hear all about what you were able to catch of Madrid Fusion... sorry to hear about the airline complications... U.E.
  25. I was already planning on a trip out to Los Gatos (per eGulleters' recommendations) and was excited... but I opened up the the Times this morning to the delight of Fabricant's article!! Now I'm even more excited. Is it terribly remote/difficult to get to? How long of a drive outside of S.F.? U.E.
