I haven't a clue what this little thing is. It was in a chest of old silver that my father gave me awhile back (I am the only person under 80 in my family who will polish silver, so I get it all): The only thing written on the back is "sterling". Anyone know? @andiesenji?

That meal looks amazing! Every bit. But the green beans are speaking to me for some reason. Time to put the big Club aluminum on the stove and get some side meat out of the freezer, I guess!

The idea of eating cooked lettuce makes me just slightly less sick than the thought of e coli. 😏

Yes! I am so thrilled to finally find someone who shares my truffle aversion. If someone at the table orders something with truffles, it ruins my meal.

Madly in love with non-stick foil.

Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2017 – )

A late item for our church bake sale. Someone wanted a Gingerbread cake with Cranberry filling for Thanksgiving. Unfrosted: With the Cream cheese/orange zest frosting: -
Better toss that lettuce, sweetie!

I love a crust with suet. My stepdad was British and when he could find it (easier now, but very hard to find in our area in the 1970's), he would make suet pastry. He would sometimes make steak and kidney pud sans kidney just for me (my 9 year old self was NOT eating kidneys).

Last night was something super trashy that I've made since we were broke newlyweds - tamale pie: Just canned tamales, shredded Cheddar and Hormel chili with beans. I grew up eating canned tamales and saltines, but I don't believe Mr. Kim had ever seen tamales before. So, when I set a bowl of them down in front of him at the table one night, I blew his mind. I came up with this combination that he was more comfortable with and it is still a favorite with us. Served with cornbread: chips and bean/queso dip: and sliced Campari tomatoes: Tonight was just hot dogs, chips and fixed up Bush's baked beans: and The Salad:

Welcome, Diana! Looking forward to your input!

So, one benefit of my mother's apartment lease not running out until February (she's been living with us since May) is a big, empty refrigerator. Our turkey breasts, sour cream cheddar potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, and sweet potatoes for Jessica's gnocchi are all thawing right now. Nice to have them out of my way. (The other benefit was that it gave Jessica a place to live while they were rehabbing her flooded apartment).

I am actually planning on selling mine after the holidays. I have no room in my kitchen for them, so they live in the attic. And even when I kept them in the living room closet, I hardly ever used them. They are too heavy for me to use comfortably and I tended to burn stuff up in them. I actually posted about it here. So, for me, NO they are just not worth it. But I know that some folks swear by them.

I usually give an assortment of my Christmas goodies. This year, I'll do that, but I'm also going to repeat the Holiday Bread that I did last year: It was so good and well received and EASY (bread machine).

Not ME! I wasn't the one with the old lime! Though, sometimes they get to the bottom of the fruit bowls and turn into dried limes. Those get chiseled open and put into the air freshener pot with some cinnamon and cloves.

I throw away mushrooms as soon as I notice them. 😁 Seriously, I have always been a bad one to waste food. I don't care for leftovers and am really bad at re-purposing them. Luckily, Mr. Kim was raised right and determinedly plows through all the leftovers that are in the fridge. He packs his own lunch and has been known to munch on a snack consisting of slaw, green beans and raw cauliflower (his poor co-workers). I have gotten better at cooking less food, though. I was famous for cooking for a crowd when it was only the 3 of us. It finally occurs to me to cut a recipe in half.

Now those are some onion rings. I detest the puffy heavily coated battered ones - the onion just seems to steam inside. Those look perfect!

I'm thinking that the steam bake option on the CSO is probably my best option. These hams are small enough to fit.

NO! I wouldn't microwave it at all. What I meant was that some of our guests might slip into the kitchen and microwave a slice for themselves.
-
That was kind of my thought, too. However, some folks might sneak into the kitchen and heat it a bit in the microwave. I think in that case, a glaze might be tasty.
-
Thanks so much, ladies! I'll do this then.

I am planning on serving this ham for our Christmas Eve open house. My plan is sliced thin, room temperature with rolls. I should know this already, but do I really need to cook this, if it is going to be served room temperature? I know that it is safe to not heat it, but is there some flavor component that I'd be missing if I didn't?

I see it. It's the presentation, isn't it?
