    Waffles!

Just basic waffles - with the batter made in a blender. I did add some pearl sugar to the batter, though - that was good:

So, dental work went well. But it took 2 hours, so I was ready for my Reese's doughnuts. When I got home with them, Mr. Kim had gone for a haircut. I got 2 doughnuts (one each) for us to share and two for Jessica, so I had to wait for him. 😑 The doughnuts: The one the left is filled with chocolate peanut butter cream and iced in peanut butter icing: The one on the right is chocolate glazed filled with peanut butter cream: Both VERY sweet, but we liked them - good peanut butter flavor. Could not possibly eat more than one at a time.

    Pickles

Jessica started some pickles yesterday from some cucumbers we got at the Farmer's market: Dill, garlic, and some spices. That isn't discoloration at the bottom, she used Hawaiian sea salt and it is pink.

    Burger King

Of course, this is true in every kitchen, right? If I were a dedicated vegetarian or had food allergies, I would check for this everywhere. I remember @liamsaunt mentioning that her nephew can't order french fries in places that fry their fish (or maybe just shellfish) in the same fryers as the potatoes.

Ah! Oh, yes. He loves me. Hope yours went well.

No - AFTER!!! I'm getting a permanent crown and a temporary crown. Luckily, they are both on the same side, So I can chew my doughnuts on my left side.😁
  7. Is the chicken in the biscuits fried? 'Cause I'd probably like that.
  8. Betcha it wasn't as bad as my Burger King taco. 😂

    Waffles!

Mr. Kim requested waffles this afternoon, so the batter is waiting in the fridge for him to get home from a quick trip to his office on his week off!

    Lunch 2019

Brunch after church. I had the shrimp shumai and char sui bao: Mr. Kim had the spicy Sichuan beef pot: Mine was delicious and Mr. Kim loved his – too hot for me to taste.

    Dinner 2019

Between @gfweb's flat iron steak and strip steak and @robirdstx's flank steak, I find myself in need of a hunk o’ beef. When I was four years old, my uncle showed me that it said “English peas” on the can of peas and told me that the Beatles ate them. I would check the can to make sure they were “English” and, if so, I would choke them down. I still hate peas. @JoNorvelleWalker – I adore corn and lima beans. I can manage to eat canned corn if I have to, but canned limas are horrible. They are bitter and funky and taste like canned peas to me. Saw an interesting taco method on America’s Test Kitchen the other night. You toss the ground beef with baking soda mixed with a little water (this is supposed to keep the meat juicy). Then sauté onions, add chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, and salt: Add tomato paste and the meat: This is my favorite utensil to use when cooking ground meat. And, really, the only wooden utensil I find useful at all. I almost always prefer a silicone one. Wooden spoons just seem to scrape one little area – I find them pointless. But the wide flat edge of this one is perfect for scraping the bottom of the pan and breaking up the meat. Done: Then you dump some shredded cheese in and stir it until it melts (this make things more cohesive): You brush the corn tortillas with oil and bake them to soften, then put 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture in and fold over: They are then fried in a little oil on both sides: Done: Go-withs: Refried black beans: Just canned – fixed up with cumin and salsa. And “Mexican Style” Rice A Roni: In this case the Roni is orzo. We liked these a lot. Nice and crisp, but not fall-apart crunchy. @CantCookStillTry - you might want to give these a try (PM me if you want the recipe - I haven't posted it on my website yet). You can make them up to the point of frying them and refrigerate overnight.

    Breakfast 2019

@shain – that muesli bowl is one of the most refreshing, lovely, and tempting things I’ve ever seen! A recent breakfast: English muffin – one buttered, the other with my beloved Tiptree Little Scarlet strawberry preserves. And a bowl of some gorgeous peaches that my in-laws brought us.

    Dinner 2019

@HungryChris – we love bleu cheese slaw and haven’t had it in forever – thanks for the reminder. Perfect with wings! @CantCookStillTry – I think your pastitsio casserole looks and sounds wonderful and much easier than the regular recipe. I love the pasta you used, too. If anyone wants to try a good recipe of the more complicated version, I use the James Beard classic. @Shelby – you are very brave putting that fish right on the grill. I avoid grilling fish because I’m sure it would stick. We found one of those clampy fish grilling things on sale for $6 at Kroger yesterday, so I’m on the lookout for some fish to grill now. What did you put on the fish before cooking? Mr. Kim often looks over my shoulder while I’m perusing eG, but I have to say that @liamsaunt's scallops and @Ann_T's bruschetta had him especially mesmerized! @Norm Matthews – Happy Birthday to Charlie! That was some celebration! Mr. Kim had a poker night on Thursday, so I made an old favorite – Stouffer’s cream chipped beef on toast: Some gorgeous peaches that my in-laws brought us: Friday night’s dinner was a repeat of goat cheese and naan: Corn and tomatoes: And a frozen pizza that was surprisingly good: It was 5 cheese (asiago, provolone, buffalo mozzarella, edam, and Cheddar) and marmalade (no red sauce) . From Kroger’s Private Selection house brand. It was really good and something we’d buy again.

    IP or Sous Vide???

Thanks so much everyone! From the pork loins that I've cooked so far, I think we prefer a higher temperature, so I'll probably go 135F. I really like @kayb's BBQ idea! When I was a kid, my mom used to do "BBQ" pork chops a lot and I haven't had them for years. Of course, hers were about 1/2-inch thick and cooked to death as pork usually was in the 60's. 😉

    IP or Sous Vide???

I have another IP or SV question and hope folks see this. At Kroger today, I found two packages of 1 1/2-inch thick, very large, bone-in, center cut pork loin chops at $3.37/lb. I'd love some advice about them. I have 4 chops (I'll only cook 2 at a time, most likely). I'm thinking no matter what I end up doing, I'll brine them. Help, please! Ta!
  19. Love the look of that. I grew up on "foldovers" served on a paper towel - plate and napkin all in one. I knew I'd communicated the beauty of a foldover when I caught Mr. Kim making a cheese and pickle one.

So glad that you enjoyed it! It really is our official summer dish!
  21. Thank you so much! This looks wonderful - I can't wait to make it!
  22. Any kind of coconut sweet is a favorite around our house! I'd love to have the recipe, if you care to share it.
  23. The only thing that Butterfingers needs to do to improve the bar is use real chocolate to enrobe it. 5th Avenue bars are enrobed in real chocolate, therefore they are my choice when I can find them.

    Dinner 2019

Some recent dinners – Went to our local deli for Sunday brunch and I had a shrimp salad sandwich. Jessica brought croissants from her work commissary. Leftovers: Another meal out was at a favorite BBQ place. Mr. Kim had spare ribs: Very good, as usual. None of that fall of the bone nonsense. I had a brisket sandwich with good fries and blah beans and slaw: Last night I tossed a bunch of stuff from the farmer’s market + a salad on the table: From upper left: potato bread, goat cheese – hot pepper, horseradish, and cucumber & dill – pesto and toasted naan. A sad and pitiful meal alone was peanut butter on toast and ramen. Not good ramen – college dorm ramen. But I like college dorm ramen, so that’s ok. A funny thing, though – my favorite variety is the one that they’ve called “Oriental” forever. I’m guessing someone finally told Nissin that maybe “Oriental” isn’t the most PC name. So they changed it to “Soy Sauce Flavor”. Right underneath that is says, “Same Oriental Flavor”. Sigh. Tonight is supposed to be more farmer's market stuff. But, Mr. Kim's parents called and to get out of going to Applebee's with them, he lied and said we'd already eaten. No good deed... They said they would come by after they eat to drop off some peaches. So God knows what time we'll be eating tonight. 😏
